FR Disposable Clothing Guide Does your protective secondary FR clothing perform well in burn, flame response & repellency tests? KNOW THE FACTS that will protect your most valued assets. View remarkable results from a side-by-side comparison test conducted on some of the most commonly worn secondary FR disposable clothing. FR Disposable Clothing Guide 2

Fabric Performance and Clothing Selection Guide Disposable secondary FR garments are designed to protect and extend the life of more costly, non-disposable primary FR garments. The barrier that disposable FR clothing provides against oil, grease, and other workplace substances can reduce laundering expenses for the primary garment while greatly increasing worker protection. However, if the garment you have selected claims to meet the non-existent standards for FR disposable clothing, it may not provide the necessary protection against hazardous fluid exposure to your primary garment and increase risk for wearer injury. FR Disposable Clothing Guide 3

Testing Procedure Recently, a number of secondary disposable FR garments made of lower cost Chinese fabric have entered the work place. Three of these garments, along with Lakeland s Pyrolon Plus 2, were sent to a highly regarded independent thermal mannequin testing lab in North Carolina where they were put through a standard battery of burn testing. Three of the garments labels cited that they meet the NFPA 701 FR standard. In actuality, the NFPA 701 standard is for drapes, blinds and other window coverings not FR clothing. The garments were tested and found to offer little protection for wearers exposed to potentially life-threatening chemicals and burns. You owe it to your workers to carefully review the following test data BEFORE making an informed purchase decision. FR Disposable Clothing Guide 4

Repellency Testing Water, alcohol, and oil repellency are all good indicators of the overall repellency to industrial solvents, machine oil, hydraulic fluids, lubricating greases and other hazardous chemicals used extensively in workplace settings. If a secondary FR garment does not repel the hazardous fluid, it is not doing its job of protecting the primary garment, nor the person wearing it. A product that has limited repellency will allow fluid to soak through to the primary FR garment. This causes wearers to receive a higher percentage of body burns in the event of a flash fire. Of the garments tested, one stood out for exceptional repellency performance. Pyrolon Plus 2 repelled the hazardous substances and its overall performance far exceeded the other competitive FR disposable garments for protection. Repellency Data - (Highest score is best) Sample 1 Sample 2 Sample 3 Lakeland Pyrolon Plus 2 Water Spray (0-100) WSP 50.1 Test Method 0 0 85 50 Alcohol Drop (0-10) WSP 80.1 Test Method 0 0 3 7 Oil Repllency (0-8) AATCC 118 Test Method 0 0 0 5 * Note: Zero represents immediate penetration through the fabric* FR Disposable Clothing Guide 6

Burn Data With the exception of the Lakeland Pyrolon Plus 2 garment, each of the products tested allowed oil to reach the primary FR garment underneath, and the skin of the person wearing it. This testing result is a critical factor when considering the wearer s risk for potential injury. Additionally, heat flux in the burn test with the products was two to three times higher than with Pyrolon Plus 2. The data shows that Pyrolon Plus 2 significantly improved the performance of the primary garment by cutting heat flux by more than half and reducing the maximum temperature next to the skin by more than 100 degrees. Flame Response Data The test data showed that of the garments tested, Pyrolon Plus 2 is the only garment that prevented additional body burn from its repellency performance and oil strike through with exceptional self-extinguishing qualities that prevent the secondary garment from burning. The other garments did not offer repellency or self-extinguishing qualities, causing fabric to melt and pose greater risk for a lethal burn. Choose the best secondary FR garment to protect wearers and your valued assets. The best choice for secondary FR apparel is the one that most effectively protects wearers in the event of chemical saturation and flash fires. Results undeniably have shown that none of the China-made fabrics tested provide adequate protection. Pyrolon Plus 2, in conjunction with a primary FR garment, will protect wearers far more effectively from chemical saturation and will decrease the risk of injury from flash fire. Protect your workers by providing an effective layer of secondary FR protection that performs as promised. FR Disposable Clothing Guide 10
