LOBBY ART GALLERY EXHIBIT ART GALLERY PRESENTS INDIGENOUS ART EXHIBIT SEPTEMBER 21 to DECEMBER 16, 2017

INDIGENOUS ART EXHIBIT 2017 Welcome to the Pumphouse Theatre s Indigenous Art Exhibit. The Pumphouse Theatre Society recognizes the historically Indigenous territory of the Blackfoot, Stoney, Tsiit ina, Kainai and Metis Nations in which we live and work. These nations are the original stewards of this land, and we look forward to working together in peace and reconciliation. With gratitude, we are pleased to feature the diverse work of three Indigenous visual artists from a wide range of backgrounds and styles of work. It is our honour to host these innovative artists in our historic building. It is the Pumphouse Theatre s ongoing goal to provide a venue for increased exposure to local artists, as well as provide an enhanced experience for our theatre patrons. If you are interested in purchasing a piece, please contact Kelly Malcolm, Programming Director, at kelly@pumphousetheatre.ca Thank you to all the artists who are a part of the Indigenous Art Exhibit. We could not be more thrilled to be showcasing your amazing pieces of art. Kelly Malcolm Programming Director Cover Photo: Deloria Many Grey Horses Next Generation Thank you to our funders!

SHELLEY ROSE MAY Shelley Rose May, otherwise known on social media as The Metis Mamma, is a self-taught mixed media artist of Cree and Scottish descent originally from Prince Albert, Saskatchewan but who has called Calgary, Alberta her home for over 25 years. After taking on the responsibility of raising a family members children Shelley resigned her position as a Support Worker at Hull Services to become a full time stay at home mom. To keep her boys entertained she began crafting and experimenting with arts and crafts and soon fell in love with mixed media because of the variety of mediums you can work with. 2016 was a difficult year for Shelley and her family. First her mother passed away then a few short months later she was diagnosed with Cervical Cancer, in which she had surgery and is now cancer free. She now considers her health issue a blessing. She realized she created her own illness by her own self destructive thoughts and decided to take her health back and by healing herself and others through her art.
