2017 CITY OF WHYLLA ART PRIZE ENTRY TERMS AND CONDITIONS Established by the Whyalla Arts Council in 1972, the Whyalla Art Prize was initially designed to promote emerging artists; since this time the prize has flourished and developed into a significant national award and an important exhibition of contemporary art in Australia. Through this initiative, the Whyalla community has acquired an impressive and notable collection of artworks in iconic styles that reflect the spirit and the changing face of Australia. The Whyalla Art Prize is open to all Australian artists (citizens or residents for at least twelve months) with a major prize of $25,000. Entries must be wall-based works in any medium other than photography. Following the success of our digital initiative in 2015, the Whyalla Art Prize is again encouraging moving image artists to enter works in this year s prize. Adelaide Airport has joined us as an exhibition partner for 2017 and will host a selection of artworks from the Whyalla Art Prize in their concourse from December 2017 January 2018. Bringing contemporary visual arts practice to Whyalla in a single exhibition, the Whyalla Art Prize continues to discover new talent and invigorates artistic passions, while supporting artists both locally and Australia-wide. EXHIBITION DATES: Saturday 30 September Saturday 2 December 2017 OFFICIAL OPENING: Middleback Arts Centre 141a Nicolson Avenue, Whyalla Monday 9 October 2017 TOTAL PRIZE MONEY: $25,000.00 ENTRIES FOR PRE-SELECTION CLOSE: 5:00pm (ACDT), Monday 29 May, 2017 TO ENTER: To enter for pre-selection please visit www.countryarts.org.au and follow the link to the online application. CONDITIONS OF ENTRY The City of Whyalla Art Prize is a competition and exhibition open to all Australian artists (citizens or residents for at least twelve months) with prize money of $25,000. A panel of judges will pre-select up to 60 works for the final exhibition and judging, from digital images submitted online. Moving image artists will be asked to provide a link to upload their video. Decisions made by the selection panel are final, and no correspondence will be entered into. Shortlisted artists selected will then be required to transport their artwork to Whyalla for exhibition and final judging. All selected entries are eligible for the Country Art s SA People s Choice Award category. Audiences will be invited to vote throughout the course of the exhibition. This category will be awarded one week prior to the close of the exhibition and the artist will be notified by email and phone. ARTWORKS There is no limit to the number of works entered by an individual artist, but each work must be accompanied by an entry fee to be eligible. Entries must be wall-based works in any medium other than photography. They can be three dimensional works but must be able to be displayed via d-hooks and regular wall hanging systems. Any artworks that do not hang flat or require assembly by the installation crew must be discussed with the Visual Arts Coordinator, Country Arts SA prior to submission. Single channel moving image works will be submitted in a format to be negotiated with the Award organisers. Artwork must not exceed 2m x 2m (including frame), on any one side. Art works may be submitted in any medium (e.g. oil, watercolour, mixed media, single channel moving image, glass etc). Photographs are not eligible. Multi-panel pieces are accepted and are regarded as one work. The overall size of the work must not exceed the maximum size of 2m x 2m (including frame) on any one side. All entries must be of original works that have been created in the 12 months prior to Monday 29 May, 2017. Artwork images submitted as part of the Entry must be of the finished Artwork. Artworks previously exhibited in other prizes and exhibitions are only eligible if they have not won a prize.. Artworks considered offensive, demeaning or contain the unauthorised use of Indigenous symbols, motifs and imagery are not eligible. Artworks will be displayed in the Middleback Arts Centre and must be suitable for audiences of all ages. Where works may contain images sensitive for some viewers, Country Arts SA will work with the Artist to ensure their display is suitable for all audiences.

Artworks will be selected for final judging solely on the digital images provided as part of the online entry process. Any additional biographies, artist s statements or other additional information will not be taken into consideration during the judging process. Once selected for final judging, artists will be given the opportunity to provide additional information (max 150 words) for use on labels, and to be provided for judges and the public.
