Introduction In this sht rept you'll discover the most common mistakes people make when dealing with head lice. You ll be surprised how these mistakes, beliefs and actions can make things wse and actually prevent you from being successful with head lice treatment. Critical Mistake #1 Believing that lice shampoos home remedies wk 100% Maybe because of advertising popular beliefs, most people are convinced that head lice treatments wk 100%. The vast majity of people think that applying a lice shampoo a home remedy will undoubtedly kill all live lice. And when they see that it s not the case, they think the product doesn t wk and they try another one, and they enter a vicious circle on their quest to the miracle product that will wk 100%, without actually solving the problem. It s not uncommon to see people spending me than $500 on lice products, and still having to deal with their current infestation. Befe you start treating head lice, you should know that accding to research, no treatment is completely effective at getting rid of head lice. Research suggests that chemical treatments such as pesticide shampoos and lotions are ineffective, dangerous, and that they lead to a resistance of lice. Home remedies are said to be messy and not easy to use, while head shaving is really distressing f a child, and should be avoided whenever possible. Head lice treatment options would actually be a personal choice in most cases, and different degrees of effectiveness are repted, with ALL treatments having some degree of failure. This is why you should always expect a treatment to not be 100% effective. You will always need to pick some remaining lice manually with a comb, and you will also need to repeat treatment if necessary. Reference of Research: Monsen K. A. and Olson Keller L. Critical Mistake #2 Believing that a lice treatment product will kill both lice and nits Many people choose and apply a lice treatment, whether commercial natural (home remedies), and believe that the treatment will rid them of both lice and their eggs, the nits. But nothing could be farther from the truth. Adult lice and nymphs (the baby lice) are insects that may be killed with pesticides contained in commercial lice shampoos, killed slowed down by suffocating agents such as vegetable oils. However, the nits are eggs that are glued to the hair shaft, and that should be removed. To kill them, you ll need to dissolve their exoskeleton, which is kind of a protecting shell, and this can not be done easily. The same lice treatment may be effective against lice but not against nits. Nits can be unglued from the hair shaft using products like vinegar, which contains acetic acid. A chemical reaction takes place and the nits get unglued from the hair. However, using such a product on its own will not rid you of lice eggs. You will ALWAYS need to comb nits out. Critical Mistake #3 Not taking the time to carefully comb out nits A lot of people think that the lice treatment alone will do the trick. And they just apply the product, wait f a couple of days, and of course, lice are still there. Other people do know that they need to comb nits out; however, they still do not take the time to comb ALL nits out. Sometimes they believe that there is no issue if there are some nits left, and sometimes people just have a very limited amount of time and do their best, but in both cases it is a critical mistake. Combing all live nits out is crucial to avoid re-infestation. If there are even a few nits left, they will hatch, and if one of the newly hatched lice is a female and the other one a male, the female, once an adult, will lay eggs, and the child will be infested again. Copyright 2011 HeadLiceCenter.com - All Rights Reserved. - 4 -

This is why it is really imptant to be combing out nits until there are no me left in the hair. From day 1 of treatment, you have 7 days to perfm this task befe the most recently laid nits hatch. It is however better to manage to get all nits out on day 1 and day 2 of treatment, to really avoid a re-infestation. Critical Mistake #4 Treating head lice when you are not sure, as a precaution A lot of people are panicked about head lice. When they receive the school notice of a lice infestation, when they accidentally discover that their child has lice, they start thinking that the whole family has it and their head starts itching like crazy. Sounds familiar? And many mothers start treating the whole family without being sure at all that all family members have lice, and without even checking each family member s head. This is a crucial mistake. Of course, if you are using harmless home remedies such as olive oil vinegar on someone who is not infested with lice, you can t really do any damage. But if you are using a commercial lice shampoo that contains pesticides, this can be harmful f the health of the person treated. These products can have dangerous side-effects. Meover, they are totally ineffective at preventing head lice. You should only treat head lice once you have diagnosed a current infestation. Critical Mistake #5 Thinking you can put any product on your head It is quite common to be panicked with lice, and some people will put anything on their kids head on their own head in der to get rid of lice. This is a big mistake, because some products can have dangerous side-effects. First, it s imptant to know that you should not use any commercial lice treatment shampoo lotion repeatedly. You should also not use them together with other chemical products, after using other chemical products. Copyright 2011 HeadLiceCenter.com - All Rights Reserved. - 5 -

If your child has already been treated f lice with a product that contains pesticides and chemicals, if your child is currently on medication, if your child s bedding furnishings have been treated with an anti-lice spray, if pesticides like flea bombs have been used at home at school, if the child s caretaker mother is pregnant, breastfeeding nursing, if the child the caretaker / mother is suffering from asthma, allergies, cancer, any other disease your best bet is to treat the infestation with natural, non-chemical products and home remedies. In any of the above cases, you should always seek medical advice. Conclusion Thank you f taking the time to read this rept, and we hope you ve found it useful. It s intentionally sht because when dealing with lice, time is an imptant fact. By reading and understanding these simple mistakes you ll greatly increase your chances of success with lice treatment. You ll also reduce the probabilities to unintentionally apply harmful products to your children s heads ( yours).
