Woodhey High School School Uniform Uniform is compulsory at Woodhey and we are proud of the smart appearance of the vast majority of our pupils, a fact that is regularly referred to by visitors to the school. As we take children from more than 30 primary schools, our expectations may be different to those experienced at your previous school. Amongst other things, a school uniform helps in: upholding discipline; contributing to the ethos of the school; Setting an appropriate tone; providing clarity; reducing cost; showing membership of a community. A full uniform list and a labelled diagram are included with this prospectus. Regulations about footwear also appear on the list. Trousers should be the styles specified on the uniform list. In particular, please be careful with girls trousers fashions can vary, but expectations in school remain the same. (See FAQ, school website). Parents are strongly urged to ensure that all their child s clothing and valuable property are clearly named. We would respectfully ask parents to support us by noting that the following are NOT part of our school uniform and should NOT be worn by pupils in school or on the way to and from school: Non-regulation sweatshirts/hoodies Multi-coloured outdoor coats Baseball caps/hats Make-up, including nail varnish/gel Denim jackets Jewellery (apart from a wristwatch) Parents are strongly advised not to have their children s ears pierced during term time or breaks other than summer, as the wearing of earrings/studs is not allowed. Similarly, studs in the tongue, nose, or other parts of the face (or visible on the body) are not acceptable. The staff reserve the right to confiscate jewellery from pupils who break the rules: confiscated jewellery is safely stored in school, and can be reclaimed at the end of the following week.

Woodhey High School School Uniform cont/d Woodhey determines the following as being inappropriate hairstyles for our school: - Hair of an unnatural colour; - Hair of two or more noticeably different colours; - Hair of noticeably differing lengths; - Hair around the back and sides which is not the same length; - Hair on the top of your head which is significantly different in length to the hair around the back and sides. - Hair shorter than a number 3. - Hair with cuts or lines cut into the hair. - Long hair which hangs over the face or over the eyes (girls or boys). Pupils with inappropriate hairstyles will not return to class until the issue has been rectified. We firmly believe that high expectations in uniform and behaviour are intrinsically linked to high academic standards. We encourage pupils to show their individuality by the way in which they behave, the way in which they deal with other people and the choices that they make. There is a variety of information, including a number of Frequently Asked Question, relating to uniform on the school website. We thank parents for their support in helping us maintain the high standard of uniform at Woodhey.
