MAKING A DIFFERENCE TO MOTHERS AND CHILDREN OUR NEW COLLECTION FEATURES THE BRIGHTLY COLOURED CARING BRACELETS EACH COLOUR NAMED AFTER A PERUVIAN MOTHER WHO WILL BENEFIT FROM THIS INNOVATIVE PROJECT. CHAVIN s mutual connexion with Peru is not limited to the companies and employees that extract our materials and craft our fine jewellery. We have partnered with the charity SOS Children to support its family strengthening programme in the community centre Luz y Vida in Lima, Peru. SOS Children is active in more than 120 countries and territories worldwide providing support for orphans and vulnerable children. Our work with SOS Children will be directed to individual families in the region of our manufacturing. CHAVIN will contribute to the development of SOS Children s community centre Luz y Vida. The family strengthening programme improves the economic situation of local families by giving training. It also provides help with dealing with family problems: women are taught how to tackle domestic violence, and SOS Children makes sure that they have access to basic knowledge that we take for granted in the Western world such as health topics like birth control. All of these issues are discussed in talks and role plays. Chavin is working with SOS Children s jewellery making course which is part of the project. The class teaches single mothers to create commercial costume jewellery out of plastic pearls and metal filaments to help them secure a small additional income to improve the quality of life for themselves and their children. www.soschildren.org 2 3

JULIA Julia, a mother of three, takes a leading roll at the Luz Y Vida family strengthening programme and has been an active participant since its start in 2006. She learned her skills to make jewellery at Luz Y Vida using plastic pearls and metal filaments and now sells it to secure a small additional income for her family. OTILIA Otilia is a mother of two and has been in the family-strengthening programme for 2 years. She has been actively involved in the program and from it has learned how to run a small fruit business which secures a steady additional income for her family. ANT-037 JULIA. VICTORIA Victoria is single mother with two beautiful twins, Avril and Becquer, 4 ½ years old. Victoria s participation in the SOS Children programme has given her the ability and confidence to earn money through the sale of winter clothing. CYNTHIA Cynthia is a mother of five and currently attends one of SOS Children s programmes in Peru. Cynthia works with the children of the programme within the development workshops. ELIZABETH Elizabeth has three children under the age of 2 years who are involved in the SOS Children Community Home, located in Collique, Lima Peru. It is here that Elizabeth teaches other mothers the skills to create commercial costume jewellery in the jewellery workshops. DIANA Diana is a single mother with a 2 year old little girl who attends one of SOS Children s child minding programmes. This gives Diana the ability to make a living by crafting and selling hand-made jewellery, a skill she learned at workshops within the SOS Children programme.
