Exhibition November 23-December 2, 2017 Opening reception November 22, 18:00-21:00 Part of the Amsterdam Art Weekend Kévin Bray: Impossible Exhibition #3, 2017 Kévin Bray

ISOLA 3OOO is the first exhibition of ISO, proposed by the founder and curator Florence Parot. The work of ten artists living and working in the giant warehouse for the past six months comes together in an event that goes beyond the format of a group show. By closely intertwining their practices, they create a hallucinatory space that activates all senses. A sort of diorama which oscillates between the digital and material realms, disorienting visitors by immersing them in macro scenery formed by micro narratives. All the installations are sitespecific-made and produced in situ for ISOLA 3OOO. Joséphine Péguillan triggers our sense of smell. At first sight what could be a toilet and makes the potential user feel uncomfortable, becomes the place for healing. Meeus van Dis exaggerates the principles of repetitive left and right brain stimulation; referring to the means used when subjected to EMDR. This animated form of exposure therapy has remarkably relieved people of depression, disorders, phobias and anxieties. Kévin Bray, Lou Buche and Messgewand are exploring the borders and the porosity of their practices. How an organic production process can be transplanted on others and how they can coexist and/or dialogue with each other? How does an additional digital layer can augment an analogue practice, such as painting and sculpture? Virginie Gauthier re-enacts an old legend from a troglodyte village located in the middle of France. A place known for its very peculiar well which the specificity reflects in its abnormal power of echoing external sound. sulsosal maps repeating elements of the global development narrative as they move between the Global South and the Industrial North. The result is an immersive video installation that shows a fragmented database of footage, synchronized and reconstructed as an ever-expanding timeline. The monumental road of Maarten Nico symbolises the idea that anyone is capable of choosing their own way in contrast with the billboards, that give you the idea that you are in control of your own life while they are actually projecting on you what you should like or live up to. Joséphine Péguillan (France, 1989) Joséphine Péguillan is a French artist based in Amsterdam. She graduated from the Sandberg Instituut in 2016. In Péguillan practice we can see a significant interest for interaction and she could be easily connected with the relational aesthetics artists, playing not only with the viewer but also with all the other characteristics of the exhibition, using also the space of the history of it. In her latest projects she has worked with fashion, creating a steambath in a container or extending the idea of a bar through different projects. She has exhibited her work and developed projects in different countries such as Italy, The Netherlands or France. The installation that Joséphine is preparing for ISOLA 3000 triggers our sense of smell. At first sight what could be a toilet and makes the potential user feel uncomfortable, becomes the place for healing.

Meeus van Dis (The Netherlands, 1978) Meeus van Dis is a Dutch artist based in Amsterdam. He graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in 2003. The easiest description to describe van Dis s work would be to call him an light artist, but in his installations he is interested in more than this. In his projects he investigates the boundaries that light and electricity can offer in the shape of installations that can function in not only the classic gallery space, but also in clubs or the open space. Van Dis has exhibited his work all over around The Netherlands and collaborated with major installations at Palais de Tokyo, New Museum or Stedelijk Amsterdam. The audio-visual installation presented by Meeus at ISOLA 3000 exaggerates the principles of repetitive left and right brain stimulation; referring to the means used when subjected to EMDR. This animated form of exposure therapy has remarkably relieved people of depression, disorders, phobias and anxieties.

Kévin Bray (France, 1989) Kevín Bray is a French artist based in Amsterdam. He will start as a resident at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in 2018 and he also teaches at the Royal Academy of Art (KABK) in The Hague. He graduated from the Sandberg Instituut in Amsterdam in 2013. With a background in design Bray expands himself in the different worlds of art or music, where he often collaborates with the creation of videoclips or graphics for the artists. In his approach he designs a stage to make situations appear. A process of formalizing new forms of communication by constantly decoding and rephrasing meaningful matter from one medium to another. His work often takes the shape of videos, prints or digital images. Bray has exhibited his work in The Netherlands, France or Argentina. Among his clients we can find the Stedelijk Museum s Hertogenbosch, Roosje Klap or the One Minutes. For ISOLA 3000 Bray is working in collaboration with Lou Buche and Messgewand exploring the borders and the limits of their practices. Using the mapping technique Kévin will fill and re interpret his collaborators practices, questioning the cycle of production but also how different mediums can live and interact with each other on a single piece.

Lou Buche (France, 1991) Lou Buche is a French graphic designer based between New York and Berlin. He graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam in 2015. He is currently studying at the Sandberg Instituut. In his work he plays with the limits of graphic design and the digital often entering the real world through performances where he pee s different names on the street or organizing parties under the pseudonym Ultratatane, where he is interested in the connection between visual culture and music. Buche has worked and collaborated with a wide range of clients, from Nike or FOAM to the CIG Chaumont or Het nieuw Instituut. The work that Buche is preparing for ISOLA 3000 is a collaboration with Kévin Bray and Messgewand. Still with a painting starting point, Lou will collaborate filling Messgewand spaces and leaving possibilities to Bray to fill his work through mapping techniques, that at the same time will create lights and shadow to be filled again by Lou, working on the endless possibilities that technology and the world offers us today.

Messgewand (Alexis Bondoux + Romain Coppin) (France, 1991 + 1991) Messgewand is the collaboration between Romain Coppin and Alexis Bondoux, two Amsterdam based French designers. They meet while studying at the Applied Arts School of Burgundy in France and they have been working together since 2012. They are interested in the way object design can influence the relationship we have to aesthetic appreciation. They use object design as a medium in order to answer to professional assignment as much as self-initiated projects with a critical approach toward modes of production and representation. Messgewand have exhibited their work in The Netherlands, France or Belgium. They have also collaborated with different initiatives such as Ultratatane or Krux Amsterdam. Messgewand work for ISOLA 3000 will be part of a larger collaboration with Kévin Bray and Lou Buche. With a big importance on the process of the making and the idea of collaboration, Messgewand will produce a series of semi functional furniture objects in the space that will be open to play with for Bray and Bouche. The making of this objects will create a series of marks and traces that will be afterwards used as a material for their collaborators, questioning then the balance and importance between the final product and the process.

Virginie Gauthier (France, 1991) Virginie Gauthier is a French graphic designer based in Amsterdam. She graduated from the Werkplaats Typografie in 2015. Gauthier main interests is in typography and printed matter and the possibilities that those two mediums offer to be as malleable as possible and, from the purity of shapes and materials, express the most with the less. Virginie has worked for people such as Yannick Bouillis or Frac Franche Comté. Virginie Gauthier re-enacts an old legend from a troglodyte village located in the middle of France. A place known for its very peculiar well which the specificity reflects in its abnormal power of echoing external sound.

sulsolsal (Hannes Bernard + Guido Giglio) (South Africa, 1985 +Brazil, 1981). SulSolSal is a label for the multidisciplinary research & design collaboration of architect Guido Giglio and designer Hannes Bernard based between Amsterdam, Cape Town & São Paulo. Hannes & Guido both graduated from the Sandberg Instituut Design master programme, and have been collaborating since 2012. In their projects they combine cultural, historic and economic research to create communal spaces, publications and food performances as a means of investigating the complex relationships between design, economy & society. Their practise falls somewhere between the overlap of critical design, urbanism, art installation and public food initiative Their work has been exhibited in different countries and contexts such as the Vitra Design Museum in Germany, the Beijing Design Week in China or the Toffie Pop Culture Festival in South Africa. sulsosal maps repeating elements of the global development narrative as they move between the Global South and the Industrial North. The result is an immersive video installation that shows a fragmented database of footage, synchronized and reconstructed as an ever-expanding timeline.

Maarten Nico (The Netherlands, 1990) Maarten Nico is a Dutch artist based in Amsterdam. He graduated from the Sandberg Instituut in 2016. In Nico s work we can find a sharp critique of today s society with a very accurate and almost cynical sense of humor. In his works we can discover a wide range of interests, going from philosophy to art history and pop culture. Nico s work has been exhibited in The Netherlands or Italy. He has had residencies in Milan and in Amsterdam. The monumental road of Maarten Nico symbolises the idea that anyone is capable of choosing their own way in contrast with the billboards, that give you the idea that you are in control of your own life while they are actually projecting on you what you should like or live up to.

iso Dajo Bodisco and Florence Parot Dajo Bodisco and Florence Parot, founders of ISO believe in bringing together different disciplines in a largely open warehouse. Florence Parot is a French art curator based in Amsterdam. She is the cofounder and the creative director of ISO.
