KOFOTI also is actively operating a wide variety of support projects for enhancing the industry s competitive capabilities and profile in the global market, including research and development, marketing, and fostering smoother, more natural communication among companies. KOFOTI will continue to lead Korea s textile and fashion industry through strong leadership and innovative mind-set. 2 INDUSTRY STANDING The top-tier organization of over 6,100 textile companies (companies with over 10 employees) and 28 industry members FOUNDING GOALS Promote the modernization of the textile industry, enhance the global competitiveness of textile products, and contribute to the overall expansion of the national economy through the long-term development of the textile industry. (Preview in Shanghai is clothing and textile exhibition held in Shanghai) Preview in China aims to support the expansion of Korean textile and fashion brands into Chinese market, targeting the high-end Chinese market with high quality textiles. Korea s textile quality is acknowledged around the world, and the industry is forging ahead to become the world s 4th-largest fiber exporter and the 7th-largest apparel exporter by 2015. 18

The textile industry is one of Korea s largest employers with high production, employment and business ratios (10.3% of all companies, 7.1% of employment, 3.2% of production) The textile industry is one of Korea s strongest earners of foreign capital, with a surplus that consistently exceeded $10 billion from 1987 to 2002.
