The festival runs from 4- and showcases cutting-edge research and expertise from across the University in a variety of stimulating and fun events for everyone, including installations, lectures, workshops, exhibitions, and discussions for all ages. Highlights... Furniture Design 2:00pm 3:00pm Rycotewood Furniture Centre (Oxford) has collaborated with the This Girl Makes initiative, to present an inclusive and practical workshop, that offers an insight into furniture design and making. With all equipment provided, participants will be able to create and take home with them, a small furniture item of their own design. All welcome. Cooking with Ken Hom 3:30pm 5:00pm Ken Hom OBE is the man who showed the British how to cook Asian food. A leading authority on Chinese cuisine, he talks about his life in food while making some tasty dishes. Ken has cooked for presidents, prime ministers, celebrities and royalty this afternoon he s cooking for you! Drawing with Light 3:45pm 4:45pm Adrian Pawley, Technical Video Specialist, demonstrates the technique of drawing with light through a one hour workshop, creating images with long exposure photography and torches. Part drawing, part choreographed performance, participants move coloured lights around the stage space to draw in the air. Using long exposure photography these movements are captured and complex, beautiful images are created. Home/Less 7:00pm 7:45pm What does home mean? Where is it? Is it a physical place or a state of mind? Should we nurture our roots could they otherwise die? Do we have only one home? An evening packed with readings from Ahmed Masoud s novel Vanished The Mysterious Disappearance of Mustafa Ouda and Laura Ryhänen s interpretations of ancient Finnish songs. Meet Artie, the Humanoid Robot 10:30am 11:30am Meet the full-sized humanoid celebrity, Artie! At OutBurst 2017 you will get the chance to control Artie, get him to sing songs or enact extracts from famous movies, you can even write your own script for him to perform. Tai Chi & Kung Fu 5:15pm 6:15pm This workshop will offer taster sessions in two traditional Chinese martial arts and health practices: Tai Chi and Kung Fu from Wudang mountain, and also Win Chun Kung Fu. The workshop includes demonstrations from both child and adult practitioners, followed by an opportunity for both children and adults to try the practices themselves.
