COSTUMES DESIGNED BY MEGAN BAKER 2011/12
THE GUID SISTERS By Michel Tremblay Translated by Martin Bowman and Bill Findlay Directed by Serge Denoncourt Costumes designed by Megan Baker Set designed by Francis O Connor
Research for 15 women in The Guid Sisters. In discussion with the director the aim was to ensure that the characters were recognisably from the 1960s and needed to look as though they belonged in working class Glasgow and Montreal. All the characters were to be heightened and larger than life as well as needing to be real and identifiable to the audience. By referencing photographs of women from both countries I used colour and print to exaggerate the personalities and comedy of the play.
Sketches for The Guid Sisters.Working closely with the internationally acclaimed director Serge Denoncourt and set designer Francis O connor, I designed heightened costumes with the use of colour and print from the 1960s to exaggerate the comedy of a formidable group of 15 women as they talk about life, the world and the men in their lives.
