assemblée THE ART CENTRE S 25TH ANNIVERSARY OPENING TUESDAY 16 march, 6pm exhibition from 17 march to 20 may 2018 With : Eva Barto, Eric Baudelaire, Berdaguer & Péjus, Katinka Bock, Mathieu Copeland, Delphine Coindet, Colouring Tour, Marie Cool Fabio Balducci, Edith Dekyndt, Yona Friedman, Dominique Gilliot, Christian Hidaka, Violaine Lochu, Chloé Maillet & Louise Hervé, Etienne Pressager, Julien Prévieux, Rometti Costales, Clément Rodzielski, Eva Taulois, Capucine Vandebrouck and films by : Eric Baudelaire, Joëlle de la Casinière, Philippe Decrauzat, Eitan Efrat & Sirah Foighel Brutmann, Anne-Charlotte Finel, Elise Florenty & Marcel Türkowsky, Yona Friedman, Louise Hervé & Chloé Maillet, Susan Hiller, Olive Martin & Patrick Bernier, Falke Pisano, Julien Prévieux, Jimmy Robert and films about : Daniel Buren, Tadashi Kawamata ( a.p.r.e.s Production) This exhibition charts a path through 25 years of history at the Synagogue de Delme, an art centre that is unusual, no less for its geographic location than for its history, a precious and rare art venue for artists from around the world, whom it has never stopped welcoming. Assemblée brings together around twenty of the artists who have exhibited at Delme, as well as artists who have done Lidre-Basse residencies, which have been an integral part of the art centre s missions since 2002. The exhibition embraces the whole range of practices, gestures and stories, echoing the artistic and intellectual lifeblood that has kept the Synagogue de Delme s heart beating for a quarter of a century. The exhibition s title, Assemblée, refers to what the nature of the Synagogue de Delme has been since the beginning: a gathering place, an agora, a site of shared words and discussions, a polyphonic place where singularities meet. Assemblée also expresses the institution s goodwill towards its visitors and artists, for whom the art centre remains a home of thought, action and freedom. The exhibition presents existing works as well as new productions, like the custom sound installation that Violaine Lochu designed for the site s acoustics, filling the space with the chanting of powerful, mystical female voices. And Capucine Vandebrouck is presenting two almost invisible installations that secretly disrupt the look of the place. Voices, spirits, altered consciousness, byways, sinuous lines the exhibition reflects other ways of looking and perceiving. Dominique Gilliot s work is hidden in the exhibition, Chloé Maillet and Louise Hervé s serial novel is inserted in the local newspaper, while Eva Taulois s work is worn around the neck. Some works question the economics of relations between artists, viewers and modes of production: the gift and counter-gift in the case of Katinka Bock, theft in that of Eva Barto, bankruptcy in that of Cool Balducci. From Rometti Costales s flag of magical anarchism to Yona Friedman s darkly humorous tale of democracy, to the revolutionary lyricism of Delphine Coindet s phylactery, the exhibition is ultimately an echo chamber of poetical forms of the political.

LINDRE-BASSE RESIDENCY MARCH - MAY 2018 RomUALD DumAS-jANDOLO OPEN STUDIO WEDNESDAY 16 MAY 6:30PM From the first works created at the beginning of the 2010s to his recent pieces, Romuald Dumas-Jandolo has been deploying a whole world of contrasts and ambivalences, which he is gradually establishing as a method: gloomy and flamboyant, grotesque and heroic, serious and light-hearted he offers all of these faces at the same time. He distils this same metamorphic energy in his installations, drawings, films, and sculptures made of ceramic, burned wood or bronze. The heterogeneous whole gradually constructs the hallucinatory stage. In the context of his residency in Lindre-Basse, Romuald Dumas- Jandolo exhumes past memories and attempts to reconstruct a tattered genealogy. From a VHS tape that documents a complete performance by the family circus, the artist constructs a voiceover narrative that enables him to recover possession of aesthetically outdated archive images, in which the affability of the acts only faintly conceals a boundless sadness, and sometimes even the dread of ridiculousness and of the exploitation of bodies, both human and animal. Three residency sessions: - September - November 2018 - March - May 2019 - June - August 2019 The artist residency programme is organised in collaboration with the Lorraine Regional Natural Park and the commune of Lindre-Basse.

upcoming exhibition JEAN-LUC MOULène opening THURSDAY 7 june 2018, 6PM exhibition from 8 june 2018 to 21 OCTOBER 2018 This exhibition is produced in collaboration with the Fondation d entreprise Hermès. For more than twenty years, Jean-Luc Moulène has developed a complex body of work, both analytical and mysterious, of which photography has long constituted the most visible and best-known part. From the Disjunctions a series of seemingly banal, frequently urban images that function as indeterminate topographical references at the heart of the real world to the celebrated Objets de grève ( Strike objects : product shots of industrial artefacts made by striking workers, subverting the tools of their trade), Moulène s photographs are strikingly raw, cruel and uncompromising, but always secretly metaphorical. Drawings and sculptural objects have always played a part in his work, but both have assumed greater importance in recent years, superseding photography to become the chief component of Moulène s most recent, large-scale exhibitions, though the essential spirit driving his distinctive oeuvre remains unchanged. Moulène s works explore the question of representation in his chosen media, while at the same time drawing on their essential physicality and materiality to engage tirelessly with political, social and ontological issues made flesh notably through the concept of transaction, an economically and sensitively charged term applied to the ongoing transaction between the imagination and reality. off site EXHIBITIONS 2018-2019 L HéRITAGE DES SECRETS SERIES OF THREE EXHIBITIONS CONCEIVED BY THE CAC SYNAGOGUE DE DELME BY INVITATION OF THE FONDATION D ENTREPRISE HERMÈS Overlay HIPPOLYTE HENTGEN exhibition from 17 march 2018 to 20 MAI 2018 This solo exhibition of the French duo Hippolyte Hentgen at La Grande Place, musée du cristal Saint-Louis, in Saint-Louis-lès-Bitche (Moselle, France) is produced by the Fondation d entreprise Hermès, as part of its continuing support for temporary exhibitions at the Foundation s own art spaces (in Brussels, Singapore, Seoul and Tokyo). Each year, the Foundation presents two exhibitions of contemporary art at Saint-Louis, with a focus on artisanship and/or skilled expertise. Each season of three monographic or themed exhibitions is co-produced with a leading cultural institution in the Lorraine region, in association with the cristallerie Saint-Louis and La Grande Place, Musée du Cristal Saint- Louis. Following the inaugural and follow-up seasons, in partnership with the Centre Pompidou- Metz and 49 Nord 6 Est Frac Lorraine (Metz), the Foundation has invited the Moselle-based contemporary arts centre - la synagogue de Delme to devise the third cycle of exhibitions. Under the title L héritage des secrets ( The heritage of secrets ) Marie Cozette, director of CAC - la synagogue de Delme, has devised a series of three exhibitions exploring the historical, architectural, aesthetic, technical and human facets of the crystal workshops, over their four-hundred-year existence. As Marie Cozette explains: The guest artists for the series art duo Hippolyte Hentgen, Thu Van Tran, and Dominique Ghesquière have immersed themselves in the unique world of the cristallerie, to create new works that seek to diffract meaning, just as crystal diffracts the light. For their exhibition at La Grande Place, musée du cristal Saint-Louis, artist duo Hippolyte Hentgen have created a panorama tailored to the scale of the setting. The visual and choral installation enters into the multi-faceted world of the cristallerie [ ] Hippolyte Hentgen draws on a broad range of materials and means to pay a deceptively simple tribute to the multiplicity of gestures, expertise and techniques that attend the birth of each object manufactured at the workshops. CAC - LA SYNAGOGUE DE DELME Catherine Jacquat Chair Marie Cozette Director Fanny Larcher-Collin Administration and communication Camille Grasser Educational services and reception Alain Colardelle Production manager and head technician Juliette Hesse Educational services and reception The Centre for contemporary Art in Delme is located in a former synagogue, built in an Oriental style in the late nineteenth century. Not least among its special features are a dome, an arcaded entryway decorated with latticework, and windows with geometric stained glass. The synagogue was partly destroyed during the Second World War. The outer walls survived, but the interior was rebuilt along stricter lines after the war. The synagogue was permanently de-consecrated in the early 1980s for lack of sufficient numbers of worshippers. The first art exhibition was held in 1993. The many artists who have exhibited in this unusual venue in the past twenty years, generating an identity and reputation for the art center both locally and internationally, include: François Morellet, Daniel Buren, Tadashi Kawamata, Ann Veronica Janssens, Peter Downsbrough, Marc Camille Chaimowicz, Katinka Bock, Julien Prévieux, Gianni Motti, Yona Friedman, Eric Baudelaire, Chloé Maillet and Louise Hervé, Erik Beltran, Marie Cool and Fabio Balducci, Susan Hiller, Clément Rodzielski All have developed a special view of the venue by creating site specific works. In addition to three or four temporary shows presented in the former synagogue every year, the Delme art center manages an artist-in-residence program in the village of Lindre-Basse in the heart of the Lorraine regional park area. The Delme synagogue, of modest size and located in a rural region of Lorraine, has always positioned itself as an art lab, a site of artistic exploration and production. The art center makes a concerted effort to establish a dialogue with all potential audiences, focusing on the local area. Inaugurated on 22 September 2012, Gue(ho)st House is an architecture-sculpture made out of an existing building. It offers visitor reception spaces dedicated to mediation and documentation, and allows everyone to prolong their visit to the exhibitions at the art centre. It s signed by the artists Christophe Berdaguer and Marie Péjus. La synagogue de Delme Centre for Contemporary Art is a member of DCA Association pour le Développement des Centres d Art, Art en Résidence and Lora - Lorraine Réseau Art contemporain and Arts en résidence - French national network.
