The Department of B.Sc Fashion and Apparel Design had the following events during the year 2015-16. The department had various events such as fashion show and an exhibition. We also organized workshops to expose students with various types of accessories and product development workshops to enlighten them with entrepreneur skills. B.Sc FAD I and III year students along with teachers visited an exhibition at Chitrakala Parishat on 17 th July 2015, Bangalore. The exhibition had stalls related to accessories, textiles, handmade products, wood sculptures, jute products and various other craft works. The textile counters had varieties like silk, cotton vegetable dyed textiles, embroidered stuffs, etc. Pottery products and brass sculptures were of special attraction. A three day certificate workshop on Art work was organized for B.Sc FAD I and II year students on 21 st,22 nd and 30 th July 2015. The work shop was conducted by Mrs. Meenakshi, the expert from Fevicryl Company. Students learned to make products such as tribal mural, glass painting, one stroke painting, jewellery making, saree pin using shilpkar, decorative furnishing accessory and appliqué work. Coco Chanel Friday the 14 th of August was a day of color, splendor, vibrance, scintillation and elegance for the students and staff of Baldwin women s Methodist College as they witnessed the Annual fashion feature Rang de 2015 organized and put up by the B.Sc. Fashion and Apparel design department. The show portrayed the designs of the budding designers of the 3 rd Bsc.FAD. The skillful efforts of the students were seen in the way they had sheared, stitched and embellished their garments to perfection. It was all about the toil for days
that had turned the ordinary into an extraordinary and beautiful design that were portrayed on stage. Design is a constant challenge to balance comfort with luxe, the practical with the desirable. Donna Karan The designers and their collection are as follows: Chaitra R Shankar Blue morphosis inspired by the blue morpho butterfly, Mazeerah Afzal Entwined Chic inspired by the definitive bond of braids, Annapurna K P Serseric hues inspired by the individuality punk culture, RitikaKumari Enamoured Elegance inspired by the colors and culture of Rajasthan, Divyashree S Classic Saga inspired by the rhythmic ever bobbling Tanjore Dolls, SoniKumari Mystifying Essence inspired by the Picasso of India, M.F Hussain, Ashwini G S Sculpted serenity inspired by the intricate Hoysala Architecture Fatima Nazifa MN Idyllic innocence inspired by the fairytale Rapunzel. All the above collections looked trendy, chic, perfect and full of life. They were well conceptualized and executed to the best possible creativity. They were judged by honorable judges- Mrs. Kaveri Bai, academician, Bangalore University, Mr. Bibi John {fashion entrepreneur} and Ms. Richa Mishra {Designer}. Special awards were given to the following collections. Chaitra R Shankar won the Best Accessorized collection, Divyashree. G won the most practical collection award. The jury special award was given to Ritika.G and finally the best design collection was bagged by Ashwini.G.S for her collection Sculpted Serenity. The show won the hearts of all and sundry.

This is the secret of success. -Swami Vivekananda A two day work shop on candle making and product development was oraganised for B.Sc FAD I, II and III year students on 8 th and 9 th January 2016. The workshop was conducted by Mrs.Kavitha Datt. Students learned to make wax candles, roses, wax dishes, savories and sweets, doll making and floating candles in the work shop. taught students was Mrs.Suma Subramanya. Students learnt to make Boat bags, mobile pouches, sling bags, ladies purse, bangle pouch, etc. Making of boat bags Making of sling bags The department organized the event V-CREATE 2016 an exhibition cum sale on 1 st and 2 nd February 2016. The products made for the exhibition was made by B.Sc FADI, II and III year students. The exhibition was organized at college Seminar hall. The theme chosen for V-CREATE 2016 was Halloween. The hall was arranged according to the theme. The exhibition was open for college student, school students and staff.

Sweat is the cologne of accomplishment. - Heywood Hale Broun The exhibition had products from different categories such as fabric wrapped books, decorative pens, hair clips, accessories, glass paintings, decorative diyas, furnishings, fridge magnets, frames, pen stands, keychains, gift boxes, paper bags, fabric bags, envelopes, wax products, glass candles, book marks, gift tags, fabric files, casual shirts, long and short kurthas, kitchen napkins, hot pots, fabric pouches, mobile pouches, cushion covers, aprons, etc. The crowd enjoyed shopping the products, and it was a good learning experience for B.Sc FAD students. On 19 th January 2016 the students of B.Sc FAD got an opportunity to do chapel service in the college. The theme chosen was our relationship with grandparents and grand children. Students depicted the concept by doing skits, choreography, video clips and power point presentations. Students were blessed with praises for doing a good chapel service. A guest lecture on career opportunities was organized for II and III B.Sc FAD students on 22 nd February and March 16 th 2016. The experts were Mr. Soma Sundaram and Mr. Akshay Gupta. Students got lot of information on job opportunities in various fields in textiles and fashion industry. The students are now aware the career opportunities required to prosper in different fields of their choice.

The B.Sc FAD department has always been a platform for making creative budding designers and a successful citizen ready to face future. All this happened only with Lord Almighty s support.
