Hood Museum of Art, Dartmouth College Deaccession of Clothing and Accessories from the Costume Collection Approved by the Hood Museum of Art Acquisitions Committee May 13, 2013 The following textiles have been deaccessioned and transferred to the Theater Department Costume Shop, Dartmouth College, unless otherwise noted. Evening Gown, originally c. 1900-1908 Off-white silk faille decorated with beige and grey appliqué, embroidery, and sequins Gift of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Morris Burrows; 180.15.23199 Reason: The ball gown was remade sometime after its original date. It lost its original shape and silhouette. Also, the fabric is very dirty around the lower edge of the skirt. Evening Dress, 1920-30 Black lace ; 177.8.22492 Reason: Because the design of the dress is rather ordinary, and there are better examples in the collection, it is likely that it will never be exhibited. Day Dress for a Large Lady, 1925-35 Blue and white crepe ; 177.8.22520 Reason: Crepe is in fair condition. Probably the dress would never be exhibited due to its large size.

Day Dress with Long Sleeves and Sash, 1924-32 Red silk ; 177.8.22521AB Reason: There are multiple stains on the skirt, and the neckline is torn in the center front. Day Dress, 1925 Black and red crepe-backed satin with rows of black soutash braid on the lower section of the skirt ; 178.18.22591 Reason: The hemline edge is stained when the hem was lengthened previously. Stains can never be removed. Underskirt, late 18 th century Grey-green silk Gift of Mrs. Charles S. Feeney, Class of 1943W; 983.64.29128 Reason: The silk is split, rotted, and in poor condition. Pair of White Kid High-Button Boots, 1860-80 Worn by Elizabeth Duncan Mungar Gift of Dr. and Mrs. Sven Gundersen; 981.162.29099 Reason: The leather is dirty and several buttons are missing.

Summer Dress with Leg of Mutton Sleeves, 1827-35 Off-white cotton Worn by Elizabeth Chester Gift of the Hanover Historical Society; Mr. and Mrs. Robert C. Bankart, Class of 1937 and Mr. and Mrs. H. Reginald Bankart, Class of 1935; 2001.19.34014 Reason: The large rip in the front of the skirt cannot be repaired without being obvious. Embroidered Overblouse, 1920-30 Brown crepe Gift of Mrs. Kilborne through Prof. Henry Williams; 40.48.16269 Reason: The blouse is stained. Party Dress, 1920-30 Cream-colored crushed velvet with a large velvet bow in the center front of the dress Gift of Florence Worden Dixon Leach; 174.28.21976 Reason: The bodice front and back have multiple stains. Evening Dress, 1920-30 Embroidered lace and net Gift of Florence Worden Dixon Leach; 174.28.21979 Reason: The dress is missing its original slip. The net is town and the fabric has yellowed.

Woman's Jacket, 1930 Yellow linen with beige linen collar and cuffs; decorated with beige soutash braid Gift George Weber Schoenhut; 45.4.16368 Reason: the collar is very dirty around the neck and on the jacket edges. Also there are several stains on the front of the jacket. Riding Outfit, 1920-40 White heavy linen jacket and jodhpurs Label: "Bonwit Teller" Gift of Professor Henry Williams; 40.48.16224 Reason: Although the jodhpurs are moderately clean the jacket is very soiled around the shawl collar and cuffs and has several stains. Evening Dress, 1920-40 Beige lace, sleeveless Gift of Professor Henry Williams; 40.48.16229 Reason: the dress is missing its original slip, and the lace is rotted and cannot be repaired easily. Dressing gown, 1923-24 Gold print rayon Gift of Professor Henry Williams; 55.82.17807 Reason: the dressing gown/robe is stained and will never be exhibited

Dressing Gown with Hanging Sleeves, 1920s Magenta velvet and silk Gift of Professor Henry Williams; 56.9.17592 Reason: the silk on the sleeves is split and rotted and cannot be repaired. Afternoon Dress, 1927-29 Royal blue patterned with royal blue chenille Gift of Professor Henry Williams; 157.28.18627 Reason: There are stains on the front neck area and on the back of the skirt. Because the dress is semi-sheer and is missing its original slip, the original color of the dress is unknown. Summer House Dress, 1935-45 White organdy Dotted Swiss Gift of Professor Henry Williams; 161.25.18907 Reason: There are large stains on the front of both the bodice and skirt.
