Fashion Show Judging Judging Tips and Interview Questions (Juniors, Intermediates, and Seniors) Judging Tips: Being a fair, objective, and effective judge is hard work. Each participant will be interviewed by a panel of judges. We appreciate your willingness to give your time and expertise to judge the accomplishments of the young people entered in the District 12 4 H Fashion Show. Here are some tips to help you judge the contest. 1. Know the purpose of the Fashion Show and the requirements for the division you are to judge. You should receive information about this ahead of the day you are to judge and/or at an orientation session just prior to judging. 2. Know the current fashion trends for children and teens. 3. Compare participant s appearance/accomplishments to score sheet, not to other 4 H ers. 4. Score positively. Give credit for work done rather than looking for faults that can reduce the score. 5. Write both strengths and weaknesses in the comments area. Be specific. These comments are used to give guidance to the 4 H member in future projects. 6. Initial your score sheet in the lower right corner. This allows us to return the card to you when we are tabulating if you have overlooked recording a score or in case of a tie. 7. You will note that the questions to be asked are on the score sheet. Please ask each participant every question, so do not spend too much time on one question. Limit individual interviews to 5 6 minutes. You should not spend more than 10 minutes on any participant, including interview, scoring, and comments. JUNIOR & INTERMEDIATE Judging Information Judges will ask only those questions listed on the score sheet. Participants should be able to answer them effectively. JUNIOR & INTERMEDIATE Sample Interview Questions Buying Division 1. How many years have you studied shopping skills in your clothing project? 2. Where will you wear this outfit?

SENIORS Judging Information Each participant will be interviewed by a panel of judges. The participants must be sure to know the eligibility requirements for the division and category they have entered, be able to answer questions about their clothing project and worksheet, and understand the characteristics of the fiber and fabric used in their garment. The sample questions below are only examples to help the participants prepare for their interview. The judges are not instructed to ask these exact questions and may ask the participant questions that are not on this list. SENIOR Sample Interview Questions 1. What is the fiber content of your garment? Tell me two qualities of each fiber. 2. Are the fibers used in your garment natural or man made? What are their generic names? 3.
