2016-2017 Uniform Regulations Uniform regulations are intended as guidelines to help parents and students avoid any misunderstanding of the school administration s expectations. The uniform at St. Louis Catholic School is intended to remove any attention from differences among students. A student s appearance will be well groomed, in good taste, and according to all of the rules below. This expectation also applies to hair color. Parker School Uniforms is the uniform company for the school, and all available items, including outerwear, should be purchased from the factory store or online site. Any staff member (teachers, office staff, paid early morning supervisors, lunch monitors, etc.) may ask a student to remove or replace articles of clothing or accessories that do not comply with the guidelines below. All items are to be worn to produce the intended uniform look, not to imitate the latest fad (including hairstyle and/or color). BOYS: SHORTS ARE NOT TO BE WORN ON MASS DAY. 1. PK 8 ~ Parker khaki shorts and pants. Monogrammed green or white polos, may be worn with the shirts or pants. Brown or black belts must be worn by all students in grades 1 8. Students in PreK and Kindergarten must have pants from Parker with an elastic waistband, but may also wear a belt if they would like to wear one. 2. Shirts are to be tucked in at all times unless instructed otherwise by the Principal. 3. Plain white or green cardigans, St. Louis sweatshirts, and St. Louis jackets may all be worn in the classroom. All other outer wear is prohibited. Heavy winter coats may be worn to school and in between classes, but NOT in the classrooms. Sweatshirts other than St. Louis are not to be worn at any time. 4. Dress shoes may be worn every day. Dress shoes are mandatory on Mass days. Athletic shoes may be white, black or black & white. If a student has PE they must bring an athletic shoe to change into for class. NO canvas, neon, checkers, floral, spots, pictures, lights, or high tops allowed. 5. Solid white crew or knee socks are to be worn in PreK 8 th grade at all times. No ankle type socks should be worn at any time.
GIRLS PreK - 4: 1. Parker plaid jumper must be worn with a white peter pan collared blouse. (This style blouse does also need to be purchased at Parker.) NO POLO SHIRTS OF ANY TYPE MAY BE WORN WITH THE JUMPERS. Parker privacy shorts or Parker PE shorts ONLY must be worn under the jumpers at all times. 2. Parker khaki shorts or slacks may be worn with the white or green, monogrammed knit polo shirt also from Parker. Shorts, slacks, and all polo shirts must be purchased from Parker. Girls 5 th 8 th : 1. Only the stitched-down, pleated skirt from Parker may be worn, unless khaki pants or shorts are chosen for the day. 2. The skirts may be worn with white or green, monogrammed knit polo shirts from Parker for non-mass days. 3. Dress shoes may be worn every day. Dress shoes are mandatory on Mass days. If a student has PE they must bring an athletic shoe to change into for class.. Athletic shoes may be white, black or black & white. Grades 5 8 ~ Khaki slacks, white oxford, tie, belt and dress shoes Mass Attire for Girls PreK 4: No shorts or slacks may be worn on Mass days. Jumpers and a white peter pan blouse should be worn for Mass attire with dress shoes and white knee socks. Solid color tights in white or black are also allowed. Mass Attire for Girls 5 th 8 th : 1. Stitched-down, pleated skirt from Parker must be worn with a white oxford (purchased at Parker) and the green sleeveless vest, purchased from Parker only. Dress shoes must be worn on Mass days with white knee socks, or tights as stated above. This uniform may also be worn any other day of the week. Shirts are to be tucked in at all times when a student is on the St. Louis complex unless instructed otherwise by the Principal. NO EXCEPTIONS.
General Guidelines: Only the following jewelry is permitted: one wristwatch; one ring General Guidelines (Cont d): neckwear only ONE chain (gold or silver, no ribbons, cords, or beads) with ONE religious medal, cross or crucifix. Rosaries may not be worn as a necklace. earrings (GIRLS ONLY) only one pair of studs or hoops no wider than ½ in diameter. Hairstyles are to be conservative and in the natural color. Boys hair may not extend below the top of the shirt collar. EXCESSES AND/OR WHAT IS PERCEIVED TO BE DISTRACTING, WILL BE DETERMINED BY THE PRINCIPAL. Sunglasses, hats, or caps are not permitted. (Exceptions may be made by the Principal for wear on field trips.) With shorts or slacks, a plain black or brown belt is REQUIRED to keep shorts or slacks AT THE NATURAL WAISTLINE. Belts are available through the office on an emergency basis only. Black or white tights without design are optional. Make-up is prohibited in any grade. NAIL POLISH AND ARTIFICIAL NAILS ARE PROHIBITED IN ANY SHADE. THE PRINCIPAL AND/OR HER DESIGNEE WILL DETERMINE EXCESSES. Students will be required to remove any make-up and/or nail polish immediately. No make-up (including eye make-up), artificial nails, nail polish, perfume, or hair preparation is to be brought on the campus. If confiscated, it will be discarded. Hair accessories are to be minimal, conservative, and color-coordinated with the uniform, or can match your natural hair color.
All students (grades PreK 8) must wear a uniform jumper, skirt or slacks on ALL mass days. Shorts are not to be worn on Mass day. A student is expected to be in complete uniform from the time he/she arrives on campus until he/she has left the campus, unless involved in a supervised activity for which other attire has been approved, such as a free-dress or participation in an athletic event. Students enrolled in afterschool care must remain in uniform until they are picked-up by a parent. Students will only be allowed to wear uniforms, or jeans with St. Louis t-shirts, on field trips. The style of dress is determined by the Teacher and Administration per event. No student is to deface his/her, or anyone else s clothing in any way, such as by marking, attaching items, cutting, or tearing. Coats, jackets, and non-uniform (non-parker) sweaters or other outerwear are prohibited at all grade levels inside school buildings and the church. Coats and jackets should be placed in lockers or cubbies before classes begin at 7:45am each day. As a courtesy to families, the school allows scouts to wear the official scout uniform on meeting days. For Boy and Cub Scouts, this is the official Class A uniform. For all levels of Girl Scouts, all formal uniform pieces are acceptable. Those items not allowed are leggings, sweatshirts, T- shirts, and the mock turtleneck. All students in grades 3 to 8 are required to wear a P.E. uniform for gym class. This uniform will consist of green mesh shorts and green or gray t-shirt to be purchased through Parker. The P.E. teachers are required to penalize a student for not dressing out. Girls in grades PreK 2 are required to wear the privacy shorts from Parker for P.E. under their jumpers. Parents are to mark children s clothing with permanent marking ink or sewn-in labels. Please check the lost and found often for lost clothing and other items. For Free Dress Days, students may wear their own clothes which will follow these guidelines: Skirts and shorts are okay, but they must not be too tight or too short. No bare shoulders, which includes tank tops. Only close-toed shoes may be worn do not need to be athletic shoes, shoes must have appropriate design. Students may not wear heels. No plunging necklines or shirts that are too tight. No jeans with holes. No torn or shredded clothing. All clothing is subject to the discretion of the Administration. Flip-flops or slide shoes, shirts with offensive words or pictures (including alcohol/tobacco), or commercial advertising of any kind are not allowed. No make-up or nail polish is allowed on free-dress days.
The following are uniform violations that are NOT acceptable: 1. rolled, pinned, or tucked in pant legs 2. blouses or shirts with dropped sleeves, thick seams, or stitching on the front of the yoke, such as artist s shirts, oversized shirts or sweatshirts that fall below the hips or wrists 3. undershirts that have markings which show through the shirt 4. puffed sleeves 5. lace, eyelet, or ruffles on collars, sleeves, plackets, or socks 6. shoes trimmed in neon or with flashing lights in the heel or sole 7. neon shoe laces 8. hairstyles with notable locks or tails or shaved portions of the scalp 9. skirts with extra seams or pleats to change the way the skirt is intended to fit or hang; skirts with colored threads removed 10. pants, shorts, or skirts worn BELOW the natural waistline 11. stapled, rolled or pinned waistlines or hemlines on jumpers or skirts 12. overly wide headbands, headbands in non-uniform, or natural hair colors, or large, attention-getting hair ornaments Uniform regulations will be strictly monitored. The consequences for continued violations are posted in each classroom. ALL UNIFORM PIECES ARE TO BE PARKER ISSUE. PLEASE REMEMBER: SOME USED UNIFORM PIECES ARE ALSO AVAILABLE THROUGH THE SCHOOL OFFICE.
