When sunlight reflects off a horizontal surface, like a road or water, it often becomes concentrated horizontally. This is known as glare. Vertical light is useful to the human eye. But glare masks useful light, making it difficult and uncomfortable to see. Brown and copper colours absorb blue light which the eye can find hard to use. These colours enhance contrasts making it easier to see, especially in bright light, against a blue sky or on water. Golfers too, can judge distances with accuracy. Filter categories FOR ALL WEATHERS From two to four, the filter categories in Polaroid polarized sunglasses refer to the amount of light the lens lets through to the eye. Whether it s sunny or whether it s not there s a category to suit. CATEGORY TINT TRANSMITTANCE USE 2 Light 18 43 % Filters out less light, so good for dawn and dusk. Typically yellow lens used for cycling and fishing. 3 Medium 8 18 % The most popular filter category because it works well for all sports and in cloudy or sunny conditions. 4 Dark 3 8 % Filters out more light, so good for very bright days. Not suitable for driving. Polaroid s most advanced polarized lenses ever. Made with THERMOFUSION TECHNOLOGY To make a better lens you need a better system of production. So we developed Thermofusion Technology. With it, Polaroid Eyewear can create lenses that are thicker in the middle and taper toward the edges so wearers can accurately see sizes, shapes and distances. It s a process of optical fine-tuning which happens as the lens shape is created using precisely controlled heat and pressure. And because the polarizer is at the core of the lens structure, it is protected from heat and its polarizing performance is optimised as the lens is formed. With other manufacturing methods there is a compromise between optical performance and glare-blocking capability. Injection moulded lenses are generally good for optics but the polarizer doesn t perform as well, because it comes into direct contact with molten plastic during production. By contrast vacuum-forming, used to make most of today s sunglasses creates lenses with reasonable polarizers but optical performance is often poor due to the unsophisticated lens shape. Neither process can deliver the perfect lens. Perfect OPTICS Each UltraSight TM lens is produced with nine functional elements. The core element of the lens construction is the polarizing light filter in the centre. UV light absorbers are fused to both sides of the filter to block out all harmful UV rays giving full UV400 protection. Shock absorbing layers then encase the UV absorbers, making the lens light, flexible and impact resistant. A scratchresistant layer bonded to both the outer surfaces completes the lens structure.
