Hairdressing & Barbering Apprenticeship Course Guide The Quality Alternative for Hairdressing and Barbering Training
What is an Apprenticeship? What is an Apprenticeship? As employees, Apprentices earn a wage and work alongside experienced staff to gain job-specific skills. Off-the-job, on a day-release basis, Apprentices receive training at the Hair Training Academy to work towards nationally recognised qualifications. Do I get paid? All employed Apprentices aged 16-18 must receive a minimum wage of 3.30 per hour (1st Oct 2015). However, as skills develop, many employers tend to increase wages. Do I have to pay anything to become an Apprentice? No. While you are on an Apprenticeship, your employer pays you a salary and the Government cover the full cost of training for 16-18 year olds and contribute towards costs for those aged 19 or above. How long does it take? The length of an Apprenticeship varies depending on your prior skills levels but as a guide, the Level 2 takes a maximum of two years to complete and Level 3 takes 12 months to complete. Do I need a job? Yes, you need to be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week before you can start an Apprenticeship. We often have vacancies available at local salons which we can support you to apply for. I ve already got a job in a salon can I still do an Apprenticeship? Yes. If your employer agrees, you can become an Apprentice where you work now. What time of year can I start? Apprenticeships can start at any time of the year. How do I apply?
