The Michael Wilson Experience At Michael Wilson Diamond Jewellers we pride ourselves on customer relations and believe in building an ongoing relationship with our clients as we share in many momentous occasions, which all start with the wedding proposal. Purchasing a diamond is an important decision that should be enjoyed and take time and thought. Our diamond rings are handcrafted onsite, in the workshop that is just upstairs from the comfort of the gallery. We welcome our clients into this comfortable environment to peruse at their leisure and take their time before making the commitment. We have a huge range of diamond ring designs on display and believe that we have something for every taste, whether it be classic, contemporary or truly unique. Otherwise our very talented jewellers are more than happy to custom make a piece especially to suit its wearer. Eltham, Victoria has been a popular location for artists since the early 1900s. It was here, in the leafy surrounds of Eltham that Michael and Wendy Wilson decided to purpose build the workshop, gallery and residence. They commissioned local architect Rodger Dalling to design the building. The result is a welcoming, light filled interior. The Michael Wilson Diamond Jewellers Eltham Gallery was officially opened on November 8th 1985 by well-known sculptor and jeweller Matcham Skipper (1921-2011). Matcham was a close friend and mentor of Michaels, and was a permanent artist in residence at the famous Montsalvat artist colony in Eltham. At the entrance to the Yarra Valley and Nillumbik Shire with the famous Montsalvat around the corner, and the first vineyard a 5 minute drive, the gallery is situated in a renowned wedding destination area. The Gallery is about a thirty minute drive from Melbourne CBD along the Eastern Freeway and has onsite parking. Settle into the relaxed and friendly environment in our comfy leather chairs with a nice cup of coffee as you browse our stunning diamond selection. Michael and Wendy Wilson opened their first Goldsmiths and Jewellery workshop in Little Latrobe Street, Melbourne in 1974. Winning the Gown of the Year Design Award that year assisted Michael in making the transition from school teaching to setting up his own professional creative jewellers. Michael is a self-taught jeweller, and in the early days of his career spent a lot of time experimenting with gold and silver-smithing techniques whilst teaching night classes. Over the years Michael has developed a wide range of acclaimed designs and collections that have become particularly popular amongst our many loyal, local residents. Aaron Wilson, Michael and Wendy s son is now the owner of the company. He has succeeded Michael in the day-to-day management and administration of the company to allow Michael the freedom to use his creative energies in the design of new work. Aaron is a qualified diamond grader; he selects and purchases all the diamonds required for the production of our creative and distinctive handmade diamond rings and jewellery. He carries on the tradition of providing superior quality jewellery design at the most competitive prices, assuring all clients that a feature of buying jewellery from our gallery is our commitment to personal attention and first class service.

A Girls Best Friend Your guide to diamond buying Michael Wilson Diamond Jewellers specialises in engagement rings and fine diamond jewellery. A purchase of a diamond engagement ring is one of the most significant events in every couple s life, it s the traditional symbol of love and future commitment. Most couples seek to find the right diamond and find a design that will express in a creative and individual way their commitment to each other. It is a journey worth taking with a passionate diamond expert and jeweller. Buying a diamond ring can be a daunting experience, especially not knowing much about the details of diamonds with not a lot of time to learn a lot about it. To break it down, there are two main decisions to make. One is the design and the other is the diamond. The first and easiest step is working out what style you like, then working out your budget. There are very few designs that can t flex with your budget. Once you have a feel for what design you like you can consider your budget and then the diamond options to fit. It is important to have a bright, quality diamond without getting too caught up in the details. Although it is wise to research what it is you are looking for, remember that it is impossible to become an expert after one afternoon of research on the internet. Diamond is the hardest of all natural substances and along with this, it has a high refractive index which means when light enters the stone it is broken up into all the colours of the spectrum. This brilliant fire is the most outstanding feature of the diamond. All white diamonds are evaluated by considering the four following properties of each diamond, the Four Cs. Firstly the Cut affects its brightness and sparkle, Colour is how white the diamond appears, Clarity is how clear it is of imperfections and Carat is the weight of the stone. The most important property to a diamond is the Cut. The cut does not refer to the shape of the diamond, ie. whether it s square or round, but how well it reflects the light and how much it sparkles. If not cut skilfully in the correct proportions a diamond will not reveal its full beauty. Colour is also important, the whiter the better. Anything in a white category, which is H and above, is absolutely fine. In recent years however, coloured diamonds have become more popular with some of the very rare colours being green, pink, blue and canary yellow. The Australian diamond mines are famous for producing a wonderful range of coloured stones in particular pink, along with colours from a delicate champagne to a rich cognac. These coloured diamonds are now much more in demand. Coloured diamonds are graded differently to white diamonds and are instead rated on a scale of how strong their colour is. Clarity is how clear a diamond is and gets talked about a lot but it s actually the least-important factor as long as you can t see any inclusions (which are tiny carbon deposits in the stone). Flawless, VVS1 and VVS2, (Very Very Slightly Included) VS and even SI1 (Slightly Included) all look the same to the naked eye. When you purchase an article of diamond jewellery designed and made in our workshop you are assured that the highest standards of materials and craftsmanship are employed in its making. To support this statement each article is stamped with the Designers Makers Mark and the Metal Purity Mark. You will also be issued with a valuation and independent laboratory certificate. For your peace of mind you can be assured all Michael Wilson diamonds are compliant with the Kimberley Process and guaranteed conflict free. Always remember the most important aspect of your diamond is how it looks to your eye or how it will appear in your ring. You don t need to overthink it or analyse it. People need to trust their judgement, and what they see, a lot more than they probably give themselves credit for. The 4cs and laboratory certificates should be used as a guide, unless the diamond you are considering looks bright and lively then information written about it does not mean much. Your diamond s value is always derived as a result of all the above qualities with the cut being of paramount importance. Aaron Wilson specialises in choosing diamonds that not only look good on paper but more importantly look bright to the eye. During that special moment, if the diamond looks good, a lot of the details of the diamond end up being reasonably irrelevant. Whether it s VS1 or VS2 or E or F colour, or whether it s one carat or 1.1 carat, all of that completely disappears in that moment; it means nothing. All that matters is that the recipient has a ring that they love and that looks good. It s not to say you shouldn t put effort into searching for the right ring and diamond, but keep it in perspective. You don t want to get too caught up in the details. Remember what the ring is for and why you re getting it.
