Higher National Unit Support Notes (cont) Runway and Editorial Hair and Make-up Skills Opportunities for e-assessment E-assessment may be appropriate for some assessments in this unit. By e-assessment we mean assessment which is supported by Information and Communication Technology (ICT), such as e-testing or the use of e-portfolios or social software. Centres which wish to use e-assessment must ensure that the national standard is applied to all learner evidence and that conditions of assessment as specified in the evidence requirements are met, regardless of the mode of gathering evidence. The most up-to-date guidance on the use of e-assessment to support SQA s qualifications is available at www.sqa.org.uk/e-assessment. Opportunities for developing Core and other essential skills This unit provides learners with the opportunity to develop the Core Skills, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) at SCQF level 5 and Problem Solving and SCQF level 5. If the learner uses ICT to assist with research, reviewing, planning and production of evidence for current runway and editorial make-up and hair trends, there may be opportunities to develop aspects of ICT at SCQF level 5 by demonstrating that they can use IT systems to process a range of information. Learners should be encouraged to use different software packages, carryout searches and produce high quality documents which include graphics in different formats. Problem Solving involves three distinct component activities Critical Thinking, Planning, Organising, and Review and Evaluation. Critical Thinking should be employed to interpret a brief or identified tasks within the unit, with Planning and Organisation required to set objectives, timelines and produce the finished make-up looks. Review and Evaluation will be developed as the learners apply products and techniques and refines the finished look prior to presentation of the finished product for assessment purposes. Learners should be encouraged to use two main communication skills (listening skills, verbal, communication skills) during interactions with models.
