MARINE ERASER FOR AGING LINES v1
ATTRACTIVE AGING Products with anti-aging benefits o The world population is aging, individuals are living longer. 4500 4000 3500 3000 o Visible signs of aging are still a major concern among customers, hence, the number of products with anti-aging benefits are increasing worldwide. 2500 2000 1500 1000 500 0 2009 2010 2011 2012 Middle East & Africa Latin America North America Europe o Due to external and internal factors skin worsens when aging, resulting in noticeable changes especially in certain delicate areas. FACIAL LIPSTICK LINES o Lips and surrounding skin are a magnetic facial area, being a special aging target. o The vertical lines that appear between the nose and upper lip, are known as lipstick or smoker lines. o Aging causes skin alterations mainly responsible for the development of such lines, leading to firmness, elasticity, thickness, volume and hydration loss.
LIPSTICK LINES CONCERN Products treating lipstick lines and wrinkles 700 600 500 400 300 200 o Lipstick lines and perioral wrinkles are increasing concerns among customers, mainly in Europe and North America. 100 0 2009 2010 2011 2012 Source: Mintel GNPD, January 2013
MARINE SOURCE PROPOSAL o Marine ecosystems are home to a wide diversity of organisms. o Bacteria have the capacity to excrete active Extracellular Polymeric Substances (ECPSs) which optimize their survival in extreme habitats. oin the Antarctic (subzero temperatures and darkness) and intertidal shores (drastic changes in limiting factors), Pseudoalteromonas bacteria are found with the capacity to synthesise Glycoproteins (GPs) and Exopolysaccharides (EPSs). o Both compounds are potentially beneficial for skin care.
BACTERIAL ECPSs FUNCTIONALITIES Glycoproteins o polypeptides linked to oligosaccharides o participate in cellular communication and adhesions o related to Glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) and polysaccharides, key compounds of the Extracellular Matrix (ECM) Exopolysaccharides o varied glucydic polymers o protect by influencing hydration, nutrition, cell unions and interactions, o may resemble GAGs and Hyaluronic Acid (HA), attracting and retaining water molecules Their benefits translate into skin protection and higher tonicity and firmness, as well as hydration and volume support
SEACODE o Biotechnology involves the use of living organisms to obtain natural molecules for a specific use, without altering natural environments. o This new active ingredient contains ECPSs obtained through biotechnology from Pseudoalteromonas bacteria inhabiting extremely difficult marine environments (intertidal shores and the Antarctic). Enhances in vitro synthesis of key dermal proteins (collagen). Ameliorates skin roughness after 1 and 4 weeks, in vivo. Reduces aging signs and rejuvenates facial aspect.
IN VITRO EFFICACY Type I collagen induction Human Dermal Fibroblasts (HDFa) were grown until confluence, seeded into plates and incubated for 24 h at 37 ºC. Then, fresh medium with Seacode was added and plates were incubated for 48 h. A sample of the collected medium or a standard curve prepared with type I collagen was analysed by an ELISA, reading absorbance values at 490 nm in a microtiter plate reader. Seacode raised type I collagen synthesis by more than 100% Values were statistically significant at all concentrations.
IN VIVO EFFICACY (I) Quantitative evaluation of skin roughness 20 female volunteers (35-50 years old). Cream with 2% Seacode on the facial skin above the upper lip, twice a day, for 4 weeks. The depth of the wrinkles (R z ) was examined by means of PRIMOS technique, representing the average values. Skin roughness was reduced by Seacode in just 1 week Statistically significant reductions in the upper lip wrinkles depth after 1 and 4 weeks.
IN VIVO EFFICACY (II) Dermatological evaluation 10 female volunteers (35-50 years old). Cream with 2% Seacode on the facial skin above the upper lip twice a day for 4 weeks. Real images were taken with a digital camera. Visible decrease of lipstick lines and rejuvenating effect with Seacode
COSMETIC BENEFITS Reduction of the upper lip lines after 1 week Rejuvenated skin from the sea Induction of collagen I
FINAL BENEFITS/FINAL PRODUCTS CLAIMS Fills in vertical lines to redefine the lip contour Helps repair skin around the lip area Fine lines above the lips are smoothed, rejuvenating the facial look Anti-aging ingredient to diminish appearance of fine lines above the lips Correction action on wrinkles, fine lines and firmness in the perioral area
TECHNICAL INFORMATION DESCRIPTION Active ingredient obtained through biotechnology from Pseudoalteromonas bacteria inhabiting extremely difficult environments. Seacode helps reduce the facial wrinkles associated with the aging process by increasing collagen I. APPEARANCE Transparent solution containing 25.625% active ingredient. INCI Water (Aqua), Pseudoalteromonas Ferment Extract, Salicylic Acid, Citric Acid, Sodium Salicylate. Paraben free. PROPERTIES Seacode highly enhances the synthesis of dermal proteins (like collagen) and visibly reduces the roughness of the lines above the upper lip induced by aging in the short and long term, rejuvenating facial look. APPLICATIONS Seacode can be incorporated in facial formulations especially designed to minimise the appearance of lipstick lines but also in anti-aging treatments. DOSAGE 2%
