Perfrmance Prep Perfrmance Hair Guidelines Yu will need: Hair brush/cmb Spray bttle filled with 3 parts water 1 part hairspray Extra hld gel (particularly if yur hair is naturally curly r frizzy) Hair elastics that clsely resemble the clr f yur hair Bbby pins that clsely resemble the clr f yur hair (pen and clsed) Extra hld hairspray ***Imprtant Ntes: *Dirty hair is easier t wrk with and will hld better than clean hair. If pssible, avid washing yur hair prir t a perfrmance Steps 1. Make a pnytail Yu may chse t wet yur hair and twel dry until damp r start the prcess with dirty dry hair Brush ut any tangles r knts Be sure t apply an anti-frizz prduct r cnditiner if yu have curly r naturally frizzy hair Begin t push the hair back frm the face using prduct t hld its shape Fr straight hair, spray the tp and under part f the hair with a spray bttle (this can be an almst empty pump hairspray bttle) that cntains abut 3 parts water and 1 part hairspray Fr curly hair, it is recmmended t use gel instead f water, as water tends t make the hair frizz mre. Apply a small amunt f gel t the palm and brush the hair back using yur fingers Using a brush r cmb, begin t push the hair straight back away frm the face while cntinuing t apply prduct Flip head ver and repeat t the underside f the head this time brushing the hair dwn Keeping yur head dwn and hair flipped, begin t pull the hair tgether int a pnytail anchring it straight ut frm the base f the neck This is imprtant fr placement f the bun Using a brush r cmb, push the bttm and sides dwn and int the gathered hair creating smth surfaces Use hairspray/gel t help keep the underside smth and bump free
Perfrmance Prep Flip head upright still keeping the bundled hair secure in yur hand and brush/cmb back the tp and sides again until smth Again, use hairspray/gel t help keep the tp smth and in place while cmbing Once all the hair is smth and pulled back in the crrect psitin (just able t be seen ver the tp f the head and centered), secure hair with a hair elastic that is similar t yur clr hair Gently tug the hair apart in tw sectins nce tied t secure it in place If hair bubbles when pulled, start the prcess again until it is smth and even Spray hairspray t all sides and g ver with a cmb t be sure it is smth Check t make sure yur nw tightly secured pnytail is in the crrect psitin: Lk straight in the mirrr with the chin level, if yu can see the tp f the elastic and just a little bit f hair befre it falls ver the back, yu are ready fr part 2. If yu can t see yur elastic, yur bun will end up t lw, if yu can see mre than just the elastic and a little hair, yur bun will end up t high. Channel yur inner Gldilcks 2. Make a bun If starting the prcess with dry hair, spray yur secured pnytail with the spray bttle cntaining water and hairspray until damp Brush ut the hair until smth The thickness f yur hair will determine which way t cnstruct the bun If yu have very thick hair, divide the pnytail int tw parts and twist each part separately If yu have thinner hair, keep the pnytail tgether and begin t twist it in ne piece Keep twisting the hair until taut and begin t wrap the hair arund the elastic in a FLAT circle securing the hair with pins alng the way Use yur ther hand nt ccupied by the twisted hair t keep the bun as flat t yur head as pssible Cntinue twisting and pinning until all f the hair is secured tightly Check t make sure yur nw secured bun is at the crwn f the head Lk straight in the mirrr with the chin level; can yu see just the very tp frnt edge f yur bun? If yu can see mre than the frnt edge sticking up, yur bun may nt be flat enugh r yur pnytail was t high t start. If yu can t see the tp edge, yur bun may nt be flat enugh r yur pnytail was t lw t start
Perfrmance Prep Spray the hair with hairspray and spray r pin dwn any layers f hair that culd ptentially start t cme lse This is cmmn with layered hair s be tentative t the fact that nce the hair dries it will begin t stick ut if nt pinned prperly Cmb back any bumps and add clsed bbby pins t areas that need extra security This can include shrter side hairs and hairs near the back f the neck 3. Pass the shake test Yu guessed it, give yur head a gd shake and make sure n hairs cme ut and that yur bun is secured tightly t yur head! Perfrmance Make-up Guidelines Yu will need: Oil-free misturizer Fundatin: 2 tnes Fundatin applicatr (brush, spnge) Cncealer/highlighter Pwder Eyeshadw: dark brwn and crème clrs Eyeliner: brwn Mascara: black r brwn Blush: mre neutral rse clr (n ht pink r blush that cntains sparkles r glitter) Lipstick: neutral clr (ne shade darker than yur natural lip clr) Make-up brushes if pssible get natural hair brushes as they tend t wrk better and last lnger (yu can get these fr cheap at any craft stre that sells paint supplies) Make-up remval wipes/disslvent saps ***Imprtant Ntes: *Befre beginning this prcess, be sure yu are wearing a shirt that is easily remvable withut cnflicting with yur face r hair (i.e. zip-up jacket, tank tp etc.) Als, dn t wear any clthing yu d nt wish t get cvered in makeup and/r pwder when starting this prcess. Be sure yu are thinking ahead.
Perfrmance Prep *Make sure yur hair is perfrmance ready befre applying yur makeup t help keep it ut f yur face and t avid smudging and streaking while using water-based prducts n yur hair. *Always apply make-up in gd lighting cnditins t avid streaks and uneven tnes. *Avid using glitter r make-up prducts that include glitter r unnaturally bright clrs. Stage makeup is meant t make yur natural features stand ut frm far away. Adding extra shine t yur stage makeup can make yur features lk unnatural frm stage. *Prper remval f stage make-up is just as imprtant as the prcess f applying it. Be sure t purchase gd makeup wipes, disslvent saps etc. Regular sap and water will nt be enugh especially fr waterprf make-up Makeup Applicatin Steps 1. Prep yur face: Wash yur face with a gd facial cleanser and twel dry Apply il-free misturizer t entire face and allw time t dry Apply lip misturizer (chapstick, vaseline etc) 2. Apply fundatin: Using a triangular makeup spnge (fund fr cheap at any drugstre) r a fundatin brush, apply fundatin t the entire face blending it int the hairline Fr light t medium skin tnes, fundatin clr shuld be ne shade darker than yur natural clr Fr dark skin tnes, fundatin clr shuld be the same shade as yur natural clr Apply fundatin ne shade lighter t the cheekbnes and abve the upper lip Be sure t blend these areas thrughly s there are n harsh lines and the tw clrs fade int each ther 3. Apply cncealer/highlighter Apply cncealer/highlighter t the under part f yur eye blending int the fundatin
Perfrmance Prep Apply cncealer/highlighter t the entire upper eyelid (this is everywhere yu can feel yur eyeball under yur eyelid) 4. Apply blush Apply cheek clr n the apple f the cheek in an inverted triangle shape The apple f yur cheek is the part that prtrudes the mst when yu smile say cheese! Again, blend everything s there are n harsh lines f clr If yu have blnde r very light clred hair and light clred skin, lightly apply blush t the upper hairline blending it well int the fundatin and hair line 5. Apply pwder Lightly pwder the entire face first by using a brush and then using a puff r clean makeup spnge t press pwder int the highlighted areas (except the upper eyelids) Skipping this step will result in the make-up streaking, particularly the highlighter nce yu begin t sweat and are under ht stage lights 6. Apply eyeshadw Using a crease brush, apply a dark brwn eyeshadw clr t the crease f the eye starting near (but nt in) the crner f the eye and sweeping ver t the edge. If yu can t see the clr when yur eye is pen, apply mre and make the strke thicker Apply crème clred eyeshadw t the eyelid and just abve the crease using a blending brush D nt apply any eye shadw n r near the brw bne Blend the crème clr int the dark brwn crease clr until there are n harsh lines 7. Apply eyeliner and mascara Using brwn waterprf eyeliner pencil, make a thin sweeping line directly under yur bttm lash line extending it beynd the edge f the eye and slightly curving it up twards yur eyebrw The end f the curve shuld stp befre the end f the eyebrw D nt apply eyeliner t the upper lash line Apply 2-3 cats f black r brwn waterprf mascara If needed, use a eye pencil r eye shadw and a thin brush t fill in eyebrws using shrt hair like strkes
Perfrmance Prep If yu have very light hair and light skin, use a light t medium brwn eye shadw r eye pencil t lightly fill in eyebrws 8. Apply lipstick Use a lip pencil t utline the lips (ptinal) Apply a lipstick shade that is ne clr darker than yur natural lip clr NO RED LIPS (unless specified as part f a rle) 9. Finishing Tuches Pwder the face again using a brush r spnge and lightly mist with hairspray t set Pwder and re-apply make-up as needed thrughut the shw Be sure t allw time fr all make-up t dry t yur face befre putting n cstumes Wash yur hands when yu are finished as t nt get makeup n clthing, cstumes, tights etc.
