RULES AND REGULATIONS RELEASE FORM: REQUIREMENTS: By entering NAHA, the entrant ensures that the photographer(s), make-up artist(s), models and other parties involved in the production of each entry have authorized the entry. All parties involved must sign the attached release form, even if the entrant enters online. Please ensure that any modeling agency you are working with has confirmed the release form and that the agent representative has signed off on the NAHA release form. For more information visit probeauty.org/naha. The NAHA release form MUST be signed. No other release form will be accepted. Failure to return signed release forms will disqualify your entire entry. All entrants will be credited when images are used. Entry is limited to licensed cosmetologists, barbers, make-up artists, salon owners and students/apprentices from the U.S., Canada and Mexico. Students/ Apprentices may only enter the Student Hairstylist of the Year category provided they are enrolled in cosmetology school or are performing required hours in a salon as of the entry due date. In all categories, except Men s Hairstylist of the Year, models may be male or female. IMAGE SPECIFICATIONS: All images must be submitted either online or on a disc (CD-R or CD-RW). DVD s are not accepted. All image files must be in JPEG (.jpg) format, at a resolution of at least 300 DPI. For online entries, image files must be 5 mbs or less. High resolution images may be requested if selected as a finalist. TIFFS, Bitmaps, PDFs, photographs and slides will not be accepted for final images. Images should be labled as the following: Entrant First Name_Last Name_Image1 Entrant First Name_Last Name_Image2 Entrant First Name_Last Name_Image3 PHOTO USAGE RULES: MULTIPLE ENTRIES: Images that have been used in other photographic hair competition programs in North America MAY NOT be entered into NAHA. You may use images from the same photo shoot, but the exact image must be unique. We discourage the same look and feel of images that are promoted by other contests. Any entries not adhering to this rule will be disqualified. Images used for commercial purposes (advertisements, posters, packaging, promotion, social media presence, etc.) before July 13, 2014 (date of NAHA 2014 Awards Ceremony) can hinder the blind judging process and will be disqualified. Although you may enter each category up to two times, no entrant can be a finalist in the same category more than once. You may enter the same collection of images into as many categories as you would like. You may also use the same model for a different entry in the same category or in another category, but you must enter a noticeably different image of the model in a different pose. Note: cropping, black and white or sepia tone, and reversing or flipping the image does not constitute a noticeably different image. *You may only submit images with the same look and feel into two categories. Please be sure that your images fit that category. *There is ONE exception to this rule: The exact same image submitted in a category may also be submitted in the Hairstylist of the Year category ONLY, except for Salon Team images, which may not be submitted for Hairstylist of the Year. 8 NAHA 2014

PHOTO MANIPULATION: NAHA is a photographic hairstyling competition that awards artists who create great hair that has been beautifully captured with photography. Due to the increased use of Photoshop and similar programs, NAHA has modified the rules for the usage of these programs. The use of Photoshop, and all other similar programs, in ALL hair categories may be used on the models face, skin, background and wardrobe. Photoshop may only be used on the hair for esthetic and refining purposes. (i.e. removing an errant hair) but it cannot be used to create, enhance or manipulate a look. While the use of hairpieces is allowed in certain categories, you cannot use Photoshop, or similar programs, to create hair either in part or in its entirety. The rules for the use of Photoshop, and all other similar programs, in the Make-Up Category are the same as for hair categories. Photoshop may only be used on the hair for esthetic and refining purposes. (i.e. removing an errant hair) but it cannot be used to create, enhance or manipulate a look. Photoshop may only be used on the face/skin of a model for esthetic and refining purposes (smoothing fine lines or removing blemishes). All hair/make-up categories will be required to provide an unedited image along with their final images. These images will be used for judging purposes only and will not be used for any other reasons or published. NAHA defines an unedited image as an image that has not been modified in any way. Unedited images can be a snapshot from the photo shoot or an image from your photographer that has yet to be edited, though it must be a similar/same angle of the model for comparison purposes and in digital format: Actual prints and polaroids will not be accepted. If your category rules require you to provide a before and after photo, you will still be required to provide unedited images for your final/after images. Please note: Even if you do not use any photo manipulation or computer editing for your final images, you are still required to submit unedited images. This may mean entering the same set of images for your final as well as your unedited, but we require each entry to have these images for verification. If you are entering online, you will be directed to upload your unedited images along with your other images. If you are mailing in your entry, you may include unedited images in electronic format on a separate disc or thumb drive. All images (whether uploaded online or mailed in via disc) must be labeled: Entrant First Name_Last Name_UNEDITEDImage1 Entrant First Name_Last Name_UNEDITEDImage2 Entrant First Name_Last Name_UNEDITEDImage3 Color manipulation of images is NOT permitted in any capacity in the Haircolor category. WIGS & EXTENSIONS: Please indicate on your entry form if full or partial wigs or hair extensions have been used. There is no penalty for such use, except in the Haircolor category where full wigs are not permitted. HAIRCOLOR BEFORE SHOTS: When submitting before shots for the Haircolor category, use a photograph taken of the model the day of service. Images must be uploaded in consecutive order as three (3) before and three (3) after. Please name before and after images as follows: Entrant First Name_Last Name_BEFOREImage1 Entrant First Name_Last Name_BEFOREImage2 Entrant First Name_Last Name_BEFOREImage3 Entrant First Name_Last Name_AFTERImage1 Entrant First Name_Last Name_AFTERImage2 Entrant First Name_Last Name_AFTERImage3 NAHA 2014 9

ENTRY DEADLINE: All mail-in entries must be postmarked and online entries completed by February 5, 2014. There are no exceptions. QUESTIONS: Visit probeauty.org/naha or contact us at 800.468.2274 (480.281.0424). JUDGING: The online judging process is confidential. Entries are assigned a code, which is logged into a master roster, held by the NAHA staff. For the judges, this creates a blind system of judging, making it impossible for them to know any names associated with any of the entries. The judging process is taken very seriously. In no way do we ever jeopardize the integrity of the process. A select panel of internationally renowned stylists and top beauty editors from consumer magazines judge the entries and choose the NAHA finalists and winners. Judges take into consideration the following: Concept or overall creative approach Art direction and composition Demonstration of skill in the execution of style, make-up and appropriate wardrobe Harmony between photographer s execution and stylist s creativity Appropriateness of image for concept Technical ability corresponding to category entered Amount of photo manipulation that was used to create the final look Continuity of all images within the entry Understanding of category entered All finalists will be notified by April 30, 2014. Finalists will be asked to provide a headshot by June 1, 2014. JUDGES TIPS: Do your homework, take charge and direct the process to create a unique feel and look for your signature work. Keep the main focus on the hair. For most categories, avoid full body shots unless relevant to your theme and artistic direction. Entering too many categories with the same look is likely to dilute your chances. Focus on the lighting. Dark lighting does not show off hair. Avant Garde is the category designed for more innovative and creative entries. Though creativity is key, this is NOT a fantasy category. Styling hair into objects is not the goal. Images should still be beautiful and ahead of the curve. Texture entries must exemplify your ability to work with textured hair. Avant garde and fantasy images will be disqualified. Overuse of props and accessories take focus away from the hair. Images that do not represent the industry in a positive and professional fashion or are not of professional quality will be disqualified. 12 NAHA 2014
