BONDERM 10 OLIVE (CETEARYL GLUCOSIDE, SORBITAN OLIVATE)
BONDERM 10 OLIVE This product, based on olive oil, is able to form particularly fresh and light O/W emulsions that are pleasantly velvety to the touch and enriched with the eudermic functional properties of precious Italian olive oil. The INCI name of BONDERM 10 OLIVE is Cetearyl Glucoside (and) Sorbitan Olivate. BONDERM 10 OLIVE creates liquid crystal lamellar structures regardless of the chemical structure and polarity of the substances present in the internal phase of the emulsion. The great versatility of this product is of considerable interest. It is able to create systems that are organized in liquid crystal lamellar phases without the help of other co-emulsifiers, regardless of the composition of the internal phase. When present at the oil/water interface, the liquid crystals help give the system rigidity and, by limiting the fluctuation of the components at the interface, give the emulsion great stability. Furthermore, the liquid crystal system enhances the moisturizing ability of the emulsion. In this special network, the quantity of inter-lamellar water can be extremely high and become immediately available when the cream is applied to the skin. For these reasons, these emulsions have a shinny surface, a fresh and original feel and they leave a light and pleasant sensation on the skin. Very small quantities of BONDERM 10 OLIVE are sufficient to emulsify oils and other lipophile ingredients. It is possible to obtain stable emulsions that are easily water able and that offer moisturizing and emollient properties and a pleasant light and silky sensation even when they contain large quantities of oily substances. BONDERM 10 OLIVE responds to the current market trends by offering a natural, pure, non-animal-tested product with outstanding properties, whilst retaining its skin-feel benefits of smoothness and lightness with excellent spreadability. The product functions are self-emulsifying, self-bodying oil-in-water emulsifier offering distinct technical advantages: A wide range of cosmetics oils, including mineral, vegetable and silicone oils, can be used without affecting the stability of the emulsion. Creams and milks can be produced by simply adjusting the emulsifier concentration. The product is composed by very mild surfactants. Human patch tests have shown that the blend does not cause skin or eye irritation and no sensitising potential of the components has been demonstrated. Emulsions created with BONDERM 10 OLIVE have notable stability at high or low temperatures and good resistance to water thanks to the formation of a hydrophobic film on the surface. Product in procedure Mix the BONDERM 10 OLIVE in the heated water phase at 70 C under moderate stirring until a homogeneous dispersion is formed. Disperse the hydrocolloid in the heated aqueous phase at 75 C with moderate stirring. Add the heated oil phase to the aqueous phase under intensive stirring. Homogenise the mixture intensively t 60 C. Cool to 35 C whilst stirring moderately. Add heat-sensitive ingredients whilst stirring moderately and homogenise the mixture. Emulsions with ph values below 5 have a tendency to become unstable. This can be overcome by the use of suitable buffer systems. The stabilisation mechanism of formulations derived from BONDERM 10 OLIVE is based on the formation of distinct liquid crystalline structures in the water phase into which the oil phases is dispersed.
PRODUCT CHARACTERISTICS BONDERM 10 OLIVE is free of chemical impurities, solvents, ethylene oxide and dioxane. The emulsification energy input should be checked so as not to destroy the liquid crystalline phase. It is a flexible single oil-in-water emulsifier that permits the production of both creams and milks without needing an additional hydrophilic ethoxylated co-emulsifier. The percentage of use of BONDERM 10 OLIVE is 3-4% in milks or lotions and in creams 4-6% depending on the oil volume and characteristic. TOXICITY BONDERM 10 OLIVE has not been tested on animals. It has been tested in vitro (dermal and ocular) and on human skin (for primary potential irritation.). Results show that the use of this ingredient in cosmetic formulations is absolutely safe. This product can more easily be defined as a Peg free functionalized emulsifying system capable of forming particularly fresh and light O/W emulsions that are pleasantly velvety to the touch and enriched with the eudermic functional properties of precious Italian olive oil. BONDERM 10 OLIVE is able to form liquid crystal lamellar structures regardless of the chemical structure and polarity of the substances present in the internal phase of the emulsion. Under a microscope with polarised light their liquid crystal structure is quiet clear as the following photograph, taken at x 250, demonstrates. The great versatility of this product is of considerable interest. It is able to create systems that are organised in liquid crystal lamellar phases without the help of other coemulsifiers, regardless of the composition of the internal phase. Emulsions created with BONDERM 10 OLIVE have the following properties: Notable stability at high and low temperatures. Particularly shiny appearance, easy and pleasant to apply.

BONDERM 10 OLIVE FORMULATIONS
Formulations BONDERM 10 OLIVE BONDERM 10 OLIVE shows remarkable emulsifying properties with a wide range of fatty phase. Oils that are difficult to emulsify, such as vegetable oils and silicon oils do not pose any problems; quite the contrary, it is possible to formulate stable creams and lotions with a 100% vegetable origin and pleasant feel. The following formulations are here indicated in order to give general directions for the employment of BONDERM 10 OLIVE. Although they have been realised according to best information we owe, this does not exonerate the user from verifying their validity.
