1. School Facility and Services Location, Building Access and Hours: The exam is held in the Allied Health Sciences Building, 3500 Seawolf Drive, Suite 131. Parking: Parking is free during the WREB on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Parking will be enforced Monday Thursday. If you are parking during the week, do not park at a meter or use the pay and park. The Dental Programs can cancel a ticket received if the vehicle is in student/visitor parking but cannot cancel tickets received at meters. The UAA Dental Program is located in the Allied Health Sciences building (AHS). Suggested parking is in the South Parking Lot. Other parking lots close to the dental clinic are Short Building Lot and West Lot; all within 1-2 minutes walking time. Security and Emergency Services: University Police are adjacent to the Allied Health Sciences Building. In the event of an emergency please dial 6-1120 to reach the University Police. The emergency kit and portable oxygen are located at the front of the clinic, adjacent to the PANO room. A sign is located on the wall to indicate their location within the clinic. If an emergency arises: o The candidate must remain with the patient and call to the floor assistant for help. The floor assistant or chief examiner will notify the staff to call 9-1-1 The chief examiner will designate someone to go outside the main entrance to lead emergency responders to the location of the patient. Oxygen is administered, if appropriate. CPR is started, if appropriate. Emergency treatment is administered, if appropriate; e.g. sweetened juice or candy for insulin shock. All other candidates should leave the examination area with their patients until the emergency situation has ended unless otherwise directed by the chief examiner. University of Alaska Page 3 of 9

ATM Machine: There are various ATM machines on campus. Please refer to the Campus map for locations. Food Service Onsite: There are several on and off campus food service options. Refer to the Campus Map for areas to dine on campus. 1. Preparing for the Hygiene Exam Patient Screening: The dental hygiene clinic will not be available for non-uaa candidates to screen patients. The University of Alaska Anchorage will not provide patients for candidates taking the WREB exam. Radiographs: UAA utilizes digital radiographing, although film and all accessories are available for use during WREB if the need arises, i.e. tip breakage. Access to exposing radiographs will only be available during WREB upon the authorization by the dentist in the clinic. The UAA Clinic is not open to any candidate other than UAA students. All other candidates must have the patient FMX prior to sitting for the WREB exam. Administration of Local Anesthetic: The University of Alaska Anchorage will not provide a practitioner(s) from the school to administer local anesthesia to candidates patients. Equipment, Instruments and Expendable Dental Materials: Refer to the respective Candidate Guide for a list of materials and armamentarium that the Candidate must provide. A. Handpiece and Prophy Angle Hookups: UAA is equipped with a 4-tube connect for handpieces and prophy angles. All candidates must have a slow speed handpiece that is compatible with a 4-tube connect. A limited number of handpieces which use disposable prophy angles are available for use from the school. Reservations are made on a first come, first served basis. B. Sonic/Ultrasonic Devices: Ultrasonic instruments may be used for calculus removal. The Ultrasonic units use a 30 k Steri-mate that can be rented. Ultrasonic units and tips are reserved on a first come, first served basis. Deposits are required, as follows: Ultrasonic unit: $250.00 30K and sleeve: $250.00 High Speed handpiece $250.00 Slow speed handpiece: $250.00 Deposits will be returned after the exam, provided the items are returned in good, working order. Cash or checks only are accepted for deposit. Checks must be made payable to the order of UAA Dental Programs. C. Air/Water Syringe Tips: UAA provides free of charge disposable air/water syringe tips for all candidates. D. Blood Pressure Cuffs and Stethoscopes: UAA provides for candidates use blood pressure cuffs and stethoscopes free of charge. E. Expendable Materials: The following supplies will be provided by University of Alaska Anchorage for the WREB exam: Autoclave bags and tape Liquid soap Facial tissue Disposable patient bibs and clips Tray sleeves Headrest covers Barrier supplies Drinking cups Cotton applicators Prophy paste Disposable prophy angles Autoclave wrap 27-gauge long needles 30-gauge short needles HVE tips Face masks Gloves (non-latex) Disposable patient trays Tray covers Saliva ejectors Oral pre-rinse Topical anesthetic Local anesthetic 2x2 gauze Paper towels Surface disinfectant spray & wipes Disposable air/water tips Sterilization Services: Candidates must wear utility gloves and protective ANSI approved eyewear when handling instruments prior to sterilization. All instruments must be placed in cassettes prior to being placed in the ultrasonic. Cassettes must be labeled with candidate number prior to sterilization (do not use names). Candidates will have access to the sterilization area and may prepare their instruments for sterilization. The WREB assistants will complete the actual sterilization of all instruments. Candidate instruments will be available for pickup no later than Tuesday 12:00 noon, following the WREB exam. Candidates who do not wish to have instruments sterilized will be given a biohazard bag for transportation of the instruments from the UAA Dental Programs clinic. Instruments must be retrieved no later than 5 days after the end of the examining period. Any instruments left after this time frame will be forfeit. The University of Alaska Anchorage assumes no responsibility for instruments that are lost, stolen, broken or damaged during the WREB exam, including all items left for sterilization. Preparing for the Restorative Exam Equipment, Instruments and Expendable Dental Materials: Refer to the respective WREB Candidate Guide for a list of materials and armamentarium that the Candidate must provide. A. Air/Water Syringe Tips: UAA provides free of charge disposable air/water syringe tips for all candidates. C. Expendable Materials: The following supplies will be provided by University of Alaska Anchorage for the WREB exam: 2x2 gauze squares Disposable trays/covers Air syringe tips Paper towels Amalgamator Sanitizing materials Amalgam scrap container(s) Rod posts Barrier covers/tape Soap Cotton-tip applicators Surface disinfectant Face Masks Trash bags Gloves 4. During the Clinical Exam Infection Control (Surface Asepsis): Wear utility gloves and protective ANSI approved eyewear when using spray disinfectant. Remove obvious foreign matter with paper towels or 4x4 gauze before spraying. Sanitize the operatory before and after providing treatment to your patient. Wipe the delivery unit, operator s chair, brackets, lamp handles and counter tops with disinfectant that is provided. Let all the surfaces dry. Barrier surfaces involved in patient contact for the next candidate. Cover the delivery unit, ultrasonic unit, lamp handles/switches, and operatory stool levers, air/water syringe handles, suction hoses and handpieces with the barrier covers provided. Hazardous Waste Disposal (exam-type specific): o Hygiene: All barrier covers and all items used in the patient s mouth (disposables) must be placed into a plastic bag (example: put disposables into chair cover bag) and put into garbage receptacles. Any biohazard waste must be placed into a biohazard container (located in the sterilization room). Biohazard waste is considered any items saturated with blood and/or saliva (dripping). o Local Anesthesia: All barrier covers and all items used in the patient s mouth (disposables) must be placed into a plastic bag (example: put disposables into chair cover bag) and put into garbage receptacles. Any biohazard waste must be placed into a biohazard container (located in the sterilization room). Biohazard waste is considered any items saturated with blood and/or saliva (dripping). o Sharps Disposal: Do not bend or clip needles before they are placed in the sharps container. Needles and other sharps items must be placed in the sharps containers located on the pony walls throughout the clinic and in the sterilization room. University of Alaska Page 7 of 9

Emergency Medical Equipment: The emergency kit and portable oxygen are located at the front of the clinic, adjacent to the PANO room. A sign is located on the wall to indicate their location within the clinic. 5.
