TXJ3E Hairstyling and Aesthetics, Grade 11, Workplace Preparation Name: This job enables employees to demonstrate practical application of their skills in cosmetology and in providing services for a diverse clientele. Employees will identify trends in the hairstyling and aesthetics industry, understand related health and safety laws, and continue to expand their communication and interpersonal skills through interactions with peers and clients. Employees may also have considered environmental and societal issues related to the industry, and may be familiar with apprenticeships and direct-entry work positions. Demonstrate your skills in hairstyling and aesthetics by: Briefly outline 2 beauty fashion trends and the methods used to achieve them; - selecting, preparing, and safely applying health and beauty products on a live model or mannequin. Explain why hairstyling and aesthetics services are important to society, and identify 2 ways in which social and cultural factors affect the industry;

Use correct terminology to discuss 2 of the properties of hair, skin or nails; Explain the difference between hypoallergenic and natural products; Describe the importance of teamwork and interpersonal skills in hairstyling and aesthetic careers; Explain 2 of the environmental and health issues related to various products used in the hairstyling and aesthetics industry;

Describe 2 key aspects of the laws, regulations, and regulatory bodies that oversee the hairstyling and aesthetics industry; Identify two training opportunities and educational requirements related to careers in hairstyling and aesthetics.

TXJ4E Hairstyling and Aesthetics, Grade 12, Workplace Preparation Name: This job enables employees to develop increased proficiency in a wide range of hairstyling and aesthetics services. Working in a salon/spa team environment, employees will have strengthened their fundamental cosmetology skills and grown in their understanding of common business practices and strategies in the salon/spa industry. Employees will also be aware of environmental and societal issues and explore lifelong learning opportunities and career trends in the hairstyling and aesthetics industry. Choose one of the following to demonstrate your skills in hairstyling and aesthetics: Identify and describe two diseases or disorders relating to the hair, skin, or nails; Apply hair colour according to client needs Competently perform services that chemically alter the structure of hair (ie. permanent waves, sort curl perms) Perform a fashion cut that accentuates the client s best features by using advanced shaping techniques. Use appropriate skin treatments for specific client needs

Describe how to apply colour theory concepts of warm and cool shades in planning and performing hairstyling and aesthetics services; Describe the difference between acid and alkaline levels as they relate to 2 hair or skin products; Identify 2 important requirements of professional ethics and customer relations in the hairstyling and aesthetics industry and explain the legal and business implications of non-compliance with these requirements;

Identify 2 of the business procedures involved in operating and/or opening a business in the hairstyling and aesthetics industry; Describe how you effectively resolved a conflict with a difficult client; Explain the importance of customer service; Explain why regular exercise and good nutrition are important for maintaining healthy hair, skin and nails and personal wellness;

Explain how WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) relates to the hair and aesthetics industry; Use safe and sanitary work practices to prevent the spread of pathogens and protect your health and that of others; Briefly outline the process to legally register a salon business.

Employees may have worked with a broad variety of clients and have developed a good knowledge of the skin; administered a variety of skin cleansing treatments; and have excellent communication skills. They will also have studied industry standards; considered health and safety issues; and explored careers, and lifelong learning opportunities in aesthetics. Employees will have worked with a broad variety of clients and have developed a good knowledge of hair and scalp conditions; provided basic treatment or advice on beauty care treatments for scalp and hair; and applied hair extensions. They will also have studied industry standards; consider health and safety issues; and explore careers, and lifelong learning opportunities in hairstyling. How long have you worked in this industry?
