DIY RFID Reader PART NO. 2171057 The DIY RFID reader allows you read any EM4100 compatible tags. The RFID reader needs to be energized with a regulated 5V DC voltage (you can use a 7805 voltage regulator, Jameco P/N: 51262). Once the reader is energized, it is ready to read the UID from the compatible EM4100 Tag (Card, key fob, etc). The reading distance is about 7 cm. So when the tag is placed into the reading distance, the reader gets the tag's UID and then transmits it through serial interface at 9600 bps, 8bits, No parity and 1 stop bit. This serial interface is TTL true level, that means high level is 5V and low level is 0V. Step 1 - Review the parts Prepare your work area and take a moment to be sure you have all the required parts Step 2 - Solder R1 and R2 Solder the resistors R1 and R2 to the board in the designated spot. These resistors are 560 ohms (Green, blue, brown). Step 3 - Solder R3 resistor Continue soldering the R3 to the board in the designated spot. This resistor is a 10 ohm resistor (Brown, black, black).

Step 4 - Solder R4 resistor Solder the R4 resistor to the board in the designated spot. It's a 100 Kohm resistor (Brown, black, yellow). Step 5 - Solder R5 resistor Solder R5 resistor to the board in the designated spot. It's a 10 Kohm resistor (Brown, black, orange). Step 6 - Solder R6 resistor.

It's a 22 Kohm resistor (Red, red, orange). Step 8 - Solder R8 resistor Solder R8 resistor to the board in the designated spot. It's a 270 ohm resistor (Red, violet, brown).

Step 9 - Solder R9 resistor Solder R9 resistor to the board in the designated spot. It's a 1 Kohm resistor (brown, black, red). Step 10 - Solder Resistor R10 Solder R10 resistor to the board in the designated spot. It's a 100 Kohm resistor (Brown, black, yellow). Step 11 - Solder R11 resistor

Solder R11 resistor to the board in the designated spot. It's a 10 Kohm resistor. (Brown, black, orange). Step 12 - Solder the D1 Solder the D1 diode to the board in the designated spot. Watch the polarity! Step 13 - Solder the LM358 Solder the LM358 to the board in the designated spot IC2. Watch the position of the notch!

Step 14 - Solder the socket Solder the socket to the board in the designated spot IC1. Watch the position of the notch! Step 15 - Solder the 220pF capacitor This capacitor is label with 220. Solder this capacitor to the board in the designated spot C3. Step 16 - Solder the 0.1uF capacitors

These capacitors are label with 104. Solder these capacitor to the board in the designated spots C2, C6, C8 and C10. Step 17 - Solder the 0.001uF capacitors Solder the 0.001uF capacitors to the board in the designated spots C5, C7 and C9. These capacitors are label with 102. Step 18 - Solder the transistors Solder the transistors 2N3904 and 2N3906 to the board in the designated spots Q1 and Q2 respectively. Solder the Q1 (2N3904) first and then Q2 (2N3906).

Step 19 - Solder the header Solder the 3-pin male header to the circuit board such that it is pointing down from the underside of the board. This header is designated in the spot J1. Step 20 - Solder the 3.3nF capacitor Solder the 3.3nF capacitor to the board in the designated spot C4. This capacitor is label with 332.

Step 21 - Solder the electrolytic capacitor Solder the 100uF electrolytic capacitor to the board in the designated spot C1. Watch the polarity! Step 22 - Insert the pre-programmed microcontroller Insert the microcontroller PIC12F683 into the IC1 socket such that notch in the chip lines up with the notch in the socket. Watch the position of the notch! Step 23 - Cut the leads Using the shearcutter, cut the leads on the bottom side of the board.

Step 24 - Wind the wire magnetic Wind 66 turns of wire magnetic on the plastic tube. Leave 5 cm leads. Step 25 - Take the coil (antenna) out Once done, take the coil out of the tube, very carefully. Step 26 - Hold the antenna

Take a small pieces of transparent tape or masking tape and wrap them on the coil to hold it as shown in the pictures. Step 27 - Remove the coat Using the small piece of sandpaper, remove the coat in the end of the antenna leads. Step 28 - Solder the 22 AWG wire to the antenna leads Solder the 2 pieces of 22 AWG wire to the leads of the antenna.

Step 29 - Insert heat shrink tube Insert the 2 pieces of heat shrink tube to the wires and cover the junction. Use the heat gun to shrink the tube. Step 30 - Solder the antenna to the board Solder the antenna to the board in the designated spot J2.
