Dancing in 360

Dancing in 360 Nicolas Le Riche and Clairemarie Osta Out of the desire to guide, teach, show, lead, build, and transmit... we created LAAC, L Atelier d Art Chorégraphique. In this unprecedented approach to transmission, we set out to introduce dance training based on transference from the artists themselves. Like a master painter in his studio long ago, we invite professionals, apprentices, amateurs and children to dance in 360 - contemporary dance at the crossroads of movements and disciplines. Dance. with us, but also with dancers from all over the world who come to take turns transmitting their visions. Perpetual creation. inside the historic walls of the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris, LAAC was conceived as an artistic residency.

LEARNING & TRANSMITTING IN A THEATRE Since 2015, LAAC has inhabited the very heart of the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, which has welcomed it in all its dimensions. By doing so, Michel Franck and his team support the LAAC s passionate devotion to teaching younger generations, and projects for performance on stage. Here, each dancer plays an active role in the life of the theatre, constituting an essential link in the chain that shapes the artistic work.

Nicolas Le Riche has danced with the great masters of classical and 20th century contemporary dance: Roland Petit, Rudolph Nureyev, Maurice Béjart, and Jerome Robbins, to name only a few. Contemporary choreographers who have created for him include Mats Ek, William Forsythe, Jirí Kylián, Robin Orlyn, Angelin Preljocaj, Trisha Brown and Saburo Teshigawara The founders Nicolas Le Riche Throughout his twenty-year career as an Étoile dancer with the Paris Opera, Nicolas Le Riche has collaborated with the world s most celebrated opera houses including the Mariinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg, the Royal Opera House in London, the New York City Ballet, La Scala in Milan Nicolas Le Riche is a multi-faceted artist. He is also an actor and worked with Julien Schnabel on the film The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, winner of the 2008 Golden Globe awards for Best Director and Best Foreign Film. He assisted in staging the Comédie Française production of Quatre Quatuors à corde pour un weekend by Gao Xi Qiang, winner of the 2000 Nobel Prize for Literature. He also performed in the theatrical production of Huis Clos, by Jean-Paul Sartre, under the direction of Guillaume Gallienne. Nicolas le Riche is a choreographer responsible for works created for the Paris Opera (Caligula), the CND (Birdy), the CCN in Nancy (RVB21), and the Bordeaux National Opera (Sur la grève). Vincent Perez shot the film version of his piece Odyssée. Commissioned by the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, he created Une Après-midi... for Clairemarie Osta, followed by PARA-II-ELES in 2016, a choreographic work based on original music by Matthieu Chedid. Passionate about education and transmission, he founded LAAC, L Atelier d Art Chorégraphique, with Clairemarie Osta at the Théâtre des Champs- Elysées in 2015, where both teach. In August 2017, Nicolas Le Riche was named Director of the Swedish Royal Ballet.

Named Étoile at the Paris Opera in 2002, Clairemarie Osta received first prizes from the Conservatoire Supérieur de Paris and the Conservatoire Régional de Nice, and was the tap dancing champion of France as a child. The founders Clairemarie Osta Clairemarie Osta has worked with Rudolf Nureev, Carolyn Carlson, John Neumeier, Jirí Kylián and Jerome Robbins and has inspired numerous choreographers that have created roles especially for her. As such, Roland Petit wrote the role of Marie in Clavigo and Angelin Preljocaj that of the awakening in Siddhartha. Other roles would come from Benjamin Millepied in Amoveo, Mats Ek in Appartement, and William Forsythe in Pas-Parts. For Jean Claude Gallota, she would be the bride of Nosferatu, and for Nicolas Le Riche, Lune in Caligula. In 2008, she played Anaïs Nin in the short film Anaïs Rushes, by Clara Ballatore. In 2012, the documentary Les Adieux retraced preparations for her final performance at the Paris Opera in the role of Manon in l Histoire de Manon by Kenneth McMillan. One year later, she was named Director of Choreographic Studies at the CNSMD de Paris. In 2014, Clairemarie Osta performed M. & Mme Rêve by Marie-Claude Pietragalla and Julien Derouault before travelling throughout France with the production of Itinérances, directed by Nicolas Le Riche. As part of a body of work commissioned by the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Nicolas Le Riche created her solo in Une Après-midi set to the music of Claude Debussy, and a role in the duo Odyssée set to music by Arvo Pärt, which would become the subject of a short film directed by Vincent Perez in 2016. In 2015, Clairemarie Osta co-founded LAAC, L Atelier d Art Chorégraphique, at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées. In 2016, she and Nicolas Le Riche created PARA-II-ELES, a poetic dance performance set to music by Matthieu Chedid as part of the TranscenDances program at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, which then went on tour. Clairemarie Osta has presided over the jury for the Nijinsky Competition in Deauville for the last three years and also serves on juries for the competition in Lausanne and the Tanzolymp in Berlin. She is named Head of Ballet at the Royal Swedish Ballet School in January 2018. As of January 2018, she is the Head of Ballet at the Royal Swedish Ballet School. Clairemarie Osta is a Chevalier de l Ordre de la Légion d Honneur et des Arts et Lettres.

Internationally renowned Created in 2015, LAAC hosts: 110 students/year 25 apprentices / 25 adult amateurs / 60 children 10 nationalities 1 annual performance at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées 15 professional performances 30 professional contracts awarded to our students 20 work experience internships in dance companies 8 partnerships 20 visiting teachers international guest artists

Press The press has followed LAAC and recognized its qualities. «transmitting their art form to children and adults, both amateur and professional. They feel they ve ultimately become acrobats, incarnations of Roland Petit s Forains that so greatly inspired them. And, charmingly, their playing fields are so mixed up that they no longer know exactly where their adventure will lead them: Our common ground is dance! says Nicolas Le Riche. No, it s life, replies Clairemarie» Le Figaro, February 2016 «The Théatre des Champs-Elysées will thus be home to this unprecedented project to provide dancers with personalized guidance. Nicolas Le Riche and Clairemarie Osta aim to create a space open to children from age 8 and up, to amateurs, and to apprentices working toward a professional career.» Danses avec la plume, 2015 «An entirely new concept, these dance classes are completely personalized and will include «master classes» by various artists performing in the TranscenDance program.» France Musique, June 2015 «These are young dancers that have finished their studies, that are on the path to professional insertion, and therefore in the transitional years that are so important and so difficult to navigate. We want to assist them in this precise period, using our experience and our network. The objective of this workshop is to recreate what took place long ago in painters workshops. Apprentices came to perfect their art with masters before going out on their own. So it s really transmission from artist to artist that we re aiming for.» Culturebox, December 2016 «The age of methods is gone! These experts that are passing on their artistic knowledge are the liberators of imagination that is how dance transformed and continues to evolve. Today, we have young people that are convinced they can create something. Choreography is the incarnation of the body, it isn t an empty envelope.» Resmusica, September 2015

LAAC Workshop Annual workshops Training for 20 Apprentices. Recruitment is ongoing throughout the year. Apprentices participate in twenty different master classes and workshops. The artistic and educational direction is provided by Nicolas Le Riche and Clairemarie Osta. Nicholas Khan is the artistic associate and educational advisor. LAAC develops a personalized mentorship by questioning the meaning behind each individual s artistic and choreographic practice. The goal is to guide the Apprentice in the construction of his or her own artistic vision and the meaning attributed to his or her practice. LAAC encourages artistic encounters and proposes unusual territories for creation in the aim of building the individual s awareness and nourishing their artistic sensibility. Annual training for adult amateurs and children LAAC infuses the training it provides with energy and inspiration that is shared amongst pre-professionals and amateurs, regardless of their individual objectives. This mutually enriching dynamic places each dancer s sense of commitment at the very heart of the choreographic practice. The amateurs take part in the Apprentice classes and the children are included in the end of year performance. The children also have the opportunity to meet the various artists invited by LAAC. LAAC Workshop Daily workshops given by highly qualified, internationally renowned choreographic artists. Instruction in techniques ranging from classical to contemporary by way of current dance forms. Encounters Master classes and conferences across all artistic domains (Art History, music, etc.) Choreographic instructors Nicolas Le Riche, Clairemarie Osta, Nicholas Khan, Florence Clerc, Nathalie Pubellier, Julie Suchestow, Marion Levy, Yvan Dubreuil et Véronique Jean. LAAC Events LAAC s creative projects are an occasion to give back to the public in cooperation with its partners. Initiated throughout the year, these projects allow Apprentices to learn about the many ways of approaching the stage, creation and what it means to be a choreographer. LAAC aims to develop the Apprentices creativity by producing several projects in diverse settings (museums, theatres, outdoors, on video, etc.) so that these future dancers can refine and fulfill their artistic sensibility. LAAC en scène(s) Public performances At the end of the season, a public creation is performed by students of LAAC en scène(s). Creations at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées have already been performed in June 2016 and 2017. Public performances are produced throughout the year, placing the students in the conditions of a dance company. LAAC : Educational and Social Initiatives CHAD Classes LAAC has created partnerships with several educational establishments as part of the CHAD program adjusted schedule classes in TMD-dance at Fontaine High School. Social Initiatives After working with autistic youth and Seconde Pro students in 2016 as part of a class project at PAC in partnership with Ulislycée Monod, Paris 5ème and Santos-Dumont Day Hospital, LAAC repeated the adventure in 2017 through a partnership with Gombault Darnaud Day Hospital. Teens with behavioral disorders were invited to the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées for a choreographic workshop in which LAAC students took part. Learning and practicing choreography is an integral part of their journey toward achieving social integration, autonomy and the development of an open, humanistic mindset toward the world and others. The LAAC Platform An annual Platform and occasion for multidisciplinary encounters and exchanges at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées June 2018 LAAC aims to establish itself in the international landscape of great professional dance training. Building on its rich international network of dance world professionals, dance schools and major ballet companies, LAAC puts its experience to work for its apprentices and, in doing so, is becoming an international Platform for the talents of tomorrow. In order to promote the professional insertion of young dancers, the directors of international companies and schools will be invited to the event. Paris will see itself endowed with an international choreographic rendezvous, the heart of which will be the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, a stage that has always welcomed international ballets. The proposed events will be open to the public and to professionals. LAAC Surprise Parties Following the Platform, a festive and creative event will be organized around LAAC s Surprise Parties : carte blanche will be given to artists from diverse backgrounds dance, theatre, film, visual arts and music.
