FR PROTECTION: INDUSTRY INFORMATION Every day workers expose themselves to potentially hazardous environments that cause flash fires and arc flash, leading to common injuries such as burns, respiratory system damage, hearing damage and even fatalities. The demand for flame resistant clothing is growing rapidly as industries build an understanding of the hazardous nature of their working environments and their apparel protection requirements. The use of flame resistant clothing provides the necessary protection to reduce the risk of serious, or even fatal injuries. Hard Yakka PROTECT workwear is specifically designed to cater for the increasing demands of multiple industries including electrical, energy, oil, gas and mining. Electrical & Energy In the electrical and energy industries the most common risk is an arc flash event. Arc flash events typically occur around energised equipment such as power boards, power lines and general powered equipment. Arc flash events can cause serious and even fatal injuries. Flame resistant workwear in these industries is intended to self-extinguish flame that has ignited on the garment and provide protection against seconddegree burns. Heat stress management is also important for safety. Oil & Gas Oil and gas industry workers can be exposed to flash fires, arc flash events (if operating energised equipment) and extreme heat conditions. Wearing flame resistant clothing that self-extinguishes can give workers much needed time to escape a flash fire and dramatically reduce burn injuries. Heat stress management is also critical, with most upstream oil and gas activities concentrated in hot climates. Flame resistant clothing aims to provide both FR protection and breathability through fabric technology and garment design. Mining Miners can be exposed to both flash fires and arc flash events. Typical mine site workers at risk include boilermakers, drillers and electricians. Flame resistant workwear can protect workers against second and third degree burns and manage heat stress in hot/humid conditions. 16

PRODUCT TESTING & INDUSTRY STANDARDS Flame resistant garments are driven by standards and specifications that must pass intensive testing before they can be offered in any marketplace. A basic understanding of how flame resistance is defined and measured is very important. The following is a list of the industry standards to which ShieldTEC FR garments are compliant and certified. 70E National Fire Protection Association, National Electrical Code The USA's 70E guidelines require employees working on or near energised parts and equipment to wear situationally appropriate FR clothing that meets the requirements of test method ASTM F1506. ASTM F1506 provides the minimum performance specifications for protective clothing and outlines the required testing methods to measure the Arc Thermal Protection Value (ATPV). ENA NENS 09 National Guidelines for the Selection, Use & Maintenance of Personal Protective Equipment for Electrical Hazards Energy Networks Association is an Australian body who administers NENS 09 guidelines which set the minimum standards for the selection, use and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE) when used to protect employees against electrical hazards within the electricity supply industry. 2112 National Fire Protection Association Standard on Flame Resistant Garments for Protection of Industrial Personnel Against Flash Fire Originating in the USA, 2112 is an industry guide to flame resistant garments for protection of industrial personnel against flash fire. The standard provides minimum performance criteria and outlines 17 test methods including: flame resistance, char-length, thermal shrinkage resistance and heat resistance. ISO 11612:2015 Protective Clothing Clothing to Protect Against Heat and Flame ISO is an independent European based organization that develops international standards for participating member countries. ISO standard 11612:2015 provides the wearer with protection against transitory contact with heat and flame. The heat can be convection heat, thermal radiation, metal splash or a combination of these. Garments are given the following classifications based on specific parameters: (A1) Limited flame spread, surface ignition method (A2) Limited flame spread, edge ignition method (B) Convection heat (C) Thermal radiation (D) Molten aluminum splash (E) Molten iron splash (F) Contact heat AS/NZS 4602.1:2011 Australian and New Zealand High-Visibility Standards Standards for high-visibility clothing dictate workwear colour and design to ensure workers are seen in high risk situations. All Hard Yakka PROTECT Hi-Visibility Workwear complies with AS/NZS 4602.1:2011 for high-visibility safety garments. AS/NZS 4399:1996 Sun Protective Clothing All ShieldTEC FR garments are rated UPF 50+ Excellent Protection. WARNING: ShieldTEC garments are not intended for fire entry, structural or wildlands fire fighting activities and provide no personal protection from chemical exposure. They should be removed at once if contaminated with flammable liquid or material. Both upper and lower body must be covered by a combination of FR shirt and FR pants, worn with the shirt tucked into the pants. All fasteners must be closed at all times during use. Sleeves and pants are not to be worn rolled up. 17

IMPORTANT TERMINOLOGY Arc Flash A type of electrical explosion. An arc flash is not an electric shock it occurs when uncontrolled amounts of electric current travel through air between two conductors. Arc Thermal Performance Value (ATPV) This value is presented in calories per square centimetre (cal/cm 2 ) and represents the maximum capability for arc flash protection of a particular garment. The incident energy on a fabric or material that results in a 50% probability that sufficient heat transfer through the tested specimen is predicted to cause the onset of a second degree skin burn injury. Cotton Drill Workwear Clothing designed to do everyday work. There is a misconception that untreated 100% cotton fabric is somehow flame resistant. This is simply not true. While heavyweight, untreated 100% cotton fabrics may be more difficult to ignite they can, and will, ignite and continue to burn if exposed to an ignition source. Fire Retardant Workwear Structural garments targeted to firefighting industries that are intended to prevent ignition. Flame Resistant Workwear Flame resistant fabrics and garments are intended to resist ignition, prevent the spread of flames and to self-extinguish almost immediately upon removal of the ignition source. Flame resistant workwear is abbreviated in this catalogue as 'FR'. Flash Fire A rapidly moving flame front which can be a combustion explosion. Inherent FR Fabric Inherently flame resistant fibres are defined as having flame resistance as an essential characteristic of the fibre. It is a fabric that does not support combustion and has innate flame resistant properties that are permanent and inseparable; the flame resistant qualities will never wash out. Treated FR Fabric Fibres that are not normally considered flame resistant which have been chemically treated to provide FR protection. 18
