the corn exchange The Corn Exchange - engineered fabrics - By 1851 Leeds booming textiles industry employed 34% of the workforce compared with 1.3% in agriculture. Following petitions from local corn dealers the council agreed to build a new Corn Exchange & a competition was won by Cuthbert Broderick with his design based on the Hale Au Blue in Paris & completed in 1864. Just one of three remaining in the country it is one of the finest examples of Victorian commercial architecture with the great elliptical dome a masterpiece of engineering. A great example of a structure able to adapt, the exchange is now an upmarket independent fashion outlet having previously been used to house alternative fashion & vintage shops. It is often called the Covent Garden of the North & helped spark Leeds modern renaissance as a major capital for culture & shopping. The vast majority of issues are usually associated with incorrect care, fit or selecting an innapropriate fabric for the working environment. The following tips are designed to help you maximise your investments in your new corporate image clothing. Selection There is plenty of choice within our collections and garment fit is generous. All aspects designed to cater for varying ages, shapes and sizes. Depending on your company size it may be appropriate to form a group of stakeholders to evaluate suppliers and products. This often goes a long way to acheiving buy in from staff if they have been involved in the decision making process and this can be related positively to other staff members. Consider style and colour carefully. Will it suit most of the staff? Will it reflect the correct image for your company or organisation? Take advice from your supplier. They will know best which fabric will perform best in the environment the garments are to be worn in. Process Consider issuing sizing sets for staff to establish the correct fit for them. Remember every suppliers version of a size 12 will fit differently. A good supplier may assist in sizing events depending on how many wearers and locations there are. Samples & sizing sets from skopes can be returned to us by your supplier. How many? Make sure staff have enough garments for the working week. The usual rule is one on, one ready and one in the wash for tailored garments and 3-5 blouses/shirts/tops as a minimum requirement for full time staff depending on number of days and hours worked per week. Whilst cost is a very important consideration, skimping on quantities at the outset will be a false economy as the initial saving is swallowed up with replacing worn out items more frequently. Consider a staff purchase scheme to allow staff to buy additional items should they wish. Remember if the price is too good to be true it usually is. There is much development that goes into making a skopes garment what it is - comfortable, stylish & durable. Aftercare Investing in good quality means nothing if staff don t take responsibility for caring for their clothing in the correct way. Consider issuing a fact sheet on how garments should be cared for. The following advice is designed to maximise your investment and aimed at keeping your corporate clothing looking good for longer. Always follow the instructions on the garment care label. When machine washing garments for best results - wash like garments together. Do not mix different fabric types. Do not overload the machine which will cause excessive creasing. Use a wool (reduced) wash cycle. Remove immediately the cycle ends. Straighten lapels and seams and place on a hanger to dry naturally. Over washing can cause garments to wear out prematurely. Washing at too high temperature can cause shrinkage and colour loss. Do not use fabric softeners. Do not tumble dry. Never iron directly onto the fabric as this will cause shine or glazing. Use a suitable fabric between the iron and the fabric surface. Use a 2 dot setting. Always hang garments on the hanger at the end of the day. Empty pockets and give the garments room to recover. A regular, quick brush will remove dust and dirt from the fibres which can cause garments to shine and wear out quicker. Ensure garments are rotated and not worn on consecutive days, trousers and skirts in particular. Although not necessary, an occasional dry clean of suiting garments will bring them back to their original, pristine condition. We use an accredited, uk laboratory to conduct all our testing which includes pilling and abrasion tests to establish durability, colour fastness, shrinkage & garment wash tests amongst many others.
