DRESS FOR SUCCESS AND OTHER HELPFUL TIPS!

WHAT S SO IMPORTANT ABOUT DRESS? First impressions are CRITICAL! You are marketing a product YOURSELF! Dress is the first thing an employer sees when greeting you! Will dressing properly get you the job? it will: Give you a competitive edge Provide a positive first impression! NO, but

IS IT FAIR? Should you be judged by what you wear? THE REALITY: PERHAPS NOT You ARE judged More than 70% of your first impression is what people see. The way you dress is the single biggest nonverbal communication you make about yourself.

Grooming Women Hair should be away from your face and neatly cut and styled. Wear daytime, natural-looking makeup-no heavy eyeliner or glittery shadows. Nails should be clean and manicured; avoid overly long fingernails and nail art. Lip color and nail polish should not be too trendy or bright Perfume should be avoided-the employer may be allergic to it! Men Have your hair neatly trimmed, including facial hair. Heavy cologne or other overpowering scents should be avoided. Nails should be clean and neat.

Well, what should I wear? I Don t Think So!!

HOW SHOULD I DRESS? Conservative is ALWAYS the safest route BUT do some investigation of the employer What you wear should make you look as though you FIT IN with the organization. If you overdress or under dress, the employer may feel that you don t care enough about the job! Call the Human Resources offices and ask Visit the company s office and observe the attire current employees are wearing Make sure you are not there on a casual day!

HINTS FOR DRESS SUCCESS Make sure you have: Clean and polished conservative dress shoe Well-groomed hairstyle Cleaned and trimmed fingernails No or minimal cologne or perfume If you have any visible body parts pierced or tattooed: Remove all piercings and cover all tattoos if possible

HINTS FOR DRESS SUCCESS Lean towards the conservative side of style Avoid loud colors and printed fabrics/crazy patterns Make sure your clothes are neatly pressed Well-brushed teeth and fresh breath No gum, candy, or other objects in your mouth Minimal jewelry No body odor

DRESS FOR SUCCESS-LADIES Wear conservative clothing Sweater/shirt (avoid sleeveless) and skirt/pants dark colors nothing low-cut or too short (no more than one inch above the knee OR Dress (avoid sleeveless or sun dress)-simple pattern Suit (dark color) Avoid wearing tight clothing Shoes should be low-heeled Make-up should be minimal Lipstick and nail polish in conservative tones

DRESSING ON THE JOB Once you ve landed the job Consult your supervisor as to what is acceptable dress for his/her department Ask about any casual days and what type of dress is allowed on those days When in doubt, DRESS CONSERVATIVELY!

WHAT NOT TO WEAR AT YOUR JOB For men, pants that ride low, below the waist. Put on a belt. For women, tops with plunging necklines. Keep the top buttons buttoned. For everyone, any item that fits tightly enough to be sexually suggestive.

WHAT NOT TO WEAR!
