YHA free breaks for families YHA is offering a free two-night stay with meals in our Youth Hostels in England and Wales to families struggling with financial hardship, disability, long-term illness, bereavement, homelessness or other challenging circumstances, to enable them to have some quality family time. YHA recognises the benefits of time away from the normal home environment in strengthening relationships and believes that family time is the cornerstone of children s happiness and wellbeing. We've found that families struggling with bereavement, homelessness or long-term disability and illness often struggle with financial hardship that limit their ability to take a break, at a time when they need it most to make happy memories, build bonds, and heal emotional scars. Up to two adults and their children can apply to the Family Breaks programme for a short break. The Family Breaks fund enables more of the UK s 2.17 million families in the UK who are unable to afford a break at any time of the year, to benefit from much needed time away from normal life and give them the opportunity to leave behind the stresses of everyday life and bond as a family. All the Youth Hostels available within the programme are located within city, rural and coastal areas that are easily accessible by public transport. Families will be provided with a private room and meals throughout their stay. Our Breaks Programme aims to reach young people and families with the most challenging lives and provide them with life changing experiences. Applications for our Family Breaks Programme are now closed. They will re-open again in May 2018. Drumbeat School & ASD Service 4

Trip to Millwall football stadium aka The Den on 29 th January Students from both Drumbeat campuses have benefitted from our schools partnership with Millwall football club and were invited to take a tour around the stadium. Students got to go into the stadium and get up close to the pitch and sit in the dug outs. They also got to check out the player changing rooms, press room and trophy room with our guide Ben explaining about the history of the club. Students also had the opportunity to play against each other on the indoor community pitch which they loved! Ben from Millwall has very kindly given students who attended free tickets for them and a parent/carer to watch the match against Sunderland on Saturday 3 rd March. If you are interested in attending please let Richard (Brockley) or Vinenzo (Downham) know before the end of half term. Letters to go out with more details soon. Drumbeat School & ASD Service 9
Football Match against Spa School at Millwall Drumbeat students played their first competitive match against Spa School at the Millwall community pitch on Friday before half term. It was a very close match and both teams were very evenly matched. Drumbeat were winning at half time but Spa School came out in the second half with renewed purpose and ended up winning the match 7-5. The players really enjoyed the experience and we are planning a rematch in the coming weeks. A big thank you to Mark, Mathieu and Michael for supporting the students so well on the day. Looking forward to the next match. Drumbeat School & ASD Service 10
