About the Survey (Administered on Feb 16-Mar 13, 2015 at Oxy) National survey Developed by the Higher Education Data Sharing Consortium (HEDS) 57 institutions participated this year (54 were small institutions like Oxy) Average response rate Oxy response rate: 31%, other institutions: 19% Anonymity of responses HEDS withheld student responses on the following from Oxy s raw data: citizenship, race, student residence, sexual orientation, whether incident was formally reported or not Limitations Response rates may not be random, so results may not be generalizable to the whole Oxy student body. Unwanted sexual contact or sexual assault refer to incidents at Oxy and/or Oxy-related events. 2

I. Findings for Oxy: A summary 8% reported they were sexually assaulted (51 out of the 634 respondents), 23 reported unsure. Demographic breakdowns: female respondents reported they were SA'd, male respondents 4% white females 11% reported they were SA d, non-white females 8% white males 5% reported they were SA d, non-white males 1% 5

Findings for Oxy: A summary Type: touching ( of reported sexual assaults), vaginal intercourse (43%), oral intercourse (33%) Where: 49% of SA s occurred in Oxy residential buildings, 18% in Oxy non-residential, 31% off-campus When: 44% of SA incidents occurred during the first year. Who: 9 reported their assailants to be another Oxy student, 78% of the survivors said it was someone they knew. SA s are mostly alcohol related ( of survivors reported assailants drinking alcohol, 75% of survivors reported their own drinking of alcohol) rather than physical force (33%) or drugs (33%). 6
