As part of the HOLLYWOOD CYCLE, Ghislaine Rayer and Patrice Gaulupeau orchestrate a retrospective dedicated to Steve McQueen on two levels) that the life story of the American icon Steve McQueen takes place. Some people know him as a bounty hunter, a police officer, a mercenary, a prisoner, or a business man. Yet, Steve McQueen is not only an immense star of the small and big screen, he is also a symbolic figure of Hollywood cinema. This exhibition allows visitors to discover him from different perspectives.
PRoGRAM Steve McQueen Bridgemanimages MOVIE STAR: CINEMA PICTURES AND FILM POSTERS Discovered at the end of the 1950s in a TV series, Wanted: Dead or Alive, Steve McQueen, endowed with the planetary success of the show, establishes himself in films in 1960 with his role in The Magnificent Seven by John Sturges. The latter directs him again in another international success, which will become a McQueen reference, The Great Escape. His cinematic career consists of 27 films in 24 years only. Irregular in quality, B movies and blockbusters alternate, the former being immediately forgotten when the latter make their way to the hall of fame of American cinema. Among these, we can quote The Towering Inferno, one of the first disaster movies, Papillon, where the Dustin Hoffman/Steve McQueen duo works wonders, and The Thomas Crown Affair, with the sublime Faye Dunaway. The most legendary remains Bullitt with its memorable car chase: 10 breathtaking minutes in the streets of San Fransisco.

This is the beginning of a passion for fine engineering. But being a collector is not enough, he wants to take part in races, a much more motivating perspective. He participates in many endures on bikes from many brands, with a preference for Triumphs. For cars, he even sees things bigger! To be part of Le Mans 24 Hours is his ultimate dream. It will become an obsession and the greatest vexation of his life. Considered the biggest Hollywood star in 1970, insurances forbid him to compete and it is with a heavy heart that he only produces and plays in his movie Le Mans, without being allowed to drive. Consuming passion which almost consumes him. Nearly ruined by the shooting costs when the movie does not meet with great success, Steve goes through a long period of doubts. His cinematic successes in the 1970s help him forget this uncompleted childhood dream. By the end of his life, Steve owns a collection of more than 150 cars and motorbikes.
