Support Your Back as It Supports You..!! Of all the reasons to see a physiotherapist or an osteopath, the most common is for the lower back pain. Although there are 24 vertebrae in your spine: 7 cervical, 12 thoracic and 5 lumbar. The tailbone which connects the spine with the pelvis comprises of sacrum and the coccyx. As spine is responsible for structural foundation of the body, functional movements in all directions and protection of a very sensitive and important nerve tissue, spinal cord, it should be stable, strong and at the same time, flexible also. Lower Back is susceptible to injuries Of all the vertebrae, the ones in your lower back experience the greatest load and just like the trunk of a tree, it provides support to the whole body and thus requires a lot of attention. Postural Strain: In an upright position, it is the lower back curve which sets the spine in the right position in alignment with the rest of the body. Therefore, whenever conditions in the body threaten proper postural alignment like when there is excess weight at the stomach area or there is slumped upper back posture, the burden is passed on to the powerful muscles of the back. If they are put under an abnormal stress or strain for a longer period of time, this will contribute to muscle strain or spasm often leading to disc bulges, nerve impingement, joint injuries etc.
Disc Herniation: The Intervertebral discs (the space between two vertebra) have a cushioning material that allows the vertebra to hold a great degree of load. Although they are robust enough to bear this load but at the same time they are susceptible to bulge, tear or Herniation. Movements like bending and twisting at the same time are not recommended as it goes against the nature s design and thus exposes the soft tissue disc to a lot of unnecessary shearing forces. The result of such a compromise leads to injuries like distortion of the disc, inflammation and excruciating pain. If the damage is huge than it often causes the disc to lose its shape and alignment. Vertical Subluxations: It is the term used when the individual vertebrae are not aligned and functioning properly. This puts abnormal stress and strain on all of the pain-sensitive tissues. This condition requires an immediate intervention by the expert who can do adjustments and provide the necessary care. Banish Back-pain Back pain is a common side effect of a weak core. Building core strength will help bring balance to the front and back of your body. According to health experts sitting at a desk all day doesn t help, not being mindful of how we re sittingand not engaging our core, can lead to things like compressed discs in our spine, Whitney explains. She says many people make the mistake of sitting for long periods with a tilted pelvis and an arched back, rather than sitting tall on their "sit bones". Get a strong, confident posture
If your core is strong, you ll be hard pressed not to carry yourself with confidence. A tall, upright posture not only exudes strength but also gives the impression that the person is in control of his life. On the other hand, a slumped posture reflects a weak and defeated image. WANT TO HAVE A RICH MANE!? Hair comes in many different lengths, styles, colors, and textures. Yet just about everyone -- no matter what kind of hair they have -- falls prey to at least one hair problem at some point in life. Gray Hair Some people consider gray hair as something that makes them looked distinguished; for others, it's a reminder that they're getting older. However you feel about it, gray or white hair is pretty much inevitable with age. Hair gets its color from a pigment called melanin, which is produced by melanocyte cells in the hair follicles. It was discovered that melanocytes endure cumulative damage over the years, which eventually leaves them unable to produce melanin. Without melanin, the new hair that grows in has no pigment, which makes it appear gray, white, or silver. In some people graying starts at young age-- as early as their teens. Infact, the beginning of graying is usually determined by genes, so if your mother or father became gray early, you may, too. If you are one of those people who don't find gray hair distinguished, you can easily cover your gray with one of the many different hair dyes available. Hair Loss
Normally, hair goes through a regular growth cycle. During the anagen phase, which lasts two to six years or longer, the hair grows. During the The average person loses about 100 hairs each day. At the end of the telogen phase, the hair falls out and is replaced by new hair. As they age, men tend to lose the hair on top of their head, which eventually leaves a horseshoe-shaped ring of hair around the sides. This type of hair loss is called male-pattern baldness. It's caused by genes and it's fueled by the male hormone, testosterone. In female-pattern baldness, the hair loss is different -- it thins throughout the top of the scalp, leaving the hair in front intact. Greasy Hair A number of disorders that can cause the hair to fall out include: 1. Medications such as antidepressants, retinoids, NSAIDs, blood thinners, birth control pills and other hormonal treatments, high blood pressure medications, chemotherapy, and radiation. 2. This psychological disorder is called trichotillomania. 3. When hair loss is related to a medication, stopping the drug usually prevents further hair loss, and the hair will eventually grow back. 4. Hair also tends to grow back after most illnesses, radiation therapy, or chemotherapy. 5.
