MissusSmartyPants Personal Profile Style Article Volume 9 Week 16 April 17, 2014 Remember: only the last 4 weeks remain posted! 10 Items, 28 Outfits! Get ready, get set...it's time to do something truly amazing with your closet AND with your wardrobe! This week you are going to transform the way you think about your clothes and your wardrobe planning (or lack of planning and just gettin' dressed in-a-mad-rush each morning). Yes, you are going to be transformed...right along with ME! I've recently been on a new style mission of sorts where I created 28 "new" outfits using only 10 items from my closet (no recent shopping trips for me). And as a woman that always wants to look top-notch and feel stylish in whatever I'm wearing; I don't like to spend a lot of money. However, if something is worth investing in, then I'm all in. But I strongly feel "fashionable" should mean never losing sight of your budget. I feel you should challenge yourself with your wardrobe...and then suddenly, somehow you don't need as much stuff in order to BE stylish! It's a win-win sort of thing we all need to do more of!!!
Here are the step-by-step instructions for assembling your own 10-piece wardrobe module: 1. Start with your favorite pair of jeans/slacks. Yup, that s one pant or pair of jeans with fabulous fit. You know, that one pair that makes you feel like a million bucks every time you wear em. 2. Choose your color theme. Choose a couple of neutrals with one main color from your seasonal color palette. Use pops of color with your accessories/shoes,etc. (Notice I chose black and gray with a variety of blues for my 10 pc. wardrobe module) 3. Pick 3 more bottoms. They can be pants, skirts or even a pair of shorts. Choose whatever combination works best for you. 4. Select a fabulous LBD (Little Basic Dress). Choose a dress that can be worn a variety of ways--dressed up or down. FYI: keep in mind a dress can become a skirt when a shirt/blouse is worn over it! (It s just another creatively-stylish-ubercool way to extend your 10 pc. wardrobe module even more) 5. Choose 2 completer pieces. Select from basic blazers, cardigans, denim/twill jackets, short-sleeved jackets, fly-away cardis, etc. 6. Pick 3 tops. They must work with all of your bottoms. These tops should also work within your chosen color theme.
Here is the list of the 10 items I used: 1. Dark-wash Dillards Intro Stretch Skinny Jeans 2. Gray skirt (purchased from Sally s aka my local thrift store) 3. Black pencil skirt Similar Skirt Here: Coldwater Creek Mini-Check Skirt 4. Black ponte knit slacks (Steinmart, Virtue brand) 5. Safari-styled shirtdress (Target, dark khaki Merona) 6. 3/4 sleeved blue cardigan Halogen 3/4 Sleeve Cardigan (now on sale) 7. Jean jacket (purchased yrs. ago at White House-Black Market) 8. 3/4 sleeved striped knit top (purchased at a second-hand store) 9. Coldwater Creek No-Iron Perfect Shirt (petites, misses, womens) 10. Dressy blue blouse (Steinmart, Joseph A brand)
There s nothing like a floral scarf to make casual top n jeans look uber-chic! To create my poofy bow...i took the 4 corners and tied them together..then double wrapped the scarf around my neck and pulled the scarf partly through the hole I had created!
Why not? Yes, why not wear your skirt OVER your dress? I left the dress un-buttoned with a black tank underneath and added a large statement necklace. This brings attention up towards my face. Then I slide on my skirt and my dress instantly became a top! Just another way to extend your wardrobe. Peace comes from knowing. There s a certain kind of peace that comes from knowing what you are going to wear each day. You can have this when you work with a small grouping of clothes. It s one way of seeing the forest through the trees (or in this case: the outfits in all of your clothes!) I hope you ve enjoyed your journey through my closet. Of course I have way more clothes. But this small grouping of 10 items shows you the power of only a few items. Try this yourself using the 6-step formula (written above). I know can do this...after all YOU are my SYSter in style!
