Tanning range
Tanning Skin colour, which is dependent on the type and amount of Melanin present along with the number of active Melanocytes, is an important attribute of beauty. Asian cultures associate lighter and more even complexions with higher social status, compared to Western cultures for whom a tanned complexion is associated with a healthy glow. Sadly there is no such thing as tanning safely in the sun. With growing consumer awareness of the damaging effects of the sun, the sunless tanning market is booming. The most popular method is by applying products containing DHA topically. The skin initiates a non-enzymatic Maillard (browning) reaction between the DHA and the commonly found Amino acids in the skin, namely Lysine, Glycine and Histadine. A brown complex known as Melanoidins is then formed. Spray tanning and home self-tanning creams and lotions remain the most popular. That said, there is also a growing market for tanning pills or the injectable peptide Melanotan, but these methods are not recommended and will not be covered in this document. We can separate this market category into three sections; exfoliation to prepare the skin, tanning and finally moisturisation to preserve the tan for as long as possible.
Exfoliation A.H.A. EXTRACT 44 GLYCERIN (INCI: Aqua, Glycerin, Citric Acid, Lactic Acid, Glycolic Acid, Malic Acid, Tartaric Acid, Citrus Medica Limonum Extract, Pyrus Malus Extract, Saccharum Officinarum Extract, Vaccinium Myrtillus Extract, Vitis Vinifera Extract) is a mix of fresh fruit extracts (Lemon, Bilberry, Apple, Sugar cane and Grape) with a complementary blend of alpha-hydroxyacids (Citric, Lactic, Glycolic and Tartaric), also called fruit acids. It is a standardised extract of 44% AHAs in water and vegetable glycerin with no preservatives. AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids) have been shown to improve the appearance of the skin by enhancing smoothness, luminosity and tone, as well as demonstrating exfoliating and moisturising activity. On penetrating the Stratum corneum, AHAs initially diminish corneocyte cohesion, readily detectable by desquamation. AHAs also reduce sebum secretion and deliver better moisturisation to the skin. Recommended usage level: 2-8% BAMBOO FIBRES POWDER (INCI: Bambusa Arundinacea Stem Extract) is a micronised and standardised powder of Bamboo (Bambusa vulgaris) fibres. It is a very soft and natural scrub agent to provide smooth and fresh skin. It is compatible with all cosmetic formulations. The BAMBOO FIBRES POWDER is especially recommended for delicate and sensitive skin types. When incorporated into a cleansing or massaging product, it has the ability to gently stimulate the micro circulation by its mechanical and physical action on the skin. Its controlled particle size around 60 µm ensures consistent performance. Recommended usage level: 5-10% CITRUS EXFOLIATING POWDER (INCI: Citrus Aurantium Dulcis Peel Powder, Citrus Grandis Peel Powder, Citrus Medica Limonum Peel Powder) is a natural scrub agent with large particles produced from the solid part of citrus fruits (Orange, Lemon and Grapefruit). Compatible with all cosmetic formulations, CITRUS EXFOLIATING POWDER is recommended for body scrubs across all skin types and can be used in liquids, gels, as a cake or in soap bars. When incorporated into a body cleansing product, it stimulates the micro circulation by its mechanical and physical action on the skin. It also removes the dry and dead skin cells to reveal more radiant skin, whilst accelerating skin metabolism. Its natural colour and pleasant odour make the CITRUS EXFOLIATING POWDER suitable for the highest quality products while its controlled particle size ensures consistent performance. COTTON POWDER (INCI: Cellulose) is a micronised and standardised powder of pure cellulose made from Cotton (Gossypium herbaceum) fibres. This natural, soft exfoliating powder smoothes and freshens the skin. Compatible with all cosmetic formulations, COTTON POWDER is especially recommended for delicate and sensitive skin types. When incorporated into a cleansing or massaging products, it gently stimulates the micro circulation by its mechanical and physical action on the skin. It also gently removes the old horny layer (skin waste) whilst accelerating the skin metabolism. Its controlled particle size of around 60 µm ensures consistent performance. Recommended usage level: 5 10% ENN ACTIVE PAPAYA (INCI: Maltodextrin, Carica Papaya Fruit Extract) is a water-soluble concentrated powder extract of Papaya (Carica papaya) fruits, containing a minimum of 5% Papain enzyme, a proteolytic enzyme with cleansing and keratolytic properties. ENN ACTIVE PAPAYA can be used as a natural cleansing agent. Recommended use level: 0.5-3%
Tanning Melitane (INCI: Glycerin (and) Water (and) Dextran (and) Acetyl Hexapeptide-1) is a peptide agonist of the α-msh (α-melanocyte stimulating hormone). Because of its affinity with the receptor MC1-R, Melitane can be used as a natural photoprotector and as an inflammation modulator. Melitane stimulates pigmentation and Melanin (natural protection factor) under UV-inducing conditions. Melitane complements the skin s own level of natural Melanin and strengthens the skin s defence. In addition, Melitane makes the skin less sensitive to UV-induced erythema. Recommended use level: Tanning effect: 0.5-5%; Soothing effect: 1-5%; Protective effect: 1-2.5%; DNA protection and repair: 0.5% SalSphere Sunkiss (INCI: Water, Dihydroxyacetone, Glyceryl Stearate, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter) Fruit, Hydroxyethyl Behenamidopropyl Dimonium Chloride, Behenyl Alcohol, Polyquaternium-67, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin). SalSphere Sunkiss is a technology designed to generate an even and long-lasting sunless tan. This slow release technology combines DHA (Dihydroxyacetone) with other ingredients to enhance performance. Avenna MP25 (INCI: Avena Sativa Meal Extract) harnesses the powerful benefits of Oat (Avena sativa) extract containing 21-25% Beta-glucan, a material that has structural similarities with Hyaluronic acid. This material is widely used for building high viscosity as well as a moisturiser for imparting smoothness to the skin and hair. These polysaccharides have been found to be moisturising and wound-healing ingredients that can also stimulate Collagen and Elastin production. Avenna MP25 is a source of many other cosmetically beneficial components such as Proteins, 17 free Amino acids, Essential Fatty Acids, minerals and six vitamins: the material is therefore a powerful anti-oxidant and a skin normalising ingredient. Recommended use level: 0.5 10% Exo-H INCI: Butylene Glycol (and) Alteromonas Ferment Filtrate).
