The Goodwood Revival Meeting in West Sussex in the south of England is one of the most exclusive classic car events of the world. It is not only a motor show but also an extravagant fashion show with clothes and costumes of the 1920s to 1970s. When the Revival took place for the first time in 1988, people came in suit and evening gown, nowadays most of the visitors arrive in extravagant 1950s or 1960s clothing. That means lots of tweed, frill and fancy dresses among the women. The number of participants raised from 80.000 visitors in the first year to 148.000 in the year of 2013, in which the part of people wearing elegant costumes is grown from 30 percent to 90 percent. The glamour of former times will be cultivated at this festival with classic cars, racing cars and airplanes as well as a in an old fashioned-style elegant and exclusive dressed up audience. Experience it yourself! We show you, which outfit you need and how you can style yourself in a proper way. Page 2
If you visit the Goodwood Revival, you will have a unique opportunity, to dress up in retro-style and to reach real deep into the bag of styling tricks. First of all, you need to decide from which decade your outfit should be: no matter if 1940s, 1950s or 1960s, every decade offers fascinating costumes. Maybe a Rockabilly Girl with petticoat and hairband or a movie star from the black-and-white era? Page 3
Try out or dress up like one of the significant fashion icons of this time for example Marlene Dietrich, Marylin Monroe, Audrey Hepburn or Grace Kelly. Page 4
1940 The forthies were affected by simple patterns, slim shapes, knee-lengt skirts and muted colours. First in 1947, when Christian Dior with his emphatic feminine women fashion, the New Look, won the world of fashion over, he inspired designers to create extravagant ideas. The New Look was marked by flared skirts, bodyhugging tops with round shoulders and the line of skin-tight skirts and costumes. Page 5
1950 In the fifties there is nothing like petticoats, a halterneck top and a scarf. A silk scarf completes your perfect 1950s-outfit - it should be crossed under the chin and tied in the neck. This is the appropriate look for driving and posing in your convertible classic car. Page 6
1960 For the sixties choose the Mary Quant style - this means, the short miniskirt serves as real eye-catcher. Dresses with geometrical patterns and colour blocks are also suitable for the 1960s-look. Dresses with flower print in various colours are also highlights and don t forget a sun hat. Page 7
Try the vintage-look, root through your mother s or grandmother s wardrobe, there you can for sure find some masterpieces or you copy a fashion icon s style from the 1950s/1960s. It is the little things, which make the difference to a perfect outfit- the right bag, long gloves, a fancy hat or a classy barrette. And keep in mind - the Goodwood Revival is an open-air event, so you should wear comfortable shoes, as well as have something warm and waterproofed within reach. In case of rain and wind you still feel comfortable and look suitable. Page 8
