PRE-MILKING ROUTINE Strip, Foam, Wipe, Apply The importance of an effective premilking routine is well proven but what are we trying to achieve? Firstly, we need to fore-milk to check for clinical (clot) signs of mastitis, but also to purge the teat canal of old milk that has remained in there since the last milking and been exposed to any pathogens that entered through the teat orifice after the last milking and could contribute to a raised bactoscan. Next, we need to apply a foaming teat dip that: 1: Cleans highly effectively 2: Disinfects the teats very quickly 3: Is easy to remove After wiping with a dry paper towel, attach the clusters. Sometimes we are challenged on the time involved in the process above so to explain The milk let-down process typically takes a minute and a half. An effective stimulation of the cow preattachment of clusters will result in a linear milk flow curve, a faster milkout and corresponding reduced cluster-on time. (Graph 1) Graph 1 Cleaner, Faster Milk The Cotswold PureFoaming system can help to optimise the milking routine. The graph above shows that with a stimulation of the cow 60-90 seconds before attaching the cluster, the cow lets down milk faster. One minute preparation equaled two minutes quicker milking time with a net result of one minute per cow reduced milking time. (Source: Precision milking, DVM Dan Humphries & DVM Tom Greenham). Why NOT iodine pre-milking? Iodine needs 5 minutes to effectively kill the targeted pathogens however, because pre-dips are wiped-off usually in less than a minute, we are removing the product before it has time to work. This means that combined pre/post teat dips and sprays are a huge compromise and sub-optimal best-practice. KENOPURE Foaming Dip VMD registered (EN1656) medicinal pre-dip Fast acting disinfection with minimal 30 seconds contact time Concentrated Lactic acid-based Contains Glycerine for improved teat condition Contains Eucalyptus oil Very cost-effective in use

Key Features of Kenopure Cost-effective, concentrated product Contains high quality surfactants to Contains Lactic Acid to disinfect teats Contains Glycerine and eucalyptus oil Can be foamed, sprayed or used through robotic brush systems Key Benefits to the Cow Exceptional teat cleaning Fast, effective teat disinfection Maintains and improves teat skin condition Kenopure is a concentrated lactic acid-based foaming teat dip which is extremely economical in use due to its concentration level when mixed with water. Around 2ml of Kenopure per cow is used per milking when foamed, (10ml when sprayed) compared with a typical 15ml,with a free iodine-based pre-spray

POST MILKING DIPS AND SPRAYS IODINE Due to the use of active or free iodine, some iodine-based teat dips can be unstable in formulation, resulting in fast degeneration of the available iodine. To counter this, they include, very high initial levels of iodine. However, such high levels can be aggressive on teats so to counteract this, high levels of emollients are added to aid skin condition. Unfortunately, these levels work to reduce the efficacy of the available iodine. Our range of iodine-based teat dips are formulated differently, to avoid this vicious circle. Our entire range of iodine teat dips contain a unique, patented iodine complex which is proven and certified to be stable in formulation for an extended period. This means that an optimum and non-aggressive level of 3,000 ppm can be included alongside optimum levels of quality emollients. This formulation means that a ph of 5.2 is achieved which also contributes to excellent teat condition. KENODIN Spray and Dip formulation for flexibility in the parlour 3,000 ppm iodine - Optimised for non-aggressive action High level of quality emollients to maintain and improve teat condition Available in 25l, 200l and 1,000l IBC Also available as a VMR registered product (Kenostart) KENODIN FILM True barrier formulation containing 3,000 ppm iodine Easily applied through dipping cups Second Skin technology Contains Sorbitol and Glycerine for excellent teat condition Extremely high viscosity making it suitable for drying-off

POST MILKING DIPS AND SPRAYS CHLORHEXIDINE Chlorhexidine has a mode of action that disrupts bacteria cells by damaging their cell membrane. It has two key properties. Firstly, it is non-irritating which has a positive effect on teat condition. Secondly, it has a residual effect, resulting in an extended period of kill after the teats are dipped which is crucial to ensure teats are protected between milking's. Chlorhexidine dips are generally ph neutral so again are favourable in situations where maintenance of teat condition is important or where current skin condition needs to be improved. OUR CHLORHEXIDINE TEAT DIP RANGE KENOCIDIN Spray and dip formulation for flexibility in the parlour 5 mg/g Chlorhexidine digluconate for fast, effective pathogen kill Very high level of emollients to maintain and improve teat condition Available in 25l, 200l and 600l IBC Medicinally registered in the UK Contains Menthae arvensis for its teat conditioning and antiinflammatory properties KENOMINT Spray and Dip formulation for flexibility in the parlour 5 mg/g Chlorhexidine digluconate for fast, effective pathogen kill Very high level of emollients to maintain and improve teat condition Contains Menthae arvensis for its teat conditioning and antiinflammatory properties Suitable where a 1,000l IBC is needed on-farm

POST MILKING DIPS AND SPRAYS LACTIC ACID Lactic acid-based teat dips are well known for a few key features that bring measurable benefits to dairy cows. Firstly, Lactic acid is an extremely fast, broad spectrum germicide. This means that it acts quickly to kill the bacteria that might infect the teat. It is also highly effective on viruses. Secondly, despite being an acid, in the correct formulation, lactic acid is not aggressive to teats. SPECIFIC USE OF LACTIC ACID TEAT DIPS, IN THE SUMMER The formulation of our own KENOLAC makes it the ideal choice for summer use, where some important features are needed. Contains Lactic acid for excellent germicidal activity against bacteria and viruses Includes covering agents to enhance the residual action on the teat skin Registered and approved in the UK as a fly repellant dip Contains sunscreen, protecting teats from exposure Organic approved (EC 834/2007) Available in spray and dip formulations Available in 25l, 200l and 1,000l IBC

POST MILKING DIPS AND SPRAYS CHLORINE-DIOXIDE KENOMIX is our unique Chlorine Dioxide post milking product. Chlorine Dioxide is the most recently introduced active ingredient for teat disinfection and has a mode of action that controls pathogens using a gas, released on use. Chlorine Dioxide dips are the most popular type used in the USA and there are several Chlorine Dioxide products available in the UK, all of which need to be activated (mixed) before use however, most of these become unstable once mixed which means that the Chlorine Dioxide levels drop fast. These products can be identified by the use of a second active ingredient to give some level of kill beyond the working life of the Chlorine Dioxide. Kenomix differs because it is stable throughout its 26 day life once-mixed. PREPARING KENOMIX Spray & Dip Preparing Kenomix. 1. Mix the activator with Kenomix in its drum 2. Agitate 3. Leave for TWO hours after mixing Just two hours after mixing, Kenomix is ready-to-use as a solution producing a median value of 0.0157% w/w of chlorine dioxide over the full 26 days of activity. Kenomix has been formulated to generate a stable amount of chlorine dioxide. No other active ingredient needs to be added to produce the required efficacy. Kenomix is the first chlorine dioxide based teat dip that isn t aggressive on the skin and is proven to improve teat condition. The high percentage of emollients (10%) ensures excellent teat skin condition.

Plant Hygiene & Cleaning DM CID & PHOCID The CID LINES traditional range of liquid detergents is well proven in the field. DM CID (chlorinated, alkaline cleaner and detergent and cleaner) and PHO CID (acid descaler, used in conjunction with DM CID) offer a simple, effective solution to plant cleaning and disinfection. *New For 2018* As well as offering traditional Alkaline and Acid plant and equipment cleaning products, Pearce Dairy are pleased to introduce brand new for 2018, DM Clean Forte. DM Clean Forte will effectively replace both acid and alkaline in your plant cleaning system, due to the alkaline-base removing fat deposits and EDTA removing milkstone and calcium deposits. All of this is achievable at low temperature, helping to reduce costs of water heating and reducing potential damage to rubber and silicone with high temperature water. This advancement is tried and tested in the stringent food hygiene industry and brings a genuine leap forward for our dairies. Get in touch with one of the team for help in an effective transition to this new way of thinking.

Robotic Milking The growth in installations of robotic milking systems on farms continues apace. The benefits of consistency, repeatability and accuracy that a well-designed robotic system offers can transform performance however a cornerstone of any systems continued success is the quality of the ongoing hygiene and resulting milk quality. The CID Lines range of robotic system chemicals is optimised for the systems and manufacturers that are commonplace in the UK and Europe. DM Super Clean is a strong alkaline cleaner, ideal for milking robots. Topical Wound Disinfection For decades, the go-to product for topical application to wounds and other areas of damaged skin has been the trusty can of purple spray from the vet. This has remained constant through both name and colour changes to the product however these types of topical sprays still contain an antibiotic; part of the reason why they have been so successful over the years. A logical question however is, why use an antibiotic spray in situations where there is no infection? When a wound could potentially result in an infection, an antibiotic preparation should quite rightly be considered, however in many cases, particularly where the wound or tissue is fresh and uncontaminated (e.g. navels) or as a result of surgery, (e.g. disbudding), an alternative treatment might be considered. Kenofix A Brand New Solution Kenofix is a bright blue topical aerosol spray that is used in many species including cattle, sheep, pigs and horses. Kenofix does not contain an antibiotic and instead uses a powerful disinfectant Chlorocresol, which is used successfully in many applications worldwide. Available in large 300ml cans, Kenofix is mixed with the propellant so that it sprays reliably at any angle until the last drop. Once applied, Kenofix dries fast forming a breathable, robust disinfecting second skin that allows the wound to heal quickly. It also contains Bitrex which acts as a repellent to the animal and other animals if they attempt to lick the wound. Examples of applications that Kenofix can be used for include: Disbudding Post-operative situations (e.g. caesarean operations) Navels Ram butting wounds Damaged tails (e.g. piglets) Has been used as a topical treatment for digital dermatitis lesions in cattle Key Features of Kenofix include: Contains a powerful disinfectant Forms a breathable, polymer-based second skin Large volume aerosol spray can Reliable spray performance to the last drop Contains Bitrex licking deterrent Visible bright blue spray Contains tea tree oil

Calf Health and Hygiene Bio security in all areas of dairy farms is of huge importance and one area of particular focus must always be calf housing. All housing and equipment should be cleaned following each batch of calves and it is crucial that all calves are removed from the building during the cleaning and disinfection process. This is because the potential for transmission of disease during the process is very high. Every area should be thoroughly cleaned out and pressure washed, paying attention to all areas of the housing and equipment. Cleaning should be followed by disinfection before being allowed to dry. Once all areas are dry, an approved disinfectant such as Kenocox which has high efficacy and activity on coccidia and cryptosporidia, is recommended. KENOCOX Kenocox is a broad spectrum disinfectant which is effective against excreted endoparasites (e.g. Eimeria spp, Cryptosporidium parvum) and bacteria. Kenocox helps to reduce infection pressure in animal houses and can be applied onto all kinds of surface. Kenocox is a unique formula (patent pending) without phenol, safe for users and animals. Kenocox is available in 10 litre and 1 litre pack sizes. VIROCID Virocid is a concentrated disinfectant with a synergistic composition of four active ingredients and is effective at very low dilutions (0.25 0.50%) against ALL micro-organisms; bacteria, viruses, fungi and spores. It is hospital grade according to EPA registration in the USA. VIROCID has a long residual action and can be applied in a variety of ways; spraying, fogging or foaming, and can be applied on a variety of surfaces; foot dips, vehicles and equipment.

Calf Health and Hygiene BIOGEL Biogel represents a new approach for efficient cleaning.
