The ICG, though a new concept, has been firmly rooted and verdantly bloomed in our rich Indian culture with a laid emphasis on scientific temper and progressive outlook. Having taken off in 1995 with a faith of dreams and fire of will, the college now basks in the 1

golden hues of its unparallel distinction through perseverance of students and the grit of its teachers. Apart from regular UG and PG degrees, ICG offers a range of vocational courses. The courses in Jewellery designing are amongst those courses, which provide practical orientation to shape the career of the students according to their potential and talents. INTRODUCTION These add on Certificate, Diploma and Advance Diploma Courses are designed to equip the students with the techniques of Jewellery designing. The students shall acquire working knowledge of aesthetic and practical aspects of the field. The students of the course shall learn to illustrate shapes and forms of metals, faceted and cabochon stones and textures of jewellery surfaces. They will learn to create designs for men, women and children according to the popular trends. They will learn to design according to the peculiar tastes and demands of different markets. They shall be taught the technical and perspective drawings of various ornaments. After completion of the course, the students shall be eligible to work as a jewellery designer or as an entrepreneur in the jewellery industry. They will learn to use the computer as an aid to designing. They will learn about the latest trends and the famous names in Jewellery through Jewellery books, periodicals and the internet. CLASS SCHEDULE AND REGULARITY Irregularity hampers the learning process and understanding of the subject. Minimum 75 percent attendance is required to appear at the final examination. The classes shall be conducted in the morning hours (9.30 am to 11.00 am), as per time-table prescribed by the college. The students shall be sent for internship towards the end of the course. TEACHANG SCHEDULE Certificate 300 hrs + 150 hrs Practical training Diploma 300 hrs + 150 hrs Practical training Advance Diploma 300 hrs + 150 hrs Practical training Each Course will be of 300 hrs, including regular gemology classes and CAD classes, and one month internship in Certificate, Diploma and Advance Diploma courses. The proof of 2

successfully completing the Practical training/internship shall be submitted in the form of a certificate issued by the concerned authority of organization where the candidate undergoes practical training/internship. The candidate will be required to prepare a report on the work done by her during internship, which will be evaluated by a panel of examiners through Presentation and by concocting a Viva-Voce on the same. PEDAGOGICAL STRATEGIES Apart from class activities and assignments students shall be given opportunities to attend exhibitions and fashion shows, and interact with senior professionals through seminars, symposia and other pedagogical methods on the areas of topical interest from time to time. The students shall be visiting Jewellery factories and manufacturers during the session. The attendance to the field trips shall be compulsory. The students shall complete design projects given by people from the Jewellery industry. This will help them to gain a practical knowledge of designing. A factory visit will be scheduled after 50 % completion of the course. PRACTICALS AND ASSIGNMENTS The students shall learn techniques to illustrate and render jewellery designs. They shall learn to design jewellery that is easy to manufacture, attractive, and saleable. They shall learn to design jewellery using different shapes, colours, metals, motifs and stones. The students shall submit assignments on time. All assignments shall be evaluated regularly. Required number of submissions shall be given by the students for the final evaluation. EXAMINATIONS: Annual Scheme of Examination will be 1. The number of papers, time duration of practical exam and the minimum and maximum marks for each paper shall be shown in the syllabus. Each theory paper shall be of 3 hrs. Duration. 2. There shall be objective type, short answer and long answer questions in each theory paper. The candidates will be given choice in each section. 3

3. A candidate has to secure 40% in continuous assessment and annual examination in individually in all papers so as declare her pass. A candidate is awarded class/division as per criterion given below: 40% or above but below 48% Pass. 48% or above but below 60% Second Division 60% or above but below 75% First Division 75% or above First with Credit. 4. A candidate failing in one paper only shall be allowed to take the exam in that paper in the successive academic year only. In all other cases the failing candidate has to repeat the course again by seeking regular admission. 5. A candidate needs to clear all exams in order to be eligible for promotion to the next level of courses. A Candidate securing less than 40% marks in maximum of one paper shell be allowed to take the exam not later than successive academic year only. 6. Internal assessment will constitute 30% of the total marks of each practical and theory paper in the form of continuous assessment. The continuous assessment shall be on the basis of home assignment, submission, Internal tests and regularity in attendance. The final exams will carry 70 % of the total marks which shall be assessed through written papers and practical exams. 7. A candidate passing the certificate course shall be eligible to seek admission to the Diploma course. 8. A candidate passing the Diploma course shall be eligible to seek admission to the Advance Diploma course. 9. The Certificate/ Diploma/ Advance Diploma shall be awarded by the college. 10. The marks for internship / training shall be given on the basis of report, presentation and viva voce. CERTIFICATION: The students who complete all assignments, adhere to the prescribed norms and fulfill the minimum requirements in continuous assessment as well as in the final examination shall be awarded the Certificate/ Diploma / Advance Diploma by the College. 4
