REPORT ON THE PARTICIPATION OF RUBBER BOARD IN THE RUBBER TECHNOLOGY EXPO AT BANGKOK, THAILAND Introduction Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Department of Commerce, Government of India vide F.No.11/22/2012-Plant C dated 5 th July, 2013 approved the participation of Rubber Board in the Rubber Technology Expo at Bangkok, Thailand from 12-15 March 2014. Accordingly Mr. Sunny Varghese, Joint Rubber Production Commissioner, Department of Rubber Production and Mrs. P. Sudha, Deputy Director (RIDT), Department of Training, Rubber Board had been deputed to Thailand for participation from 11-16 March 2014. The purpose of participation was to promote the export of natural from the country and introduce the brand Indian Natural Rubber with the quality logo in the international market. The Rubber Technology Expo is one of the major trade fairs in the Asian belt related to rubber which was held in Bangkok in concurrence with the Global Rubber, Latex & Tire Expo 2014(GRTE 2014) and thus was benefited by the participation of all stake holders related to rubber industry. The report of our participation and feedback from the fair is submitted for kind approval of the Ministry. Rubber Technology Expo 2014 The 2nd International Exhibition Global Rubber, Latex and Tire Expo 2014(GRTE2014) was held at Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre (BITEC), Bangkok, Thailand form 12-15 March 2014 in concurrence with the Rubber Technology Expo 2014, the Rubber Products World Expo 2014 and Bangkok

International Tire Expo 2014 at the same venue. The Expo was well arranged and professionally managed by M/s. TechnoBiz Communications Co., Ltd., Thailand. The exhibitors participated in the Expo were mainly tyre and non-tyre products manufacturers/dealers, machinery manufacturers/suppliers, synthetic rubbers/compounding additives manufacturers/dealers, chemical manufacturers/dealers, R& D institutions, publishers of rubber industry related journals, books etc. There were about 15 stalls from India supported by CAPEXIL for the promotion of rubber products. About 200 exhibitors from 15 countries, mainly from Asian belt, participated in the Expo. A show Directory giving the details of exhibitors were collected for reference. Stall of the Rubber Board, India The Expo was arranged at Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre(BITEC), Bangkok. Rubber Board had booked a stall of size 12 sq.m. for the presentation of exhibition materials. The stall No. allotted to Rubber Board was B-12 & 14. The fascia RUBBER BOARD INDIA was provided in front of our stall. All facilities like proper lighting, furniture, brochure rack, floor carpets, plasma TV with CD player etc were provided by the organizers as per our requirements intimated and booked earlier. The officers deputed reached Bangkok on 11.3.2014 and the stall allotted to Rubber Board was arranged on the same day with the following exhibition materials. Ten numbers of posters explaining India s potential to export different forms of Natural Rubber with specific focus on promotion of the quality logo under the brand Indian Natural Rubber at International level Brochures on Indian Natural Rubber detailing the importance of different marketable forms of Natural Rubber, its processing, quality control, specifications, selection, advantages etc

Samples of all grades of Ribbed Smoked Sheets (RSS) for exhibiting and cut pieces for distribution to visitors Samples of latex and field coagulum grades of Indian Standard Natural Rubber for exhibiting and cut pieces for distribution to the visitors Sample of Centrifuged latex BIS specification details of RSS(IS 15361), ISNR(IS 4588) & Centrifuged latex(is 5430) Booklet on list of Indian Exporters of Natural Rubber About the programme and the visitors to Rubber Board stall The Rubber Expo scheduled from 12-15 March 2014 at BITEC was opened officially at 10 AM on 12.3.14. On all days the Expo started at 10 AM and ended at 6 PM except for the last day on which the Show was opened only up to 5 PM. The organizers had distributed the Show Directory providing the details of all exhibitors profiles and details of the other three events arranged in concurrence. Also the floor plan and daily event details were distributed for ready reference by the organizers. All these were useful in identifying, locating and interacting with the exhibitors. On the first day Mr. Boonharn Ou-Udomying, Chairman-Rubber Based Industry Club, The federation of Thai Industries and Dr. Suchiva, Rubber Technology Research Centre, Faculty of Science, Mahindar University, Nakoru Pathom, Thailand visited our stall and had discussions on the Indian rubber scenario. Reasonably good number of people from different countries visited our stall on all the four days. The visitors to our stall were mainly manufacturers and traders of all types of tyres including solid and industrial tyres, tubes & other tyre related rubber products, beltings, ancillary items, machines, equipments, tools, chemicals, dealers of raw rubber Natural & Synthetic-, rubber chemicals, rubber products, academicians etc. Since this was an exclusive rubber show, natural rubber, the basic raw material for its manufacture was well known to the group. The visitors were mainly from Thailand, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Pakistan etc. Technical

and purchase personnel from tyre industries, traders of natural rubber, dealers of NR & SR, manufacturers/dealers of non-tyre items, dealers of synthetic rubbers, reclaimed rubber, plastics & chemicals etc were also there in the visitors group. Detailed interactions were made with the visitors wherever needed, clarified all the technical/market related queries raised by them especially quality related questions and collected feed back in genuine cases with full contact details. The exhibitorsmanufacturers and traders of tyres and ancillary items- also visited our stall and collected details. The quality assurance of the brand Indian Natural Rubber and benefit of the quality logo was explained to all. Most of the enquiries were for dry forms of Natural Rubber like RSS and ISNR. The visitors to our stall were well aware of the quality status, price etc of the major natural rubber producing countries. The quality of the exhibited grades was well appreciated by all the visitors to our stall. Samples were taken by the visitors and few of them were very curious about knowing the process details and machinery for making good quality sheet rubber equivalent to the exhibited samples. There was good response for our RSS and ISNR. The exporters directory was distributed in genuine cases. The exhibition catalogue circulated by the organizers would be much helpful to us in future as it contains full contact details and business background of each exhibitor. We can directly contact the tyre manufacturers, if required. We could utilize the lean time to visit their stalls and to collect technical information, catalogues etc on various processes/machinery/equipments used in rubber product manufacture which were very informative towards updation of the rubber industry and can be shared to our clients in India. The Indian exhibitors also visited our stall and had interaction with them to know about their business. The feedback collected from some of the important visitors of the exhibition who have shown genuine interest in Indian Natural Rubber is summarized in Annexure I and some of the photographs of our stall and live discussions with the visitors to the

stall are provided in Annexure II. Those who were specifically interested in our product were encouraged to provide their contact details in the visitors book. The posters, RSS samples and video shown were appreciated by many of the visitors to our stall. All the enquiries were compiled with full contact details and were given to the Market Promotion Department of Rubber Board for further follow up action in this regard. The participation in the Expo was useful in introducing Indian Natural Rubber with the quality logo in the international market. Conclusions and recommendations Since the Expo was an exclusive Rubber Technology Show, most of the group- exhibitors and visitors- were well aware of Natural Rubber, the basic raw material for tyre production, its availability, quality and commercial aspects. Most of the enquiries were for dry forms of Natural Rubber- RSS & ISNR and the quantum requirement is nominally high. Participation in the Expo was very much benefited to introduce our rubber in the International market and also to create awareness on India s potential to export Natural Rubber. Introduction of the brand Indian Natural Rubber, the first country to introduce the brand at international level. Enquiries were there from all sectors of the tyre and non-tyre viz manufacturers, master-batch compound suppliers, traders of tyres & raw rubber etc. The quality of various grades of NR especially RSS exhibited in our stall was well appreciated by many of the visitors. However, for materializing the above enquiries commercial terms should be mutually agreeable; the fluctuations in national & international price are highly influencing the transactions.

Besides the enquiries received from dealers, we may contact the major tyre manufacturers directly, if required, for which the exhibition catalogue distributed by the organizer of the Expo will be useful. The exhibition was well organized and good participation was there from mainly the Asian countries. Since there were concurrent programmes in rubber technology related areas, could utilize the front towards technology updation and contact development. It is felt that participation in the Expo is highly beneficial in promoting export of Natural Rubber from our country. Therefore, in future also participation of Rubber Board in such Expos may be promoted. Acknowledgement We express our sincere thanks to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Govt. of India Rubber Board, India and Chairman, Rubber Board for deputing us to Thailand to participate in the Rubber Technology Expo 2014. We are also thankful to the Marketing Department of Rubber Board for coordinating all activities related to the successful participation of Rubber Board in the Expo. Sudha.
