NZ FASHION TECH OVERVIEW Designer // Graduate Natalia Donald Established in 1995, NZ Fashion Tech is an award winning fashion and garment technology college, and New Zealand s leading educator in commercial fashion design. By keeping up to date on changes within the fashion indusry, NZ Fashion Tech continues to provide the optimum learning environment with varied, wellconstructed learning opportunities. Each year we have high numbers of successful employment placements within the fashion industry over 70% in 2016/17 with many graduates in skilled positions as design, production and merchandise assistants or other areas of production management and commercial fashion design. Real world outcomes ensure our graduate skills are aligned with industry requirements we have a great team of high quality professional trainers and support staff, and the ability to assist students get skilled and industry ready, and begin their career in the fashion industry. REGISTRATION AND ACCREDITATION NZ Fashion Tech is registered and accredited with NZQA. In 2017, we participated in an External Evaluation and Review (EER) and were awarded the highest possible status of Category 1 for the third consecutive time, with exceptional ratings of Excellent across all areas of educational performance and self-assessment. RESENE COLOUR OF FASHION GRADUATE JEROME TAYLOR - NOT FOR YOU CLOTHING I wouldn t be where I am today if it weren t for NZ Fashion Tech Designers // Olivia Dunn, Brooke Neary, Kaylee Powell, Youhan Khosho, Jennifer Samsudin, Susan Colton NZ Fashion Tech partner with Resene in a sensational Colour of Fashion collaboration. This exciting project takes the Diploma students out of the classroom and into an edgy, contemporary world of colour and design to bring Resene s latest fashion colours to life, giving them real international and commercial experience. Up to sixteen show-stopping designs open the NZ Fashion Week Resene Designer Runway Shows, and others feature in the August issue of NEXT magazine. Thank you to Resene for their continued support. CERTIFICATE IN FASHION TECHNOLOGY (LEVEL 3) Designer // Graduate Samuel Peniata OVERVIEW This entry level programme teaches practical, hands-on, technical skills used to construct full garments. Become familiar with industrial machinery, techniques and terminology necessary for fashion garment construction, and be introduced to fabric technology and patternmaking. Learn to use industry specific construction methods such as collars, pockets, plackets, zips, facings and more to make a range of full garments including skirts, shirts and trousers. Gain New Zealand qualifications and start your journey into the world of commercial fashion design. CERTIFICATE IN PATTERN DESIGN (LEVEL 4) Designer // Graduate Kaylee Powell OVERVIEW Study body measurement, create blocks for men, women and children, and learn to make, adapt, test fit and grade a range of patterns for outerwear garments. Broaden your understanding of the terminology and techniques used in fashion garment production and gain New Zealand qualifications. Extend your fabric knowledge and learn basic computer tasks for garment production, and continue your journey into the realm of commercial fashion design. DIPLOMA IN FASHION TECHNOLOGY (LEVEL 5) Designer // Graduate Ace Espino OVERVIEW The Diploma pulls together the skills and knowledge of the two Certificate programmes and takes it to another level. You will use and refine advanced technical skills in patternmaking, fit, garment construction and production to create lingerie, swimwear and tailored garments. Use CAD and pattern aided design (PAD) to make, digitise and grade patterns, and learn to create digital drawings and storyboards. Gain New Zealand qualifications and extend your knowledge of textile technology and garment manufacturing. Commercial fashion design comes to life in exciting design projects, and you will design and make your own mini range for an end of year runway showcase. HIGHER STUDY AND EMPLOYMENT PATHWAY CHART NZ Fashion Tech has an established partnership with Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design that will allow you to transfer into their Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) after completing your second or third year of study with us. Our second year (Level 4) programme allows you to transfer into the first year of the BFA, while successful completion of our Diploma will mean the possibility of transferring into the second year of the BFA.
