Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed (2 Timothy 2:15) August 2011 Dear Parents/Guardians and Leaders, I hope you have had an enjoyable summer! As our children return to school, I am hopeful that many families are also planning to have their children return to an Awana Club at a local area church in our community. On behalf of the entire Awana Club leadership team at Calvary Bible Church, I would like to personally invite you and your family to the Calvary Bible Church Awana Clubs. I would also like to share with you what Awana Clubs are and provide you with specific information as it pertains to Awana Clubs at Calvary Bible Church. Please retain this letter and post it in an area that you can reference throughout the club year. It contains all the information you will need to know, including dates of special events and theme nights, weather related cancellation procedures, and much more! Awana Clubs is an international, nondenominational, Bible-centered youth organization providing weekday clubs and programs to various ages of children. In fact over 1,000,000 children attend an Awana Club in over 110 countries world wide each week. Children participate in memorizing and reciting scripture verses by working through their handbook, they learn important lessons during counsel time sessions, and most important (well, at least to the kids!) is a fun and exciting game time activity. Combine all this with special theme nights, the Awana Store, and activities like the Awana Grand Prix or Awana Games and you begin to get an idea of what Awana Clubs are all about! Calvary Bible Church offers the following Awana Clubs: Cubbies: Pre K (2 year club children participating for the first time this year would be attending Kindergarten in the fall of 2013) Sparks: Kindergarten 2 nd Grade Truth & Training: 3 rd 6 th Grade Awana Clubs meet at Calvary Bible Church located at 9 Three Points Garden Road, East Stroudsburg, PA 18301. Calvary Bible Church is located just off Route 447 in between Route 80 (Days Inn Hotel) and Business Route 209 (Wendy s Restaurant). The phone number to the church is (570) 421-6047 and the church website is www.cbcpoconos.org if you need further directions or assistance. The first official club night will be Wednesday September 14, 2011. We will devote this night to an orientation and information sharing session to fully explain what Awana Clubs are and what is expected of every participant. Parents are welcome to join us on this and every night. It is recommended that you arrive at 6:00 PM on Wednesday September 14, 2011 (first club night only) so that we may meet you and your children and have them register into the club they will be attending. This earlier arrival time will allow us to begin our Opening Ceremony on time (we begin each club promptly at 6:30 PM). Please find the 2011/2012 Awana Clubs Registration Form enclosed for you to fill out and bring on the first night of club (if you need to copy this form to perhaps share with family members, friends, neighbors, or co-workers, please do so). This will expedite the registration process. Awana Clubs meet every Wednesday night at 6:30 PM from September 14, 2011 through May 9, 2012, excluding holidays. Awana Clubs are broken down into four quarters of 8 weeks each quarter for a total of 32 club nights. Awana Clubs will not meet on Wednesday November 23, 2011 and Wednesday December 28, 2011. The quarterly breakdown:

1 st Quarter: September 14, 2011 to November 2, 2011 2 nd Quarter: November 9, 2011 to January 11, 2012 3 rd Quarter: January 18, 2012 to March 7, 2012 4 th Quarter: March 14, 2012 to May 2, 2012 End Of Year Awards Ceremony: May 9, 2012 6:00 PM Pot Luck Dinner (Italian Theme) - Bring Your Favorite Dish 6:45 PM End Of Year Awards Ceremony In Church Sanctuary Each quarter, all Clubbers are eligible to earn an attendance award. They do so by attending Awana Clubs 6 nights out of the 8 scheduled nights in each quarter. Clubbers may earn up to 4 attendance awards each club year. Inclement Weather Policy In the event that the East Stroudsburg School District is closed or dismissed early or after school and evening activities cancelled on a Wednesday for any reason, then Awana Clubs are also cancelled. Cancelled club nights will not be re-scheduled and club nights will not be added to the end of the year. Please plan on arriving to club every Wednesday at 6:15 PM (except the first club night, 6:00 PM please). This will ensure that every club begins promptly at the scheduled time. One Awana Share (Awana Dollar) will be given to every child arriving at club before the Opening Ceremony begins at 6:30 PM every Wednesday. Awana shares may be used at our Awana Store where the children may purchase goodies. The Awana Store will be held on the first Wednesday of October 2011, December 2011, February 2012, and April 2012. Awana Store will be available for the Sparks and Truth & Training Clubs only. It is preferred that all children wear appropriate attire and footwear to participate in game activities. We recommend that sneakers or game time appropriate footwear be worn so that all may participate, have fun, and enjoy a time of activity that is injury free. Cubbies, Sparks, and Truth & Training clubbers are able to earn individual awards throughout the club year. They may do so by completing required sections in their handbooks. Awards will be given to those clubbers wearing their Awana uniform. Therefore, it is very important that the children wear their uniform and bring their bible and handbook to club each night. Sparks and Truth & Training clubbers (only) are able to earn team awards each club night. Every child will be assigned a team color (blue, green, red, or yellow) where they can earn points for their team. Team points can be earned by: Attending Awana Club Each Wednesday Bringing A Bible Bringing Awana Club Handbook Wearing Awana Uniform At Check-In Time Bringing A Friend To Club For The First Time Completing A Section In Awana Club Handbook Proper Team Or Individual Behavior First Place In Game Time Second/Third/Fourth Place In Game Time 50 Points 20 Points 15 Points 10 Points 5 Points

These points will be tallied and announced at our Closing Ceremony held in the sanctuary each club night at 8:00 PM. All teams will receive an award with the winning team getting an extra special award. This is a very exciting part of our club and all parents are encouraged to come early (7:55 PM) to cheer your team on. This will also be helpful in that you or a member of your family will be available to receive your child or children upon dismissal. Sparks and Truth & Training will dismiss from the sanctuary immediately following the Closing Ceremony. The Cubbies group will dismiss from the upper education wing at approximately 8:00 PM. For the safety of all children, we ask that the children remain seated in these areas until a parent or designated guardian signs them out at the end of each night. Awana Club Rules The leadership team of Calvary Bible Church Awana Clubs is committed to the well being and safety of each child. It is with this goal in mind to make you aware of the club rules and procedures to help keep our club running smooth and in an organized manner: 1. Respectful language and good attitudes are always expected before, during, and after club. 2. Do not talk when someone else is talking. Be good listeners. 3. Take turns and share with others. 4. Do not make fun of others and always be helpful. 5. Care and respect will always be shown for one another and for the church property. 6. Pushing, shoving, or fighting of any kind are not allowed. 7. Running is allowed only on the Awana Game Circle during certain games. 8. Awana awards will only be presented to people who are wearing the Awana Uniform. The Awana Uniform must be complete and worn at all times. 9. Five Count: When a leader begins to loudly count 1 2 3 4 5, all talking and activity will cease before the count of 5 is reached. Everyone will then wait quietly for instructions from that Leader. Everyone must respect the 5 count. Parents: It is important to review the Awana Clubs rules with your children The Awana Clubs nightly schedule will be: Club Name Coming In Time Starting/Story Time Book Time Play Time/Snack Time Going Home Time Cubbies 6:15-6:45 PM 6:45-7:30 PM 7:30-7:50 PM 7:50-8:10 PM 8:10-8:15 PM Cubbies Will Dismiss Upper Ed Wing Upper Ed Wing Upper Ed Wing Upper Ed Wing Upper Ed Wing From Upper Ed Wing Club Name Check In Opening Ceremony Counsel Time Handbook Time Game Time Closing Ceremony Sparks 6:15-6:30 PM 6:30-6:40 PM 6:40-7:05 PM 7:05-7:30 PM 7:30 7:55 PM 8:00-8:15 PM Main Foyer Sanctuary Lower Ed Wing Lower Ed Wing Gymnasium Sanctuary Dismissal Club Name Check In Opening Ceremony Counsel Time Game Time Handbook Time Closing Ceremony Truth & Training 6:15-6:30 PM 6:30-6:40 PM 6:40-7:05 PM 7:05-7:30 PM 7:30 7:55 PM 8:00-8:15 PM Main Foyer Sanctuary Sanctuary Gymnasium Sanctuary Sanctuary Dismissal
