Focus on activity: reported speech Target audience (age): young adults, adults Lesson links: English ID 3 B, Unit 7; The Big Picture B2 Upper Intermediate, Unit 12 Aim: practicing reported speech using tell and say Duration: 20-30 minutes Organization: individual, pair and group work Material: worksheets, internet access Preparation: have worksheets ready, watch the video Blended Official Trailer (2 25 ) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8muwt2x59fo (accessed on 7/17/2014). Procedure: Ask students to watch the video trailer for Blended and identify the characters that match the sentences. Play it two or three times. Divide students in pairs and ask them to rewrite the sentences in task 1 using say and tell. Correct the task. Ask the students in pairs to cover part of the interview: one should report Andy Warhol s questions and the other Dwayne Johnson s. After they finish, have them read the interview to check if the partner was correct. Wrap up: Ask students to write gossips about famous people on pieces of paper. Tell them to walk around the classroom, listen to their classmates, take notes about the gossips they heard and then report them to everybody. Walk around the classroom and praise your students. Provide vocabulary if necessary. Extra: Ask students to make a reported version of the interview and bring it the following class. Have students correct each other s report.

WARHOL: What s the craziest thing a fan has sent you? THE ROCK: Fans send me pictures of tattoos that they ve gotten of my face, a quote I ve said, or of my Polynesian tattoo. It s all love crazy love but it s still love and I ll take it. WARHOL: What kind of clothes do you like now? THE ROCK: I love a custom made suit that fits the body well enough to make livers quiver.
