Everyone is really nice and you can always get help if you need it. I d definitely recommend the course. I do mobile barbering at the minute but I m currently in the process of opening my own barber shop. Aspiring Hairdressers are a cut above the rest Joanne Smith (Inset: Shannon Greer) Bolton College s annual Hair Showcase returned in an explosion of glitter and neon colours as talented learners took on the contrasting themes of Aurora, Best of British and History through the Ages. Shannon Greer, 19, is currently studying Hairdressing Level 3 and modelled her creation on the vibrant theme of Aurora. Shannon, who plans to work on a cruise ship next year, said: The catwalk preparation side of hairdressing is really interesting. I love creative stuff like this plus it s good for my portfolio. The Showcase provides the perfect opportunity for learners to add to their portfolios and start building a profile for themselves as professional hairdressers and barbers. Joanne Smith, 24, is one such hairdressing learner keen to establish herself in the industry and is in the process of opening up her own salon in Harwood attending College on her days off. I m studying Hairdressing because I want to be able to offer more to my customers. The Level 3 covers creative colouring and more technical cutting, and I ve done my Hair Extension training here as well so I ve got everything I need for my business! Apprentices showcase Cutting-Edge Designs A group of creative hairdressing apprentices helped Bolton College kick off National Apprenticeship Week 2016 by showcasing their extravagant skills on the catwalk. 25 hairdressing and barbering apprentices each gave their model a unique image around the themes of red carpet and avantgarde masquerade. Dipti Patel is currently completing a Level 3 Hairdressing Apprenticeship with Bolton College and working at The Messy Mare hair salon in Bolton. Dipti, who modelled her hair design on the avant-garde theme, said: I d definitely recommend an Apprenticeship. Employers want experience as well as qualifications. In addition to influential industry figures including Reps from Wella and Salon Services a number of local employers attended the glittering catwalk event to get a glimpse of the apprentices collective talents. Employers in attendance included Sarah s Hair, Objet d'art, Hair Shac, KW hairdressing, Perfect Cuts, Nicola Louise and Beverly Ann's. Nikki Lanaghan, owner of Objet d art, said: It s such a treat to witness young stylists producing such a high quality of work. It ll be exciting to see what they accomplish in the future!
