TAFE SA Hair and Beauty program can offer you Vocational Education and Training (VET) for Schools as part of our nationally recognised training package and is available to students from years 10 to 12 as part of their normal school curriculum. The Hair and Beauty VET for Schools program helps students: > > Develop practical, industry-specific skills > > Increase your understanding of the hair and beauty industry > > Gain a nationally recognised qualification VET study also counts towards the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) and is the perfect pathway into further hair and beauty study at TAFE SA. For Stage 2 SACE credits requirements Certificate III courses that exceed three terms will need to be commenced in Year 11. It is a perfect preparation to assist in gaining employment in either an apprenticeship in Hairdressing or a traineeship in Beauty. Our short courses provide you with a taste of the hair and beauty industry; they give you a good understanding of the scope and career options the industry can offer you. Training Guarantee for SACE Students (TGSS) opportunities are available with select courses.

SHORT COURSES These courses are designed to give you a taste of the hair, beauty and make-up industry, along with skills and knowledge, to allow you to make informed decisions about hairdressing, makeup or beauty as a career pathway. They can also be used to assist in meeting TGSS eligibility criteria. Hair and Make-Up Directions Accredited units from Certificate II in Salon Assistant SHB20216 A course to introduce you to the hair, beauty and make-up industry. This course will explore skin care, make-up, nails, blow-drying, braiding, long hair styling, basin services and salon skills. From this course you can further your studies in Certificate II in Salon Assistant (SHB20216), Certificate II in Retail Cosmetics (SHB20116) or Certificate III in Make-Up (SHB30215). Introduction to Hair and Beauty Accredited unit from Certificate II in Salon Assistant SHB20216 For those of you who would like a look at what it is to be a hairdresser or beauty therapist and the career options available. This is a hands on approach to an exciting career and precursor to Certificate II in Salon Assistant (SHB20216) or Certificate II in Retail Cosmetics (SHB20116). Fee: $300 SACE Credits: Duration: This course may entitle you to SACE credits* Day course: 4 weeks, 1 day per week; Night course: 8 weeks, 1 night per week; Holiday course: 4 consecutive days Barber Shorts Accredited unit from Certificate II in Salon Assistant SHB20216 Want to be a barber? Come and find out about what a career in Barbering is all about from industry experts. A hands-on course and precursor to Certificate III in Barbering (SHB30516). Fee: $300 SACE Credits: Duration: This course may entitle you to SACE credits* Day course: 4 weeks, 1 day per week; School Holiday course: 4 consecutive days Hair and Beauty Holiday Program Non accredited course An introduction course to expose you to the hair and beauty industry. We will look at skin care, make-up, blow-drying, braiding, long hair styling and basin services. Fee: $150 Duration: 2 consecutive days Non-accredited course aimed at Year 10 students Make-up Accredited units from Certificate II in Retail Cosmetics SHB20116 A course for those with a passion for make-up. You will learn how to apply make-up ready for day to evening. From this course you can further your studies by undertaking another short course or move onto Certificate III in Make-up (SHB30215). Make-up for Photography Prerequisite: Design and Apply Make-up SHBBMUP002 A course for those who have successfully completed design and apply make-up. You will learn the skills needed to work with photographers, fashion stylists, hairdressers and media production teams. You will learn to master fashion forward techniques such as glamour and smoky eyes, as well as make-up for special events and catwalk. From this course you can further you studies by undertaking another short course or move into Certificate III in Make-up (SHB30215). Spray Tanning Accredited units from Certificate III in Make-up SHB30215 Would you like to become fully qualified at spray tanning? This can be the start of building your beauty skill sets allowing you to work in a beauty salon, or start your own mobile business. From this course you can further your studies by undertaking another short course or move onto Certificate III in Beauty Services (SHB30115). Nail It Accredited units from Certificate III in Nail Technology SHB30315 An introduction for those who have a passion for nails. You will learn manicure, pedicure and how to advise on beauty services. From this course you can move into Certificate III in Nail Technology where you will learn nail art, gel and acrylic nails and electric file. Contact your preferred campus for dates, times and intakes. Some courses are run at selected campuses only.

HAIRDRESSING/BARBERING Certificate II in Salon Assistant SHB20216 TGSS funded, aimed at Year 11 students. This course is fully funded by TGSS for eligible students. If you have decided hairdressing or barbering is the career for you, this is your training pathway. Study the Certificate II in Salon Assistant (SHB20216) at TAFE SA Hair and Beauty and unleash your passion for hairdressing and barbering. You will learn about interacting with clients and providing hairdressing services, combined with developing skills to become an integral part of a highly creative team. The course provides an insight into the industry and you will gain practical skills in hairdressing and barbering. This certificate is the first qualification in your chosen career pathway and most subjects transfer to Certificate III in Hairdressing (SHB30416) and Certificate III in Barbering (SHB30516). Fee: $2,400 + $85 (student kit) SACE Credits: This course may entitle you to SACE credits.* Duration: 4 terms, 1 day per week Once you have completed the Certificate II in Salon Assistant (SHB20216) you can further your hairdressing skills in the following course: Certificate III in Hairdressing (partial) SHB30416 Accredited course aimed at Year 12 students Pre-requisite: Certificate II in Salon Assistant Discover a dynamic career in hairdressing with this course, which is the essential qualification to work as a hairdresser in Australia. Choose from the hairdressing of barber stream. Fee: $1,200 SACE Credits: This course may entitle you to SACE credits.* Duration: 1 semester, 1 day per week BEAUTY Certificate II in Retail Cosmetics SHB20116 Accredited course aimed at Year 11 students If make-up is your chosen career then this qualification will give you the skills and knowledge to create make-up for day, evening and special events. You will master fashion forward techniques in various looks such as glamour, smoky eye and cat walk make-up. Together with your practical techniques you will experience the duties and responsibilities of working in a salon, client consultations, and advising and recommending beauty products and services. Fee: $2,400 Duration: 4 terms, 1 day per week Once completed Certificate II in Retail Cosmetics (SHB20116) you can receive credit for crossover units and continue studies to gain a full Certificate III in either of the following courses: If you have not completed a Certificate II in Retail Cosmetics (SHB20116), you can choose a Certificate III listed below specialising in make-up or beauty services. The duration is longer, therefore commencement in Year 11 is necessary. Alternatively you may need to attend two days per week if SACE credits or an ATAR are a requirement. Certificate III in Make-Up SHB30215 Accredited course aimed at Year 11 students Take make-up to an exciting new level. This course will give you the skills and knowledge to express your creativity and explore the design elements of make-up. We will help you master skills such as day evening, bridal, glamour, cat walk, air brushing and creative makeup techniques as well as spray tanning and lash and brow shapes. The course explores theory subjects in customer service, advising and recommending beauty products and services. Fee: $3,000 + $165 (student kit) Duration: 5 terms, 1 day per week Accredited course aimed at Year 11 students *Please check the SACE website for further information. Certificate III in Beauty Services (partial) SHB30115 (Waxing unit is an additional cost/time to complete the full Certificate III) Accredited course aimed at Year 11 students This course covers the essential knowledge and understanding to work as a beautician. These units allow you to perform services in waxing, tanning, manicures, pedicures, and eye lash and brow treatments. You have the ability to choose electives to personalise your course. Together with practical techniques, you will experience the duties and responsibilities of working in a salon, client consultations, advising and recommending beauty products and services. Fee: $4,800 + $215 (student kit) Duration: 2 years, 1 day per week Certificate III in Make-Up SHB30215 (Remaining units for full Certificate III once completing Certificate II) Accredited course aimed at Year 12 students Prerequisite: Certificate II in Retail Cosmetics (SHB20116) You will learn skills and knowledge to work as a make-up artist either in beauty clinics, retail or as a freelance make-up artist. The course covers day, evening, bridal, glamour, catwalk airbrushing and creative make-up techniques as well as spray tanning and lash and brow treatments. These skills will be delivered in our beauty clinics which simulate the workplace. Fee: $1,800 Duration: 3 terms, 1 day per week Certificate III in Beauty Services SHB30115 (Remaining units for full Certificate III once completing Certificate II - except waxing). Prerequisite: Certificate II in Retail Cosmetics (SHB20116) Accredited course aimed at Year 12 students You will learn how to perform services in waxing, tanning, manicure and pedicure, eyelash and brow treatments and you have the ability to choose electives to personalise your course to suit your career. This course enables you to work as a beautician and is delivered in our beauty clinics which simulate the workplace. Fee: $3,000 + $215 (student kit) Duration: 5 terms, 1 day per week
