Uniform Policy Rationale A uniform dress code reinforces in students a pride in their own appearance, instils recognition of themselves as an integral part of the school community, and assists in developing pride in representing their school. Issues of equality, health and safety, and expense are also factors that contribute to the establishment of the Dress Code. Aims To promote equality amongst all students. To further develop a sense of pride in, and identification with our school. To provide durable clothing that is cost effective and practical for our school environment. To maintain and enhance the positive image of the school in the community. Implementation: General The Dress Code applies during school hours, while travelling to and from school, and when students are on school excursions. Summer and winter uniforms, as well as sports uniforms will be prescribed, and are required to be worn. School Hats are to be worn as outlined in our Sunsmart Policy Gold or silver stud or sleeper earrings may be worn as well as a wristwatch: One pair of earrings in the bottom of their ear lobes. No other visible piercings are permitted. Studs may be plain gold or silver or have a small clear stone Hair Styles: o Extreme hair colours and/or hairstyles are not permitted by all students. o Primary Girls - where hair is longer than shoulder length it is to be tied back. o Secondary Girls - where hair is longer than shoulder length it is to be pulled back off the face. o Primary and Secondary boys - The shortest hair cut is to be a number 2. No mohawks or patterns in haircuts are permitted. Cosmetics o Primary School: clear nail polish o Secondary School: Years 7&8 - clear nail polish o Secondary School Years 9 to 12 - light makeup Shoes in Tech Area of School o Year 7-9 students covered school or sports shoe may be worn o Year 10-12 Black leather shoes must be worn in Metal & Wood classes Shoes must be polished, non-platform and not have a heel greater than 3 cm. Anklet socks are not permitted except if worn with sports uniform. Summer Uniform is worn Terms 1 & 4. Winter Uniform is worn Terms 2 & 3. At times throughout the year, due to the weather, there will be a period when either uniform may be worn.
All children are to wear their Sports Uniform on the nominated school sport days. For the primary school the nominated Sports Day is Thursday. In the secondary school the timetable varies based on the student s timetable. If a uniform item is not available to be worn on any one day, a note is to be written by a parent/guardian to the child s class or home group teacher. The school operates a Buy Back scheme for good quality second hand uniforms, and second hand uniforms are available from the Uniform Shop. Arrangements can be made to supply uniforms to families experiencing economic hardship. Parents seeking exemptions or alterations to the Dress Code due to religious beliefs, ethnic or cultural background, student disability, health condition or economic hardship must apply in writing to the Principal who will make decisions on a case-by-case basis. The Principal, in conjunction with the teaching staff, will be responsible for implementation of the Dress Code consistent with the student code of conduct. Second hand Uniforms Second hand uniforms may be bought and sold through the Uniform Shop. The Prescott College Southern Uniform Shop accepts second hand uniforms that are the current style, in good condition and have been recently cleaned ready for resale. Please place garments for resale in a bag marked Uniform Shop and ensure your name is attached. These can be left at Student Reception or the Uniform Shop. All second hand uniforms are sold on a consignment basis. The consignee authorises the shop to price and sell on their behalf. Any garment that is deemed not suitable for sale or stays on sale for longer than two years may be donated to charity. The school will keep 20% of the selling price to help cover the cost of operating the Uniform Shop. Money earned by parents through the sale of second hand items will be credited to the relevant fees account at the end of the term.
