IMPORTANT YOU are responsible for the SAFE operation and maintenance of your Valmetal vertical Mixer. YOU must ensure that you and anyone else who is going to operate, maintain or work around the machine be familiar with the operating and maintenance procedures and related SAFETY information contained in this manual. Remember, YOU are the key to safety. Good safety practices not only protect you but also the people around you. Make these practices a working part of your safety program. Be certain that EVE- RYONE operating this equipment is familiar with the recommended operating and maintenance procedures and follows all the safety precautions. Most accidents can be prevented. Do not risk injury or death by ignoring good safety practices. Mixer owners must give operating instructions to operators or employees before allowing them to operate the machine, and at least annually thereafter per OSHA regulation 1928.57. The most important safety device on this equipment is a SAFE operator. It is the operator's responsibility to read and understand ALL Safety and Operating instructions in the manual and to follow these. All accidents can be avoided. A person who has not read and understood all operating and safety instructions is not qualified to operate the machine. An untrained operator exposes himself and bystanders to possible serious injury or death. Do not modify the equipment in any way. Unauthorized modification may impair the function and/or safety and could affect the Iife of the machine. Think SAFETY! Work SAFELY! 2.1 SAFETY AT INSTALLATION ATTENTION! Call upon a qualified electrician to connect your HAMMER MILL. It is very important to interconnect the safety micro-switch on the door to the magnetic starter on the motor in such a way that the motor can only start when the door is closed. 2.2 GENERAL SAFETY 1. Read and understand the Operator's Manual and all safety signs before operating, maintaining, repairing, adjusting, unblocking, filling or disconnecting the HAMMER MILL. 2. Children should not be permitted in areas where machinery of this nature is operating. Switches should be locked when unit is not in use. 3. If this mill is fed by an auger or discharges into an auger, be sure auger is covered, and that shields are provided between equipment discharge and auger. 4. DANGER: Keep hands and feet out of hoppers and openings. NEVER use your hand or foot to dislodge obstructions or to push down grain or snow that may be bridged in hopper or outlets. 5. Do not poke or prod material into the mill with a bar or stick inserted through the openings while in operation. 6. Never adjust or service the unit while in operation. Keep the machine in good repair. Good maintenance is your responsibility. A poorly maintained machine is an invitation for trouble. Always use proper tools when servicing machine, making certain that they are removed from unit when service has been completed. 7. Never sit or stand on this machine. 8. Always lock out all power sources prior to adjusting or servicing the unit. 9. This Mill is equipped with shielding to protect the operator from injury. These shields can be easily removed for servicing of the unit; but should ALWAYS be replaced after the unit has been serviced. Make sure all safety shields are in place and securely fastened before start-up of the HAMMER MILL. 10. Review safety related items annually with all personnel who will be operating or maintaining the HAMMER MILL. 11. IMPORTANT! Never modify, remove or unplug the safety micro-switch on the door. It prevents the motor from starting up when the door is open. Serious injury and even death could result if this warning is not followed. The hammers are sharp rods turning at high speed. 12. Always keep hands and clothing clear of moving parts. Do 13C50-0093 - Hammer Mill - May 2013 7

not wear loose-fitting clothing which may catch in moving parts. 13. Never put your hand under the auger or at the auger extremities when the motor is running. 14. Do not insert anything else but grain into the HAMMER MILL. Inserting anything else but grain in the machine may cause it to break down and may cause serious injuries. 15. Have a first aid kit available for use should the need arise and know how to use it. 16. Have a fire extinguisher available for use should the need arise and know how to use it. 2.3 MAINTENANCE SAFETY 1. Follow ALL the operating, maintenance and safety information in the manual. 2. Follow good Shop Practices: Keep service area clean and dry. Be sure electrical outlets and tools are properly grounded. Use adequate light for the job at hand. 3. Keep hands, feet, hair and clothing away from moving parts. 4. Never wear ill-fitting, baggy or frayed clothing when working around or on any of the drive system components. 5. Clear the area of bystanders, especially small children, when carrying out any maintenance and repairs or making any adjustments. 6. Do not adjust Mill when the motor is running. 7. Always lock out all power sources prior to adjusting or servicing the unit. Align the decal over the specified area and carefully press the small portion with the exposed sticky backing in place. Slowly peel back the remaining paper and carefully smooth the remaining portion of the decal in place. Small air pockets can be pierced with a pin and smoothed out using the piece of decal backing paper. 2.5 SIGN-OFF FORM Valmetal follows the general Safety Standards specified by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Anyone who will be operating and/or maintaining the Hammer Mill must read and clearly understand ALL Safety, Operating and Maintenance information presented in this manual. Do not operate or allow anyone else to operate this equipment until such information has been reviewed. Annually review this information before the season start-up. Make these periodic reviews of SAFETY and OPERATION a standard practice for all of your equipment. We feel that an untrained operator is unqualified to operate this machine. A sign-off sheet is provided for your record keeping to show that all personnel who will be working with the equipment have read and understand the information in the Operator's Manual and have been instructed in the operation of the equipment. 2.4 SAFETY DECALS 1. Keep safety decals and signs clean and legible at all times. 2. Replace safety decals and signs that are missing or have become illegible. 3. Inserting anything else but grain in the machine may cause it to break down and may cause serious injuries. 6. Never modify, remove or unplug the safety switch located on the access door of the HAMMER MILL. This could result in serious injuries or even death. The hammers are sharp knives turning at high speed. 4.1 TO THE NEW OPERATOR OR OWNER. Valmetal HAMMER MILLS are designed to efficiently mill grain in great quantity and to convey it to destination. It is the responsibility of the owner or operator to read this manual and to train all other operators before they start working with the machine. Follow all safety instructions exactly. Safety is everyone's business. By following recommended procedures, a safe working environment is provided for the operator, bystanders and the area around the worksite. Untrained operators are not qualified to operate the machine. Many features incorporated into this machine are the result of suggestions made by customers like you. Read this manual carefully to learn how to operate the machine safely and how to set it to provide maximum efficiency. By following the operating instructions in conjunction with a good maintenance program, your HAMMER MILL will provide many years of trouble-free service 4.2 BREAK-IN Although there are no operational restrictions on the machine when used for the first time, it is recommended that the following mechanical items be checked: Before starting: Read and understand well the Operators' Manual and all safety decals. After operating for 1 hour: Check and tighten (if necessary) the three (3) hammer bolts to the proper torque. (See section 6) Check and tighten (if necessary) the bolts securing the motor. After operating for 10 hours: Follow the normal service schedule as defined in the Maintenance section. IMPORTANT Make sure all guards and protectors are well in place. Also make sure they work appropriately. Make sure the Hammer mill door is closed and locked. 4.3 OPERATION ADJUSTING THE FLOW HATCH: 1. Start Hammer mill motor. 2. Loosen the adjustment handle. 3. Slowly pull the flow hatch while making sure the normal motor amperage is not exceeded. Use an ammeter to check amperage. ATTENTION Always call upon a qualified electrician. IMPORTANT! A magnetic starter must be installed on the hammer motor. This starter must be wired to the safety switch on the door. 13C50-0093 - Hammer Mill - May 2013 13

SECTION 5 - SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE MAINTENANCE SAFETY 1. Always lock out power sources in such a manner that the motor cannot be started by anyone however remote from the area, prior to adjusting or servicing. 2. Keep hands, feet, hair and clothing away from moving parts. 3. Make sure that all shields and access doors are closed and secured before operating the Hammer Mill. 4. Be careful when working near the Hammer Mill. The hammers are sharp rods turning at high speed. Never modify, remove or disconnect the safety switch located on the access door. This could result in serious injuries or death. 5.1 SERVICE 5.1.1 - CHECK-UPS Belts Every 50 hours, verify and adjust (if necessary) the belt tension on the vertical unloading auger and the horizontal auger. Motor Bolts Verify and tighten (if necessary) the bolts which hold the motor in place 5.1.2 - HAMMERS Change the motor rotation or reverse hammers every 200 hours. See section 5.2 for instructions on how to reverse hammers. We strongly advise to install, by a qualified electrician, a reverse switch on the motor to facilitate the motor rotation change. 5.2 REPLACING THE HAMMERS The hammers must be replaced when the discharge rate is reduced substantially. Follow the steps below when reversing or replacing the hammers. DANGER! Lock out all power sources prior to replacing the hammers. Note: The HAMMERMILL hub is held in place on the shaft by an SD type conical hub such as the ones used on standard pulleys. 1. Open Mill door. 2. Clean the cavity in the center of the HAMMER MILL hub. You will see six (6) hexagonal bolt heads. 3. Unscrew these bolts. The three (3) short bolts serve only to protect the HAMMER MILL hub threads. The three other bolts are screwed into the SD conical hub. Screw the three (3) long bolts into the MILL hub (in the place where were located the three (3) short bolts). Tighten them progressively and evenly until the MILL hub detaches from the conical hub. Remove the hub and hammer assembly. 4. Loosen and remove the 3 bolts (3/8 ). It is important to replace these bolts by new ones when you are replacing the hammers. Insert the hammers and spacers, fasten the 3/8 bolts and finally re-install hub on the motor shaft while making sure the key is in place. 5. To re-install, follow the same procedure but in reverse. 6. Close the Mill door. 5.1.3 - CLEANING Inside Periodically clean the inside of the machine when using high-moisture corn. Magnet Clean magnet located inside the hopper or door. 14 13C50-0093 - Hammer Mill 12-1215 - May 2013

SAFETY SECTION 2 SAFETY SAFETY ALERT SYMBOL This Safety Alert symbol means ATTENTION! BECOME ALERT! YOUR SAFETY IS INVOLVED! The Safety Alert symbol identifies important safety messages on the Valmetal HAMMER MILL and in the manual. When you see this symbol, be alert to the possibility of personal injury or death. Follow the instructions in the safety message. Why is SAFETY important to you? 3 Big Reasons Accidents Disable and Kill Accidents Cost Accidents Can be avoided Note the use of the signal words DANGER, WARNING and CAUTION with the safety messages. The appropriate signal word for each message has been selected using the following guide-lines: SIGNAL WORDS: DANGER - CAUTION - WARNING - An immediate and specific hazard which WILL result in severe personal injury or death if the proper precautions are not taken. A specific hazard or unsafe practice which COULD result in severe personal injury or death if proper precautions are not taken. Unsafe practices which COULD result in personal injury if proper practices are not taken, or as a reminder of good safety practices. ATTENTION All guards, access doors and covers must be in place and securely fastened before operating any equipment. If parts are to be inspected, cleaned, observed, or general maintenance performed, the motor driving the part or components is to be locked out electrically in such a manner that it cannot be started by anyone, however remote from the area. 2 Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury or death.

SAFETY IMPORTANT! YOU are responsible for the SAFE operation and maintenance of your Valmetal HAMMER MILL. YOU must ensure that you and anyone else who is going to operate, maintain or work around the HAMMER MILL be familiar with the operating and maintenance procedures and related SAFETY information contained in this manual. This manual will take you step-by-step through your working day and alerts you to all good safety practices that should be adhered to while operating the HAMMER MILL. Remember, YOU are the key to safety. Good safety practices not only protect you but also the people around you. Make these practices a working part of your safety program. Be certain that EVERYONE operating this equipment is familiar with the recommended operating and maintenance procedures and follows all the safety precautions. Most accidents can be prevented. Do not risk injury or death by ignoring good safety practices. HAMMER MILL owners must give operating instructions to operators or employees before allowing them to operate the machine, and at least annually thereafter per OSHA regulation 1928.57. Unauthorized modification may impair the function and/or safety and could affect the Iife of the equipment. Think SAFETY! Work SAFELY! 2.1 SAFETY AT INSTALLATION AT INSTALLATION Call upon a qualified electrician to connect your HAMMER MILL. WARNING It is very important to interconnect the safety micro-switch on the door to the magnetic starter on the motor in such a way that the motor can only start when the door is closed. 3

SAFETY 2.2 GENERAL SAFETY AND OPERATING SAFETY 1.
