ARETE 2013 School of Humanities Week (21-25 January 2013) Theme: La Vie Bohème Celebrating the ideals of truth, love, beauty and freedom, enabling us to see a world through eyes filled with wonder and with hearts that search for the good in all things. PROGRAM OF ACTIVITIES Monday, 21 January 2013 IGNIS: OPENING CEREMONY (4:30-6:00 P.M. @ The Ateneo Art Gallery Foyer) Organizers: Arete 2013 Core Team DESCRIPTION: Ignis (Latin for fire ), represented by candle light, sets off Arete week. It s a solemn beginning of a week-long celebration of passion, energy, and vigor in pursuit of excellence. This ceremony features the humanities departments, represented by their chairpersons, who will briefly share their departments /disciplines contribution to the humanities. The program is graced with song and dance performances by various student organizations. THEATRUM: AN INTERCULTURAL SHOW (6:00-7:30 P.M. @ The Ateneo Art Gallery Foyer ) Organizers: Department of Modern Languages & Ateneo Lingua Ars Cultura (ALAC) DESCRIPTION: Theatrum: An Intercultural Show is a night of cultural performances featuring Spanish, Indonesian, Korean, French, and German cultures, among others a way to celebrate the different languages and cultures of the world. Theatrum is sponsored by the Modern Languages Department with the help of their student arm, Ateneo Lingua Ars Cultura (ALAC).

(6:00-8:00 P.M. @ MVP Center for Student Leadership Roofdeck) Organizers: SOH Sanggunian (c/o Isabelle Gerundo & team) DESCRIPTION: This is an Arete favorite! The Silly People s Improv Theater or SPIT treats the Loyola Schools community to what they would call a series of short form improvisational theater games in one uninterrupted block of time approximately amounting to forty-five (45) minutes with extensive audience participation played for general comedic effect. Students and teachers alike share their talents in these fields. Performances range from poetry rendition to musical numbers by some student groups. These and much more are presented to celebrate love and enkindle passion for the performing arts. Thursday, 24 January 2013 SOH SCHOOL FAIR (9:00 A.M.-4:30 P.M. @ Red Brick Road Promenade) Organizers: SOH-Sanggunian DESCRIPTION: Fun and excitement await those who come to this our very first school fair! The fair features booths and games prepared by humanities organizations, with prizes for those who are up to the challenge. There are also bands and theatre groups performances. 4 LIT14 COSPLAY PARADE (4:30-6:30 P.M. @ Red Brick Road Promenade) Organizers: Department of English DESCRIPTION: This event highlights the Ateneo freshmen s creative interpretation of interesting literary characters. This year s theme of heroes and anti-heroes is guaranteed to captivate our students imagination in putting together a fantastic literary spectacle. Join us in celebrating literature through a parade of literary characters in cosplay. Friday, 25 January 2013 TRADERE: CULMINATING CELEBRATION (4:30-8:30 P.M. @ The Ateneo Art Gallery Foyer) Organizers: Arete 2013 Core Team DESCRIPTION: Tradere (Latin for to give over ) is the culminating celebration for Arete 2013. It begins with the passing on of light to students from candles lit during Ignis. There are performances by various arts groups while food and beverages is served for all to enjoy.
