The Summit School OUR DRESS CODE The Summit School dress code has been designed collectively by Summit faculty. We realize how difficult it can be for parents to help their children adhere to a dress code when there are many choices, and the shades of allowed colors are often interpreted differently. The goal of our Summit School dress code is to allow students to focus on schoolwork. PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING CHANGES IN EFFECT FOR THE 2015-16 SCHOOL YEAR: A NEW simplified dress code is in effect and uniform colors will be limited to Navy tops and Khaki bottoms (for pants, skirts, shorts). No sweatpants, no exceptions (not permitted on gym days or dress down days) No footless leggings, no exceptions. No layered look (i.e., no long-sleeved shirts under short-sleeved shirts). ONLY SUMMIT LOGOWEAR (NO OTHER SWEATSHIRTS OR FLEECE WEAR) IS PERMITTED INDOORS AND BETWEEN BUILDINGS (except on days when cold weather necessitates an outdoor winter coat (a coat for outdoor warmth, not a nonlogowear fashion coat or jacket, or sweatshirt/sweat jacket, etc.). Students who come to school with indoor jackets, sweatshirts, fleece wear or pullover sweaters that are non- Summit logowear (solid cardigans in navy and white are permitted) will be asked to substitute the personal item of clothing for logo-wear from the Summit used clothing boutique to wear until the end of the day. The article of clothing brought from home will remain in the office until the end of the day until a parent picks it up. Clothing that remains at school unclaimed may be donated to charitable organization. House T-Shirts only permitted on designated House days. ADDITIONALLY, THE SUMMIT SCHOOL DRESS CODE POLICY DOES NOT PERMIT: PIERCED BODY PARTS, with the exception of traditional pierced ears for girls Unnatural hair color (that is, no purple, pink yellow, green, blue, etc., even to show sportsmanship). Excessive quantities of jewelry: chains, bracelets, rings, earrings. If you have any questions about the dress code, please do not hesitate to call Dr. McCarthy who will be happy to discuss the philosophy underlying our school dress code in the manner described below. LABELING CLOTHING: Please label all clothing with the student's first and last name indelible ink so that they may be returned to the clothing s owner in the event they are left at school.

helping us to maintain a uniform dress code. Also, several girls have worn Uggs boots to school. Student Dress Code continued: If students come to school out of dress code: When a student s attire does not coincide with the Summit dress code, they will be asked to check in with the school office. For the first couple of dress code infractions, the parent will be called and emailed by the school office to advise them of the infraction, and the student can select a clothing item from our gently used dress code selection to wear for the day. The clothing must be washed and returned to school the next day or purchased at Summit s resale price (the office keeps a price listing for used Summit wear). The student will bring home a copy of the dress code policy and a copy will be emailed to you. When students have more than two dress code infractions, parents will be called by the school office to bring appropriate attire to school. We know this is an
inconvenience, and we apologize in advance, but we are soliciting parents help with adhering to our dress code. Clothing that remains at school unclaimed for an inordinate length of time may be subject to charitable donation. House colors: Mt. Olympus Red Mt. Everest Royal blue Mt. McKinleyForest Green Mt.
