Sclerotherapy Treatment Instructions Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive procedure performed to treat uncomplicated spider veins. The treatment involves the injection of a solution of Asclera into the affected veins causing them to collapse on themselves. Over time, the damaged veins are replaced with tissue. Individual results may vary. Many patients require multiple injection sessions for complete treatment success. Unfortunately, results are not instantaneous. It takes time for the veins to disappear. In fact, it is common and quite probable that the veins will look worse before getting better. Bruising at or near the injection or along the course of the vein is common. The bruising can be black and blue marks which eventually turn yellowish, or the bruising may be in the form of red marks. Small welts similar to mosquito bites may occur at the injection sites as well. All of these results are common and quite normal. Bruising typically fades in a week but can take longer. After bruising goes away, considerable fading of the veins often occurs. In some cases the veins may be gone completely; however, it may take up to 6-8 weeks for veins to fade to the maximum amount. A treatment should not be considered unsuccessful unless there is no significant improvement after 8 weeks. Rarely ulcerations can occur. noted.
